In this report, the analysis of two ethical models will be conducted. The ethical models which have been selected are consequentialist and rights (Joppová 2018). With the ongoing global pandemic caused due to Covid-19, several countries have started providing vaccines to their citizens. The vaccines which are being provided to the citizens have been approved by the World Health Organization. However, in order to protect their citizens, the Australian Government have restricted inbound travel from overseas, except for Australian citizens and immigrants to stop spreading of the virus. Based on this case, both the ethical models will be analyzed in the report.
The ethical model consequentialist, is a theory, where the positive or negative side of something totally depends upon the consequence. The case in hand, the Australian Government have restricted inbound travel from the overseas (Love, Salinas and Rotman 2020). For this action, the consequences can be both good and bad. Each and every country generates a huge amount of revenue from the tourism sector. There are several cities and towns present within the Australia, which thrives on the tourism sector. For those cities and towns, they would not be able to generate revenue, to run their services for the citizens. However, the global pandemic, did spread at an alarming rate. Along with that, the global pandemic has also claimed lots of lives. The first step in stopping the global pandemic is to restrict all the foreign flights (Yang and Heijungs 2018). Once the country has restricted the travel of tourists from different nations, it would help the Australian Government to focus on their own citizens.
Here the domestic tourism sector has not being restricted. The country has only restricted the tourists from the different. However, the Australian citizens are still allowed to leave the country and can visit the different nations for tourism purposes (Quong 2018). It is quite evident that, with the global pandemic, every employee and individual have started working from home. Due to this reason, they are unable to spend time with their coworkers within the office premises like they used to do it before. However, with the domestic and foreign airline services, these employees would still be able to enjoy their vacations during the pandemic. Also, with the restrictions which are currently present, the employees and individuals would need to adhere to them, to restrict the spread of the virus. This will also help the Government to manage the pandemic within the country itself.
Consequentialist ethical model, totally focuses on the consequences which the action would have. Thus, here the focus would be on the consequences which will be how the citizens acts towards the restriction which has been imposed by the Australian Government. To this action, the citizens will have faith and trust towards the government, as they are looking for the well-being of the citizens (Weidema et al. 2018). Also, while the foreign tourists are being barred from entering the country, the Government would be able to better manage the pandemic within the country. Through this, they will also be able to limit the spread the virus.
Furthermore, once the spread of the virus has been prevented, the Government might lift off the restrictions which has been imposed earlier. This ethical model can only be analyzed only after the consequences have occurred. The main motive for this ethical model is to guide the people to the right path. Also here, the Australian Government wants to restrict the spread of the virus within their nation (Clark and Virani 2021). Due to this reason, they have restricted the entry of tourists from the other nations. This ethical model, helps the Government also understand whether the decision they have taken is causing a good effect on the towards. Once they have imposed the restriction, with time, and the consequences here after will help the Government to understand whether the restriction was a good move or a bad one.
The rights ethical model, talks about the right of the human being to live in a society without facing any kind of issues or problems. Here, the Australian Government have restricted the inbound travel from the overseas except for the Australian citizens and immigrants (Bench-Capon 2020). Once this restriction has been imposed within the country, it needs to be checked whether the rights of the citizens is being hampered or not. The restriction which has been applied within the country is for the individuals who are not Australian citizen and immigrants. Due to this reason, the citizens of Australia are not affected with this restriction. With the restriction in action, the right to liberty is also not affected of the Australian citizens. The country did not impost any kind of restriction for travelling within the country from one region to another.
Through the rights ethical model, it can be understood, whether the restriction which has been imposed by the Australian Government, affects the rights of the citizens or not. Also, if there is any kind of damage caused to the rights of the citizens, then the citizens can inform the Government about the issue (Phillips 2019). To which, the Government need to re-evaluate the restriction which has been imposed. This will help them in staying on the same side with the citizens, without causing any kind of disruption into the daily lives of the citizens. Through this restriction, the normal livelihood of the citizens of Australia, is not hampered. They would be able to work or visit the workplace, if the work from office culture has been reintroduced into the nation. Furthermore, with the restriction, the Government would be able to provide essential medical attentions towards the citizens who are affected by the Covid-19 virus (Amoroso and Tamburrini 2018). Also, while the foreign tourists are banned from entering the country, it would help the Government to focus on the provinces within the country where the Covid-19 cases are in surge.
The rights ethical model, also help the majority of the citizens who are staying in the country of Australia. Here the major concern which the Australian government has been on the lookout is to safeguard the community from the spread of the virus. Through the restriction, the Government would be able to protect their citizens who are currently present within the nation. If the tourists are allowed to enter into the country, then there would be a sudden surge of tourists from every nation around the world (John and Sebo 2020). In that kind of a situation, it would become tough for the Australian Government to monitor whether all the people are adhering to the rules and guidelines. Through the rights ethical model, it can be understood that, currently the Australian Government wants to contain the Covid-19 virus within the country itself. This will help them in focusing on specific regions within the Nation in order to eradicate the virus completely (Song 2022). After that, once the virus has been contained and eradicated from the country, then it would be helpful for the Government to open the country for the foreign tourists to visit.
Here, while analyzing the rights of the citizens the Government have imposed the restriction in a manner that, it would benefit the citizens of Australia. Also, as the law is a restriction to the tourists, thus, it has been applied in a manner that, the domestic tourism sector would not be affected by the restriction. The rights ethical model helps the Government to keep the citizen rights aligned with the rules and regulations present. This helps the country to function better, with their citizens (Smillie, Katic and Laham 2021). Also, through this restriction, the Government will be able to monitor wisely on the citizens whether they are adhering to the rules and regulations or not.
Conclusion
In order to conclude, here two ethical models have been analyzed. The analysis has been conducted based on a restriction which the Australian Government has imposed. Through the restriction, any foreign tourists will not be allowed to enter the country. The citizens of the country and the immigrants will be allowed into the country from a different nation. Through the ethical models, it has been understood, whether how the ethics are being affected through the imposed restriction. With the help of the consequentialist ethical model, it has been understood about the kind of consequences which might lead to after the restriction has been imposed. However, with the help of the rights ethical model, it has been understood, whether the basic human rights of the citizens of Australia, has been hampered or not. Through the analysis, it has been understood that both the ethical models have been kept inline while imposing the restriction.
