Millennials
are seen as the new evolving generation. We are the generation of changes and
social justice. The millennial generation is the generation adapted to the
socialist society, based on our capabilities that differentiate us from past
generations capabilities. We are the generation of impossible dreaming, that
has taken our skills to a higher level than previous generations. We are the
generation that goes beyond the limits and explores multiple things at the same
time, making us multitaskers.

Society
is built upon generations. As in now, this society is emerging the generation
of millennials. Who are the millennials? The millennials are the generation
that changed society in its whole. Millennials are those that were born in the
peak of the evolution of technology. We expanded that technology. Millennials
are adaptive to the world, we make it our own, and we built it upon our need
and the rest of the society’s needs. Past generations were not capacitated to
do what millennials are capable of doing. To prove this, we need to understand
how the society worked before and how does it work now. We differentiate from
past generations because we are impossible dreamers. People of the past
generations are seen as a pessimistic generations of the future America,
something that the millennials have changed. The millennial generation is the
generation adapted to the socialist society, based on our capabilities that
differentiate us from past generations capabilities. This has made the
millennials capable of a more stable economic system.
Therefore; to understand where we come from, what we think, what we do, what we need and what we are capable, first we need to know the origin of the millennial generation. “There are no precise dates for when the generation starts and ends.” (Joel Snell) Most researchers use the birth years ranging from the early 1980s to around 2000. The article Generation Y by Joel Snell, he states that “In 2013, a global generational study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers with the University of Southern California and the London Business School defined Millennials as those born between 1980 and 1995.” In 2014, a comparative study from Dale Carnegie Training and MSW Research was released which studies Millennials compared to other generations in the workplace. This study described “Millennial” birth years between 1980–1996. Therefore we can state that Millennials are the generation between 1983 through 2000.
However;
we are the current generation in charge of this world. To understand how the
millennials view things around them, we need to know and understand what the
political standards are in this generation. First, what is capitalism?
“Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights,
including property rights, in which all property is privately owned. The
recognition of individual rights entails the banishment of physical force from
human relationships: basically, rights can be violated only using force”. (Ayn
Rand) Why do we reject capitalism? In a socialist society, we protect each
other, not fight against. Millennials are expected to be more inclined to work
for companies that give back to society rather than for-profit companies that
do not work for the betterment of the world. This way we can control what goes
around us. Millennials need to be in control. Yes, we feel the need to be in
power, to know everything. This is because we demand ourselves more, unlike the
past generations we want to do more than what is necessary. Past generations
only worked on one thing, and they devoted their lives to that one thing, that
they needed to survive. Also, past generations rely on capitalism, and this
lead them to failure and instability. Millennials decided to protect each
other and not against. The government has one function, and that is; to protect
the society, our rights, and our needs. Now with this said millennials don’t
like capitalism like past generations. The millennials have been raced in a
different environment, and they prefer socialism over capitalism. We are the
exception.
Millennials are diverse. In 2010, Pew Research Center Study revealed that 67 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds agreed that increasing ethnic and racial diversity is a good thing. Millennials are open-minded; we see the world from a different (beneficial) point of view. Including diversity means, everyone together, we don’t separate each other because we are different. If not, we see this as an advantage that will help us evolve, in many areas like technology. Millennials support same-sex marriage, support equality, and very diverse in religious matters. Diversity defines millennials as the generation of change and justice. Something that past generations attempted but failed due to the lack of ignorance.
Millennials
are experts in multitasking. We do everything at once we think beyond our
capabilities. As millennials, we try to everything we can on our own. Many of
us have more than one capabilities, and we chose to practice them at the same
time. This way we gain intelligence thought our hard work, we prefer this, over
doing nothing. We are focused, and determine on what we would like to do and
be. While researching this specific topic, an article entitled “Characteristics
of the Millennial Generation” was found. This article states that there are
seven characteristics of our generation. They include: special, sheltered,
confident, team-oriented, achieving, pressured, and conventional. Interests
between this article and another were similar and interesting to connect. The
article entitled “Maximizing Millennials in the Workplace” focuses on the
importance of the millennials in the workplace, and also what kind of effect
and impact they have already made in the workplace as of today. We like
and environment that will enable us to concentrate. From our academic
development, we differentiated from past generations, based on our
determination on our academics. “Current research suggests that the
Millennial generation exhibits different characteristics to previous
generations, which implies that for this new generation requirements and
expectations of the learning environment are likely to be quite unlike that of
previous generations (Howe & Strauss, 2000; Oblinger, 2003; Poindexter,
2003; Raines, 2002). “ (Dwyer, Diana) We are the exception of past
generation because of this not only we are multitaskers, we like to have
knowledge over more than one thing, in this case, we do not limit ourselves.
There is something called the gig economy. What is the Gig Economy? “In a gig
economy, temporary, flexible jobs are commonplace, and companies tend toward
hiring independent contractors and freelancers instead of full-time employees.
A gig economy undermines the traditional economy of full-time workers who
rarely change positions and instead focus on a lifetime career.”
(Inverstopedia) This way millennials are adaptable to almost any type of work.
Also, this enables us to gain more money, by having multiple jobs. Also,
attached to this millennials tend to have more than one degree. This is because
we want to continue developing our silks and not to limit our capabilities. By
performing more than one degree, major, or concentration we open different
opportunities in the gig economy. Past generations, would never though of doing
such thing, they would work extra hours, in the same job for more cash.
Meanwhile, the Millennials, worked less, in different things and gained more.
According to James Potter, the Millennial Generation is also known as the “M Generation,” since millennials are expected to consume massive amounts of media, much more than any other previous generation (Potter, 2012). Something that has separated us from past generation is the amount of media that we consume in our daily lives. Thanks to our technology evolution we have been able to have more ways of communicating. Also, millennial generation’s perception of time has been skewed by things like fast-passes at Disneyland, speedy checkout lanes in grocery stores, same-day shipping through online shopping, and even early decision applications to colleges. The idea that they should receive things with little to no wait time has made them inept in situations where they must be patient. Overall, the perception of millennials by prior generations has been negative, but the reality is that millennials have merely grown up in a new technological era and have adapted as such, modifying their ways of life to fit the ease and accessibility of both new and old media presence. The impact of media on the millennial generation is quite extensive, as today’s culture is constantly bombarded by mass media. Whether mass media is consumed by way of the Internet, social media or older types of media such as television, constant over-saturation has led to a state of perpetual automaticity in the millennial generation more so than in any prior generation. According to James Potter, “when [people] are too concerned with efficiency, [they] lose opportunities to expand [their] experience and to put [themselves] in a position to make better decisions that can make [them] healthier, wealthier, and happier” (Potter, 2012). This means that the automaticity prevalent in today’s generations is becoming detrimental to their ways of life, in that they only tune in the media they know and care about, so they do not get the full experience of media that may improve their lives in some way. Because they are more exposed, this leads them to look further into those views and become much more open-minded to what they see compared to previous generations who tend to be stuck in one way. Because millennials are more open-minded towards others; this leads to having conflicts with those who are older that grew up in a different way. Previous generations didn’t grow up with information from around the world at their fingertips. They are only familiar with what happened to them or people close to them. Because the Millennials are more open to new things, there are have things done in our society today that has never been done before.
In
conclusion; millennials are capable of many more things that past generation
have failed to do so. We are adapted to a socialist society that benefits us,
based on our capacities and knowledge, to protect our society. Millennials keep
evolving and creating new adaptable changes to society.
