Many people are diagnosed with different Schizophrenia caused by various aspects of life and depend on the present environment of the patient. Since it has become a limelight to human nature of living treatment and managements are meant to be taken or made for the patient suffering from it recover, control it and live with it. There are several treatments given to the Schizophrenia individuals, and these comprise psychotherapy, support group, medication, hospitalization, peer support, self-help plan, and case management. Moreover, these treatments do not work for all individuals with these disorders, so the person is free to choose what treatment or combination of therapy or treatment that will work best for him or her.According to Mentalhelp.net,(2017), 1percent of the world population is diagnosed with Schizophrenia and approximately 3.2 million people are diagnosed with this disorder, and around 1.5 people will be diagnosed with this disease.
Individuals with this Schizophrenia disease or illness recover fast and achieve strength by getting support from a group of people or individual treatment. Several conditions are referred to as mental health disorders; the most common are a personality, anxiety, psychotic disorder, mood, eating, obsessive-compulsive, Post-traumatic stress and Impulse control and addiction disorders.
This paper will discuss the aspects of managing and treat a young person with schizophrenia and what are the issues related to the efficacy of medications for schizophrenia.
An aspect of Treating and Managing Treatment On Schizophrenia Patient.
Schizophrenia is an example of a mental health disorder it is a complicated, chronic mental health illness that is designated by the following symptoms, including delusions, hallucination, chaotic behavior and impaired cognitive ability. It is a most common Psychotic illness, and persons with this disorder can present with a diversity of manifestations. Psychosocial input, psychological and integration of medical are requirements on Schizophrenia treatment. Moreover, it is crucial not neglect the medical care of a person with Schizophrenia. Additionally there diseases that are prevalent to Schizophrenia and they include lung disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity, and an individual with one of the diseases does not receive adequate care for such conditions(Haddad, et, al,.2014).
Schizophrenia requires a long life treatment even if it symptoms has subsided. The treatments can be medication, and psychosocial therapy can help to manage all the conditions, and in some cases, hospitalization might be required.
It is the keystone of schizophrenia treatment are most commonly prescribed drugs. They control symptoms that affect the brain neurotransmitter. The goal of this treatment is to manage the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia. A psychiatrist tries different types of drugs or combination consistently to achieve the required outcome or result (Hasan et, al.,2013). Some other medications can help such as antianxiety and antidepressants drugs. It can take a couple of weeks to discover an improvement in symptoms. This medication can cause serious side effect to schizophrenia people or patients this may make them reluctant to take them, and unwillingness to taking the medication can cause the effect of drug choice. If one willingness to cooperate with medication might be forced to take an injection and instead of taking the pills.according to most of the patients with schizophrenia are treated with only antipsychotic medication, and there are two groups first generation and second generation antipsychotics (Beck, et, al., 2014).
First generation antipsychotics: It is also known as typical or conventional antipsychotics, are dopamine D2 antagonists and are very strong. Each of these drugs has various on other receptors, like alpha 1, muscarinic serotonin type 2, and histaminic receptor. It has high rate side effect which is extrapyramidal; this includes dystonia’s, rigidity, akathisia, and bradykinesia. Examples of first generation drugs are Fluphenazine, Perphenazine, Haloperidol, and Chlorpromazine(Mayo Clinic, 2017). Second generation antipsychotic they are antipsychotic drugs and are commonly known as neuroleptics and tranquilizers. This is used to treat Schizophrenia, and also use to treat anxiety, dementia, spectrum and obsessive-compulsive disorder. They are considered to be used if the other treatment has failed. Second generation antipsychotic are mostly preferred because they have lower risks of serious side effects,
Prescribed medications play a major role in Schizophrenia treatment. They help in reducing its symptoms like a relapse, and also they help the patient to abstain from any drug and also minimize craving of the drugs. If the patient continues to take the drugs as prescribed their normal health state will be regained, and their weight will return to normal and very soon the patient health condition will not threaten their growth and weight. The examples of a drug that are given to this patient are Paliperidone, Iloperidone, Clozapine, Olanzapine, Lurasidone, Risperidone, Quetiapine, and Ziprasidone, all mention above are the Second generation antipsychotic drugs(Mayo Clinic, 2017).
Its aim is to reduce complaint and promote functioning relating to mental disorder, and it is imperative. An example of Psychosocial interventions includes rehabilitation. Rehabilitation programs are the spotlight in vocational and social training to help the former patients, and the current patient’s difficulties in these area.these programs may include problem-solving, social skills training, use of public transportation and have self-esteem.These approaches are very important for the triumph of the community focus on schizophrenia treatment, as the provide dismiss patients with the skill to live a productive life outside the mental hospital environment.
Support from family , friends and relative are included in patient recovery because is their responsibility to know what the patient need and provide for them and sometimes advise them on issues that are making the patients criticise them self and also teach the on how to control himself in the public, educate while taking with group of people and how to attend to their need with no supervision.Incorporating a group of individuals with schizophrenia is always helpful. Because many psychosocial therapies can be done by group setting and group education which has encouraged connections with others to acquire a skill to manage this disorder. Social support and self-help are becoming frequent, and this group has promoted resources for education, coping advice, and management
Social skills training:
This is a center of attention of improving the individual’s ability to participate in the daily activities and communication. The goal of this treatment is used to teach a patient suffering from Schizophrenia about verbal and none verbal behavior associated with social interactions. So many individuals have been shown such interpersonal abilities in a social environment and the influence of good eye contact during any conversation. Moreover, many people have acquired knowledge to read the many detailed suggestions that are present in social skills, such how to foretell that your co-worker wants to shift the topic of your conversation or wants to do a different activity. It helps so many or every patient to interpret any other social signals so that they can be able to control their action or reaction toward a variety of situation in a company or midst of other people (RAMSAMY, 2017).
