Discuss About The Relationships Suicide Attempts Drug Abuse.
The society and its people have a strange understanding and belief regarding the dominance of a sex over the other. The idea behind such a thought dates back to a mind set that is centuries old and suggests that the women are weaker than men. This is the primary thought that has been prevalent in the society for such a long time that people have kept practicing it throughout the ages. The treatment of a woman in the society has been an issue that has always bothered sensible people in the world (Fineman). Some men in the society have an attitude of sheer dominance over the females and the reason for such dominance is yet to be discovered. The basic idea of such supremacy of the male sex in the society is pointless and goes on to show that society and its people hold low regards when the topic comes to women and their rights.
Some woman in the world has been a victim of abuse in some or the other part of her life. In a world headed by patriarchal notions, a woman faces a sea of difficulties. The dominance of the male sex is so high that most females are not allowed to live the life they actually deserve to live. In case of relationships between the two sexes, it is seen that the male partner often looks forward to dominate the female and makes sure that it is his wishes that are fulfilled at the first place regardless of the emotional cost that is being paid by the partner (Department of Justice). The relationships are marked with dominance from one end and compliance from the other end and it has stayed as a characteristic feature of most of the relationships around the world. Women have been subject to abuse and misbehaviour from the male sex for a long time now and it is evident that the society is very ignorant to such a practice. Some women are being treated as mere objects that satisfy the male gaze and male ego, such an attitude towards the women has been further emphasized by the media. The use of women in the media has been done constantly in a negative light and it shows that women are mere objects that are attractive and can induce the behaviour of a person (Dittmar). The image that the media has created for the women is demeaning to the entire sex and has led to the creation of certain attitudes towards the women that further enhance the idea of women abuse.
Domestic violence is an issue that most of the women in the world suffer from it on a regular basis (Finley and Laura). The women are sufferers of this inhuman practice at the hands of their respective partner and this form of abuse has been age old in practice. The women are treated by their husbands as their property and made to bear the torture. The women are being beaten up by their partners and all of this just because the men feel they have owned all the rights to treat their wives in any way they wish. The male have this attitude as if the women are a commodity that they have brought and now she is his property and hence it completely depends on him that how she will be treated or not. The married life of a woman comes with various consequences as well as possibilities. The aspect of being beaten up by husband or being treated harshly by the family is consistent in the life of a woman after being married.
In a relationship, women invest themselves completely while in return they do not even half of their partner’s involvement. The attachment level of the females in a relationship is higher than that of the males. It is seen that in some of the Asiatic countries like Bangladesh, the women is treated in a poor manner by the entire family (Naved and Persson). The female considers the relationship as everything and devotes herself completely only to find that her husband is not even half involved and attached with her. The women are being treated badly due to the practice of “dowry” in such parts of the world. Dowry refers to a sum of money that a woman brings with herself for her husband at the time of marriage. The bigger the sum the better the status of the woman in the family and the situation worsens for women that bring less dowry money as they are often abused for this. When the age gap between the partners is huge, there is often a higher chance of violence toward the women. Such situation surrounds the women around the world and they are facing the issue of being abused.
The women at times are found hiding and shying away from disclosing the abuse they have encountered in life. The females tend to preserve their own dignity and the respect of the family and avoid discussing such issues in the public domain (Eisikovits, Tener and Lev-Wiesel). Women abuse is such an issue, which they feel if gets discussed in the public then people shall outcast that person from the society. The issue has been turning grave with every passing day and without much effort from anyone, the females are yet being in situations where they face abuse. It is estimated that as many “4.8 million women” are being abused every year (Friestad, Åse-Bente, and Kjelsberg). The level of such abuse can be so high that many a times the females who are abused lose their sense and becoming mentally sick for the rest of their life. The incidence of suicides among the females have also increased and it is seen that those who cannot bear the pain inflicted upon them, be it emotional or physical, resort to death in the end and give up on life (Wolford-Clevenger and Smith). The behavioural pattern of the women changes after they face such extremes of abuse (Walker). The numbers of crimes against the women are enormous and it is to be seen that justice hardly is achieved by them in their due course of life.
The recent days are marked with the concept of feminism with various groups and organizations fighting constantly against such issues of women abuse in the society (Rottenberg). The feminists have come down a long way down to assure that such misbehaviour towards the women is not tolerated and necessary steps are taken against the people who do such. The feminist movement such as the very recent #MeToo movement is one such movement that brings such issues of women abuse to the global front (Alone). In the #MeToo movement the women came forward and spilled details about all kinds of harassment that they had faced in their lives from a wide variety of males belonging to some very prestigious offices. The movement assured that the wrongs that are done against the females were to be answered and each of those involved in the process shall face the consequences from law and society. Not only the celebrities but common women also have come forward with their stories of abuse and this further led to the popularity and success of the movement.
The woman in the society needs to be respected and given an equal say alongside the males of the society. The practice of treating women in an abusive manner by the males has to be stopped. The prejudice that women are the weaker sex needs to be removed from the society completely (Kilmartin and Allison). It is essential that the people of the society have an equal vision for both the sexes. The practice of bias attitude leads to creation of differentiation between the two sexes. The men and women need to have an equal say in the society so that proper growth is assured for the females. It is often found that in various situations the females are prejudiced to be weaker than their male counterparts. Such a thought can be completely misleading and will result into deterioration of the situation of women in the society and hence will have reduced opportunity of growth for the women. The proponents of feminism need to come ahead and make sure that their message reaches out to the entire world. The derogatory practices against the women are a situation that remains the main motive of action of both the sexes. The society can only be termed as progressive when such practices and ideas regarding the women are removed from the society and the world turns into stage that provides equal measures for both the sexes. Woman abuse is a disgrace to the entire male population and hence it is their prime responsibility to make sure that such practices are not repeated and women are given their due share of freedom in living their lives.
