Current Situation of Robots in Society

A robot is a machine, which is designed for doing complex series without any human involvement and is usually programmed using a computer. Robots are spreading in the civilian world. Right from using them to fight wars to even serving people in a theater, robots have been used widely. With the increase in their use, the question of ethical approach and morality also found to increase. The aim of the report is to examine the importance of using robots in society and its implications. In order to understand this, report analyzes the advantages and disadvantages while using robots in the society. The study also identifies the current situation of use of robots in society and the various issues related to it. It is on the basis of the evaluation, certain recommendations will be provided that shall be effective for development of robots in future.

Robots have been found widely used in industries, research works, and education sector. Some common examples of the robots are telechir, Swarm robots, and advance robot i.e. android. These robots are quite helpful for the big companies for doing various tasks consequently, which increases the productivity of the company as well as results in cost effectiveness. These robots are designed keeping various characteristics such as sensing, movement, energy, and intelligence in them. If the current situation is taken into consideration, it has found that the robots perform the work more consistently as compared to the workers, which helps them to enhance the productivity and efficiency of the company.

People are also accepting the use of robots because people with a high lifestyle, want everything to be automated, easier and faster. In fact, robots have also found wide applications in teaching and learning process. Robots are designed in such a way that it can effectively work in a rigid environment like small space, without air, and in fire. Thus, it can be said that the robots can be used for carrying out dangerous and unwanted works that might not be possible for humans to do.

This part of the study pints out the major advantages and disadvantages of using robots in the society.

• Robots are found to put significantly positive impacts on the society, because they make the work in human life easier by using latest technologies.
• Robots can effectively work 24/7 without any benefits and salary. They can work more accuracy, faster, and consistently as compared to other people in the society.
• Robots can perform complex and harmful tasks as well, thereby, reducing risk based on health and safety.
• Robots can also increase job opportunities to the people in terms of design, construct, and maintenance of these machines. For instance, Humanoid robots are effectively raising the economy, which are positive impacts on the society.

• Robots are very expensive and their maintenance cost is also high.
• If ethically considered, robots may increase the dependency of people in future in terms of any home task or social activities.
• Ineffective design and inventions of robots may negatively affect the society.
• Use of Robots also obsolete human jobs; in doing so unemployment will increase and in a drastic situation, the crime rate may tend to increase.
• Computer bug also directly attacks the robots nerves, which are negative impacts on the human beings.
• It has to be understood that robots have artificial intelligence because they are designed with pre-defined programs. Thus its intelligence cannot be compared with human intelligence.
• Lack of feelings and emotions make them ineffective to use for many purposes.

If the ethical and the moral concerns related to the use of robots in the society is taken into consideration, a number of major and important points can be discussed as below:

• It is the major responsibility of the engineers to build the robot in a way that will not harm or injure anyone. The robot is also responsible to obey the orders of others. In addition to this, the robots are also responsible to take responsibility of their own protection.
• Using robots for the purpose of therapeutic treatments is not welcome. For instance, a robot cannot be used for treating children with autism or other disability. The children might get addicted to the machine and that might result in same drastic situation.
• Use of robots to support regular activities of old and aged humans is not encouraged. Regular activities including bathing, cleaning of the aged people creates ethical and moral question on the use of robots.
• Ethically, robots are forbidden to be used for the sake of interrogation. While interrogating, conflicts might arise and that can lead to a considerable drastic situation.
• Robots have also been kept away from the use of protection of major vulnerable species because ineffective intervention of robots in the lives of these species might result in certain more disturbing situation.

If the role of robots are considered in the development of society, it can be said that robots will be helpful for mankind because they shall be able to provide better work and also will be able to fight against risky situations. Major problems and issues can be solved easily within a short time with the use of robots. However, this growing technology will also put a big question mark on the importance of human. People think that robots are advantageous for them but conversely, future robots may enhance the society dependency as a result, it will affect the daily life routine. Robots are also very effective for the research works. In the society, robots provide the safety of workers through preventing the incidents that are not performed by human.  There is no doubt that the improvement of the human society depends on the use of technical advancement but it is also equally import to undertake the approach keeping the ethical guidelines into consideration. In addition to this, the increasing dependency on robots can also lead to creation of racial robots that will discriminate among humans and show biasness. The possibility is high because robots have artificial intelligence that cannot be compared with the intelligence and judgmental ability of human.

As there are many advantages of using robots in the society, there are certain issues as well that the society is facing in the recent time.

• Declination in jobs and unemployment: With the use of robots and better technology, massive reduction in the job is the primary issue. Unemployment can disturb the complete economic condition of a country.
• Inequality in distribution of wealth: There will be major debate on the distribution of money that has been earned by a machined or a robot. Thus, the earned revenue will go to lesser number of people and that will create inequality.
• Increasing dependency on inanimate objects: Latest technology of robots may enhance the dependencies of the people in the society, which will negatively affected the future development decision.

As it has been evident that unemployment can be the most dangerous issue that the society will face with the increasing use of robots, it can be recommend that highly specialized jobs have to be created. This shall help to overcome the unemployment rate and minimum use of robotics in the society. The legislative and the legal guidelines shall be rigid enough to bind the use of robots to a particular extent that shall not affect the human resource of the society. In addition to this, people should also be given the moral authority to judge the effective use of robots and its implications in the society.

Conclusion: 

With the detailed analysis, it can be said that robots have significant role to play in the society. It has been identified that robots serve major advantages to the society in terms of increasing productivity or work in a situation where it becomes risky or impossible for humans to work. However, the increasing use of robots has also created debate on the ethical use of robots. The adverse effect of increasing use of robots might result in decreased employment and dependency of people on artificial intelligence. Keeping the situation into consideration, certain recommendations have been made that could effectively decrease the ill effect of use of robots in the society.
