Communication in the organizations refers to the process of sharing information among the organizations people (Shockley-Zalabak 2014). The success of any business organization largely depends on the effective implementation of communication strategies. However, several barriers can be seen in the process of organizational communication. For this reason, cultural and communication issues are considered as major issues. The main aim of this report is to analyze and evaluate various cultural and communication issues in Pine Park. Based on the analysis of problems, some recommendations are provided.
From the provided case study, it can be seen that there are some major cultural and communication issue in Pine Park. In today’s complex world, many factors shape the people all over the world. Culture is considered as one of such important factors that has impact on people all over the world. Culture plays an important part in the business organizations, as it is helpful in the implementation of effective communication strategies. In the business organizations, people from different cultures work together; and sometimes, it leads to the conflict of cultural values. There is not any exception of this fact in case of Pine Park. According to the provided case study, it can be seen that there are many cultural and communication issues in Pine Park that are main reason for the breakdown of communication in the company. The major cultural and communication issues are discussed below:
Different Communication Style: In different cultures, people have different communication style. In this aspect, a major communication barrier in Pine Park can be language. It may be happened that the staffs and service users communicate in different languages. For this reason, there is a massive communication gap in the organization. In this context, it needs to be mentioned that different styles of non-verbal communication can be seen among the people of different cultures. For all these reason, there is a massive communication breakdown in Pine Park (Swain et al. 2013).
Different Attitude towards Conflict: People from different cultures manage organizational culture in different ways. Some cultures consider conflict as a positive aspect and some cultures take them as factors to be avoided. The provided case study shows the view of different employees and service users towards the specific issue (Kawar 2012). This particular aspect plays an important role in the breakdown of organizational communication, as the difference in consideration is a major influencer in communication breakdown.
Different Approaches of to Complete Tasks: People of separate cultures have separate techniques to complete tasks. In case of Pine Park, the service user is considering taking apple is good for her health; at the same time, the nurse considers that taking apple is harmful for her health and diet (Sommer et al. 2012). Thus, it can be seen that there is a difference in initiatives that leads to the breakdown of communication in organization.
Different Attitudes: In different cultures, people have different attitudes towards the solving of different problems. At the time of dealing with a conflict, one needs to care about the emotion of the other people (Johns 2013). In case of Pine Park, it can be seen that different staffs and service users of Pine Park do not care about the feelings of each other as they have very rude attitude towards each other. Thus, it can be considered as another major reason for communication breakdown in Pine Park.
Different Style of Decision-Making: It can be seen that people from different cultures have different decision-making style. Strong value of people works behind the decision-making process of them (Carbaugh 2013). In case of Pine Park, it can be seen that the staffs as well as the service users have taken the decision regarding the inconvenience without considering all the necessary aspects. This can be a major contributor in communication breakdown.
Different Approaches of Knowing: Major differences can be seen in epistemologies across the cultures. Epistemology refers to the process of knowing things. In case of Pine Park, it can be seen that the service users and staffs have different ways to know things. They have different knowledge about the same thing (Taylor, Nicolle and Maguire 2013). This aspect leads to the development of conflicts. For this reason, it may be considered as a major factor for communication breakdown.
From the above discussion, it can be seen that there are some major cultural issues contributing towards the breakdown of communication in Pine Park. Below are some recommendations to the board of Pine Park to avoid conflict:
Conclusion:
The above discussion shows that some major cultural factors work as the influencers of communication breakdown in Pine Park. Some of them are different communication style difference in attitude, decision-making process; variation in the process of task completion, different in the process of knowing things and others. However, the study also shows the ways to reduce conflicts in Pine Park like implementation of various conflict management tools, various training and development programs and others.