SST concludes that if any patient responds positively to the Social skills training, this may raise their self-esteem and put in mind that other people will respond favorably to them, this will change their behavior.Another goal for social skill training improves the ability of the patient to function gain everyday social situation. It enables the patient to find a solution on specific solutions like not interfering other people thing and businesses, not interrupting others during the conversation and phone activate(TOWNSEND, 2017).
Social skills training has several classes topics that are to share to patients during the session, and they include: what are the right behaviors and wrong behaviors in public places. What are the skills needed to take in the midst or group of people or with others? How to find hobbies and share with others? Skills that are needed to make wise decisions and be responsible for the decisions they make. How to handle frustrations, how to praise others and what skills are needed to overcome criticism. The mentioned classes are very important to this patient it makes them understand what will be against their current state and how to control and dodge them.
Some other social skills training include other specific education such as how to raise your children, how to deal with your hunger, how to tell others your need, how to take care of yourself and your basic need and how to spend your money. In all the classes a patient is taught on how to manage and try to change the symptoms of Schizophrenia and these may make it harder for them to interact with others but these training handles everything by making the patient maintain good eye contact, able to speak loudly in the midst of others, use their facial expression correctly and respond quickly to others. Moreover, a patient can learn skills that can help them with their treatment and the skills may include managing their medicine, how to know their medicine are causing sides effects and how to handle that, how to know that you are experiencing a relapse and how to control that, and finally how they can ask help if they need one
Family therapy (Involvement):
This provides education and support to families that have an individual with Schizophrenia, teach them on how to handle and take care of Schizophrenia (Boszormenyi-Nagy, et, al.,2013). Most international clinical guidelines mostly recommend family therapy for schizophrenia. However, the treatment protocol for this patients has not been fully achieved by this yet but more is expected because it has been found out that many patients are responding well to family therapy treatment. Some family has become a substitute in the face of occupational, residence resource and caregiver since they are scared.
Involving patients family member as a collaborator in schizophrenic treatment is very important and beneficial in the clinical management of the patient’s case.In the context of family consultation, some issues can be discussed with both the patients relative and the patients; this is where the opportunities come for the family to share their observation, that provides an intuition into the patient clinician’s specialized knowledge and environment. This consultation should prevail without any assumption that the relationship in the family is problematic.family have the right to decide what way this is the family responsibility (Boszormenyi-Nagy, et, al.,2013).
Close relative such as mother, auntie, sister and brother acts as the major carer for schizophrenia patients. If a patient is in a systematic contact with his or her family members, it is equitable to engage these family members in the patient care. Family’s needs to be treated as associates in the management of the patients, emotional support, communication skills and coping and education in the care of the relative illness. The empowerment and the guidance of the relatives, friends, and families led to advocacy movements like schizophrenia Ireland and National Association for Mental Illness in the United States.family involvement is the limelight of quick recovery of a young patient with schizophrenia (Boszormenyi-Nagy, et, al.,2013).
Individual therapy:
This is imperative because it helps to normalize thought patterns and makes the patient think less of the downside of his or her conditions. This also trains them how to cope with stress and identify relapse signs before it becomes critical (Hasan et, al.,2013).
Most of the people with this mental health disorder require daily support. Moreover, communities have decided to start programs to help schizophrenia patient or person, and these programs include self-help groups, jobs, crisis, and housings. With proper treatment and medication management of Schizophrenia will be very easy.
A pharmaceutical drug is the important treatment of schizophrenia; it is developed and prescribed thus makes schizophrenia regarded as a fatal condition. It is concluded that drugs do not cure this disorder and seldom can worsen schizophrenic symptoms, this is one reason that leads to patient noncomplaining with the antipsychotic regimens. In the 1960’s some psychiatrists did an experiment on niacin, also vitamin B3 and showed a clinical importance that assists in schizophrenia recovery without any side effect. And the treatment is known as Orthomolecular medicine, and it is known a primary therapy for schizophrenia. Orthomolecular treatment was discovered that it supported important recoveries and it improved participants, emotion stability, social functioning, and cognitions. Patients recovery became quicker and functioned at a higher rate than before. And it was discovered many patients were recovering from it at a quick response.
In the past year’s treatment of schizophrenia, spectrum ailment becomes manifest for different reasons this encouraged the use of additional psychological therapy in the therapy. And the was considered as core stone in schizophrenia treatment, although they have ended. Giving good examples relapse rate remains notable in schizophrenia even when designated in a monitored medication. Moreover, most of the patient with this disorder suffers from persistent positive despite a management of an ongoing medication and the neuroleptic drug taken reduces the negative symptoms and social functioning just for some hours. Finally, hospitalization therapy has been replaced by community base care. Hence, it becomes the family and the patient’s responsibility to manage the burden of the illness and in turn to acquire an adequate coping strategy.
Conclusion
Schizophrenia is related to different aspects, every person affected by this disorder will show the difference in ability to function in a normal environment. This patient should be handled with care and receive better treatment and management for them to recover or to not be a threat to the community. Family, friend, and partners should be involved in the care of the patient and it the nurse’s responsibility to educate them on how to look after their need. It is important for the patient to undergo all the treatment and management process so that the nurses can know what they are dealing with and guide them on how they can overcome their negative attitude towards their current health. It countries responsibility to provide all the equipment and tools needed to support those who have a mental disorder. Moreover, also try to educate other on how to take care of those that are affected by this disease by creating awareness.
