Work health and safety is one of the most important legislative practice guidelines which each and every professional sector needs to abide by these legislations (Holt & Allen, 2015). As I have been given the opportunity to set up a work health and safety committee for the organization, I would be careful to ensure each of the legislation of work health and safety is taken into consideration while developing the policies. First and foremost, the employer will be the chairman of the work health and safety committee for the organization. The supervisors and the leaders will be the part of the monitoring committee to contribute to the policy making and monitoring adherence to the policies in the workplace. Representatives of different worker groups will also be a part of the committee to put forth their suggestion and grievances.
First and foremost, the resources that I will be accessing for the overview the data from is the Work health and safety website to avail the key work health and safety acts (Canada.ca, 2018). The elements highlighted in the overview will include Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Workplace injury and illness prevention, Workplace safety, Mental health in the workplace, Workplace hazards, Health and wellness in the workplace, Workers’ compensation, and Impairment and cannabis in the workplace. The Occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation will be summarized in the overview to highlight the basic legislative requirements for an organization, along with slight mentioning of the 14 jurisdictions (Laws-lois.justice.gc.ca, 2018). Lastly, care should be taken to ensure that the exact precautions for both the workers and employers is highlighted with equal weightage in the overview to have a sound work health and safety culture from the both employee’s and employer’s end.
