This research essay is all about the language, that is the greatest invention of humankind. This is the thesis statement of my research essay. I start my essay with an introduction and definition of language, then, In the upcoming or body paragraphs, I will describe how our language is different from other species, global or universal language (English), its importance, origin of language. I remark some quotations with my own point of view and with conclusion I came to an end of my essay.
In the very last, there are some references mentioned from where I cited my work.
Language is the only way through which people communicate with each other, express their feelings, emotions, etc. without language it seems to be very difficult to share our views. It is not necessary for this, but also helps to build friendship, economy relationships. “language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow (Holmes)”. It simply means that like blood is necessary for our soul, in a similar way language is also important for our survival.
Human language is unique language because it is morally human in nature and uses various symbols. No other species can spare our language system.
There are many countries or cultures in the world and each country has its own language, even though there are various languages spoken in a same culture. Likewise, a language distinguishes the differences across countries. Let’s take an example of India, there are total 28 states in India and each state has its own culture, own beliefs and own language.
Global language – There are approximately 6912 languages still spoken all over the world but still English is considered as the global language. It is common and prior language uses for all purposes like – in business, as international language, in science, entertainment, in each field. Nowadays, person who speaks English is measured as literate rather than by his/her knowledge. Also, career opportunities are opened to those English speaking people. Like – while taking an job interview, interviewer also focuses on English speaking skills of that person. In present world of globalization, there is an urgent requirement of such a common language to communicate with all other people or to live in a society. People need to learn English for mint reasons, like – we can say English is dominant on internet across all continents because internet also plays a vital part to spread English language. Even in the field of education, almost all the books and other study materials are published in English to access for all people. Generally, students who study abroad, they use English language as a mode of communication and learning. It has been measured that approximately three hundred and fifty million people used to communicate or uses English language out of around six billion people in the world. For business purposes, to import or export things from other countries, English is considered as the only way to do this.
Importance – There is a great importance of language to human being. Man could not become man apart from by language. This is one and only reason that humans are different from animal or any other species. No doubt that animals though have their own language like – bark used by dogs, but totally different from ours. Language also reflects the personality or character of the person (Shah).

With the help of language our world established because people can speak, understand each other problems, socialize in community. Language has great influence on existence of the world. With the help of language people can fight or speak for their rights, also can give their point of view.
“Language is the dress of thought (Johnson).”
It is rightly said that language directly influences the way we think, the words or sentences we speak are first interpreted in our mind like – we think about it and then we speak.
Origin of language – Half of the total world’s population, Indo-European is the most widespread group of languages spoken across the world. In 2000 BC people started speaking Indo-European languages and then reach the Atlantic coast through Europe.
Our ancestors didn’t know how to speak, somehow, they came up with few words and then started scribbling them. Languages or vocabulary changes through generations. Like – modern kids come up with rafts of new words.
In conclusion, language plays a vital role to express themselves, expressing our identity, to release emotions. It relates with every part of human life in society (Crystal & Robins). Without language, it is difficult to maintain relations, to live in society, because that’s the only thing that distinguishes us from animals because we can understand other feelings, emotions via language. So, I think it is really one of the greatest inventions of human.
