The IT professionals in UK are facing the data complex protection problem as they deal with large amount of data growth in cycle and acutely reducing resources and budgets (Chen and Zhang 2014). A leader of open recovery and backup software Zmanda, recently surveyed analysts of leading storage to gather their views on top ten trends and challenges of data protection that company face in United Kingdom. Their logic on problems facing data protection is (Anstead 2017). The IT organizations in UK are facing an abundant change often disturbing the data protection technologies, policies and practices. This makes a problem in IT to keep a measure of all the data in an organization. Zmanda has introduced a solution of powerful back up with Sun’s inventive OpenSolaris OS that includes a file system ZFS in an advanced mode (Vroman, Arthanat and Lysack 2015). The server visualization collided with fundamentals of requiring evaluation, re-architecture of combination of processes and protection strategies of Zmanda had created the most advanced back up storage in the present market. The feature of snapshot in ZFS allows scalable and fast backup in today’s most difficult workloads.
The main two aspects that face a challenge of data storage in United Kingdom are discussed in the report with suitable examples. The two grounds that are in context are Visualization Management and the Cost of the software of backup and storage. Relative case studies are also given satisfying the challenges.
Visualization Management: To cope up with the Visualization Management of the government, the organizations require a dependable system for data recovery. The systems must include not only recovery of files but also Emails, data and messages that may be required afterwards by the FRCP (Federal Rule of Civil Procedure) for civil prosecution. The problem regarding data storage arises in UK because IT companies is increasing day by day, the growth of data is also increasing and growing of data in IT is directly proportional to the Data storage problem in UK (Law, Buhalis and Cobanoglu 2014). The problem of recovery or backup completion with particular given windows, management of data protection and also the cost of the storage system are increasing tremendously. The reliability or accuracy of recovery and backup are also challenged in the IT organizations (Jones et al. 2014). The matter of a company is to minimize and prevent the quantity of the time. The data is stored as well as protected by the IT managers. Doing more work with less cost is the main motive of every company (Stockwell and Fiks 2013). All managers of IT will look after that their work is done with less cost. The economic crash, attached with business environment prosecution makes the corporate data necessary to be available to other party attorneys and auditors.
Case study of Visualization Management: RHWL, an architectural practice in London, Unites Kingdom carried out double system of F5 Network ARV500 when the business was facing a storage problem in the organization (Allington 2013). The product of storage visualization gave permission to the company to recommend tired storage and achieving file to solve the problems on low capacity and also an amount of 243,000 Euros was saved in a year on its backup system.
RHWL ha three branches, one in UK, Germany and in Qatar approximately having 130 employees. It was reported that the files of Adobe Photoshop, CAD format and the InDesign of the company are having to be stored for many days before they are accessed (Grabara, Kolcun and Kot 2014). The company faced many difficulties in storing those big files for many days as they require a large amount of space. The company had two EMC storage network SANs at one of its main end and the other is the DR site of disaster recovery at the time of emergency. The director of RHWL Dave Allerton said that the storage network was only for a short period of time (Cresswell and Sheikh 2013). They needed a long term solution for this. Allerton also said that the company advised in expansion of the EMC arrays, but the cost was very high of getting 146GB at a 500 Euro (Li 2014). He also wanted to add RHWL’s channel of fibre estate for the reasons of administration.
The team of Allerton decided to allocate 50,000 Euro on two Network of F5 ARX500 file devices for visualization and some SATA storage capacity of HP (Hewlett Packard). The F5 network is attached to a network to transfer data from HP SANs and EMC to the servers visualizing it as a common pool (Gustafson et al. 2015). Data is also placed on different storage by the F5 network according to the pre-defined policies. The new data along with the data of previous six months are stored in EMC Fibre drive array channel. The second tier storage of the system is the HP Storage with sixty controllers along with six SATA drives of 1TB each.
Cost Management: Storing more amount of data or information with less or minimum cost is the main aspect of a company buying a storage device. Along with cost the protection of data should also be provided by the systems. The less the amount of money of a backup storage with more data protection and storage is more advantageous for the IT companies (Rogers and Marres 2016). Virtualization mainly changes the way a company manage the current crisis of economy and manage their data is increased. The storage and servers ate only visualized by a company, it is a disaster to make a recovery of those data and files (Chen and Zhang 2014). Usability- Smaller budgets and staffs for training are given to the IT managers by the company regarding the use of the data storage and protection systems (Anstead 2017). This will help The IT managers to the recovery easily and also back up a file or software with an ease. The time that is required to preserve some particular type of data is increased by the companies (Law, Buhalis and Cobanoglu 2014). This gives an extra burden to the IT managers associated with the backup of the storage and with retention of the devices and software to store safe and secure for several years. Increase of mobile workforce builds an extra burden for IT managers of backup administrators. There always remains an issue to give secure and trusted backup for the data and information (Stockwell and Fiks 2013). The managers who are managing the IT technologies will look after the fact to cut the cost of the backup and storage strategies (Allington-Jones 2013). The reduction of the cost comes as a big factor for the company with much amount of storage and data protection.
Case Study: TrafficBroker, an agency of internet advertising has carried out storage of tiered shared from 3PAR that has enabled the agency to cut short its purchase by an amount of 25% and slit administrative time (Tweney 2015). The TrafficBroker team got a list of suppliers and selected two vendors from the list, 3PAR and Compellent. The TrafficBroker selected 3PAR server as a visualization project amounting to 250,000 Euros.
TrafficBroker is online agency of London whose main apps for business are homegrown advertising search tool for keyword management, web servers, IOPS hungry and for reporting databases (Fulton 2013). The project of visualization server viewed seven servers along with DAS, direct attached storage deduced to three 16-core machines of Dell with server of 60 virtual servers.
The project was needed to support availability of high data and to meet the development of all new applications of the clients which is increasing tremendously in a span of one year (Rogers and Marres 2016). In order to lessen the demand to manage and buy disk in DAS and to back up the virtual environment, shared storage was introduced. TrafficBroker consists of SATA disks in various specific application servers, before the use of shared storage.
The product consists of an array of 3PAR InServ with one tier storage of 12 TB of 7200 rpm drives of SATA. Later it updated the storage to 24 TB in two tiers consisting of 15,000 rpm Channel of Fibre which enabled much more data storage with a reduction of cost (Fulton 2013). The two tiers consist of databases and production app in one tier and development and test and data of lower priority on the second tier (Gustafson et al. 2015).
Conclusion
There are number of problems related in selecting physical storage which increase the storage capacity of the disk. Selective decision should be taken keeping the cost of the device in mind and relatively size of the storage. The other problems that are face din UK regarding data storage are Compliance Management- To cope up with the governmental acquiescence requirements; a dependent reliable system for data recovery is needed by the company. The recovery systems must include not only file recovery, but also the email, messages and other data that satisfy the FRCP rule. Cloud Computing- The organization that are increasing are getting the profit of clouds. As, storage and increase number of application move to the cloud, an alternative way of protecting data is to be done by the IT managers.
