Person-Centered care is an old concept in the nursing practice field, but it has continued to very difficult to build in the healthcare. It is a requirement of all consumers to partner with the service providers in the care industry (ACSQH Annual Report 2015/2016). Person-centered care is defined as a philosophical approach to the service development as well as service delivery, and perceives service provision in a manner that holds respect, is responsive to the needs and values and preferences of the people as well as those who provide them with care.
There exist several models and theories that guide person-centered care. The reasons for the development of the methods and models is to meet the needs of specific concern surrounding as well as residential care setting and the environment of the hospital. In real life, some people create a sense of belonging by devaluing others hence this concept can be very technical to apply.
During the first working days, weeks or months as a registered nurse or as a graduate resilience must get tested. Communication between the nurse and the patient begins when they first meet and proceeds until the end of the therapeutic relationship. In the first days of the work, the graduate nurse finds it challenging to establish a therapeutic relationship with patients due to lack of practical communication skills. The Nursing and Midwifery Board in Australia requires that nurses must go through informal training and do a reflection of their experiences to perfect the future abilities of their career. It is indicated in the reflective and analytical care domain (Nursing and Midwifery Council 2017). It relates to the strength of the EN to make reflections on evidence-based practice. It gets done while ensuring essential knowledge and currency as well as skills to care for the personal, psychological, and physical needs for themselves and others (Nagle et al., 2015). New graduate nurses should use emotional intelligence to foster person-centered care by leaning the emotions of the patient and also controlling their feelings towards the sick person and those who surround them.
