This week you will develop an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is just like a References List—a list of citations to books, articles, and documents, both text and electronic—with one addition. Each entry includes a paragraph that 1) briefly summarizes the source, 2) tells how you will use it in an essay, and 3) evaluates its credibility. Click here for a model annotated bibliography. To complete the annotated bibliography, you will need to use the South University Online Library to locate three sources about the essay topic you will write about in Week 3 (see: Week 3 Literary Analysis for more detailed information). In that assignment you will write about either Candide or Faust. For each source, you will create a citation formatted in APA style. Under each citation insert a paragraph that summarizes the source, tells how you will use it, and evaluates its credibility.Read chapter 9 in The New Century Handbook about how to judge sources. Then click here for guidelines for determining whether a source is credible and scholarly. This is an assignment that will require you to spend some time researching, so plan accordingly. The key to locating suitable library sources is to choose appropriate databases in which to search. For example, a student writing about Goethe’s Faustchooses to search under the General Education category and then clicks on the Literature Online resource. Having accessed Literature Online, the student types: Goethe Faust, and after reviewing the selections available, chooses to download an article. The sources that you choose can be ebooks, chapters in books, scholarly journal articles, or credible online materials. Librarians are available to help you with your research.
