Genesis 12:1 says “Get out from your county and your father’s house, in a land that I will show you”. In the Seer series by Rachelle Dekker, It shows how a person passes through a lot of alternating rise and fall with their family. There are manifold examples of the theme of family throughout the Seer Series as demonstrated in the action of the central characters of Carrington, Selena Carson and Kennedy Brant. Carrington Hale was about to be taken from her family.
Selena wanted to leave the Authority City to protect her children. Kennedy was shocked that she found her one and only sister after numerous years.
Since Carrington is about to be taken from her family, she felt anxiety. It was the day to be chosen or to go to the authority. Unfortunately, Carrington did not qualify to be chosen. “Carrington yaned her hand away and watched her brother erupt into wails of confusion. Raging sadness threatened her balance, but she managed to remain steady as she followed the guard away from her family” (Dekker, The Choosing 11).
This clarifies that Carrington is about to be taken by the authority. She was taken away from her family. It was a heartbreaking moment when the guard took her away from her family.
Moreover Selena was thinking about escaping from the authority. Ever since after Ian Carson got captured by the authority, Selena felt that she will no longer be safe in the authority city. After the execution of Arianna Carson, Selena began to worry about her other children.
“The girl left, and Selena stood frozen in place. Ranya tugged her shirt again, but Selena ignored her. All she could think about was finding a way to protect the two daughters she had left, and the only way to do that was to leave the city “(Dekker, The Calling 25-26). This illustrates that Selena was anxious that her family would go to prison so she wanted to save her children.
Although in the last seer series “The Returning” Elise and the Father had a family relationship. Elise escaped from the Capitol Building and found her sister and Aaron was talking to her in her thought that she was light. “Remember what I call you daughter you are the light of the world” (Dekker, The Returning 188). This demonstrates that Elise was alone the whole but the Father was talking in her thought that she was more than she thought. This conclude the family theme with the Father and Elise bond together in thought.
As can be seen in the Seer Series, the three quotes can support the theme. In the first seer series, the Authority took Carrington because she was not qualified for being chosen. It was unpleasant time for her to leave her family. In the second seer series Selena was anxious about her children. She felt like the authority was about to take her children. In the last seer series Aaron was talking to Elise in her thoughts. She was told that she was more than she thought. The bible associate with the quotes by showing how family is important from one to one. All in all the quote and the bible verse relates with the theme
