Use of illegal substances and drugs are considered to be a great threat for the Canadian government. It is identified as major challenge for the authority to deal with the serious issue. In fact, the opioid epidemic affected the country and the Canadian community extensively. As per the government report, it can be argued that 26% of the Canadians were suffering with opioid issue and the government expects that it will be increased further. Based on this, understanding, this report is going to discuss various aspects of drug use in order to conduct an in-depth analysis of the drug related problems. Moreover, the report also includes the triangle model of social analysis to get the insights of the drug related problem in Canada.
Individual
Relationship with others
As far as the report presented by Yargeau et al., (2014) it can be stated that in Canada teenagers are mainly addicted to the use of illegal substances and drugs. The government report on use of drugs identifies that 47,000 Canadians died every year due to use of illegal substances illegally. Among them most of the users are identified as youth and teenagers. According to the report of Ccdus.ca (2018) 23% of the Ontario students are reported to sale or purchase drugs and illegal substances. Moreover, as per the 2017 report it can be seen that there were 42% of the students who suffered with illicit substances. The major reason behind it was the enormous academic pressures and lack of understanding about the consequences of the drug use.
On the other hand, Yargeau et al., (2014) tried to figure out the use of drugs from a socio-psychological perspective. He argued that most of those use of drugs is related to anxiety and depression that is a global phenomenon due to the indiscriminate use of social media. As a result of that nowadays Canadian women are also getting addicted with the use of drugs and illegal substances. This global cause makes the Canadian market a lucrative and profitable market for drug gangs. It is resembled with the increasing rate of crimes in the cities and towns in Canada. As a result of that drug abuse has become indiscriminately side by side and it is expected to be increased havoc in near future.
Ideologies
Hetero-sexism
In the context of increasing rate of drug use in Canada, it can be stated that there are series of factors that are used as a catalyst into the process. In response to this, the hetero-sexism is a concept that identifies as a major reason for use of drug indiscriminately among the Canadian youths. In this regard, before the prohibition of purchasing sexual services in 2014, the prostitutes were the main dealers and tradecraft for the drug dealers in Canada (Hayashi et al., 2016). Bill C-36, the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (PCEPA) put an end to the drug trafficking through the sex workers which was a traditional fashion in Canada before 2014.
Capitalism
On the other hand, Seddon (2014) advocated that the role of capitalism and globalization made the drug trafficking internationally organized crimes. As per the research, it can be stated that most of those drugs are manufactured and crafted in the developing countries. The major markets are North America and Europe. In this context, the role of capitalism is to some extent responsible for making the situation worsen to deal with the drug traffickers. As a matter of fact, it can be stated that the Canadian market because of its prosperity and profitability is getting very lucrative for the drug traffickers to expand their business in Canada. Therefore, Yargeau et al., (2014) opined that the capitalist trend and the free trade policy paved the way for the criminals to enter into profitable market rigorously.
Structures
In designing the drug policy, it is also important to also consider the structures including the governing bodies and institutions. This is due to the reason that institutions are important in initiating the drug policy and they are responsible to amend the changes in the existing drug policy. Some of the notable institutions to be included in to drug policy are religious organizations and schools (Lanchester, 2014). The major reason of including the religious organization in the drug policy is the huge influence they enjoy over the larger section of the society. In addition, religious organizations are having the power to deviate the social approach without having the requirement of laws and regulations. Thus the implementation process will be more swift and effective (Seddon, 2014). In addition, the religious organizations are also maintaining the social approach and bindings, which will help to prevent the larger population in taking up drugs. In the Canadian perspective, number of catholic and Christian organizations is having huge influence among the major section of the population. Thus, their positive impact will ensure that major sections are not getting attracted towards the drug.
Another major institution in the structure is school. This is due to the reason that school is the preliminary step for the society in initiating a particular approach and vision. In addition, quality of the education and other activities being practiced in schools are also having influences in the society and individual nature. The more will be the effective schooling process and the lower will be the probability of larger section of the society getting deviated (Stevens & Measham, 2014). In the Canadian environment, the quality of the school is good and it is also reflecting in the lower level of drug related case in the country. This should also be noted that school plays the role of creating awareness about the negative impact of drug on the population. Hence, the level of awareness also gets increased in the long term.
Social problems
There are good number of social problems can get emerged from the drug issue. This is due to the reason drug is majorly having negative impact on the individuals. One of the major social problems is poverty. In majority of the underdeveloped states mainly in the Asian and African regions are being affected by high level of drug penetration in the society. Poverty and drug is interrelated due to the reason that the cost involved in drug is leading the victims towards more poverty (Contreras, 2014). It is also identified that people already below the poverty line are further giving up their assets for having drug. Thus the level of poverty is further getting increasing in the recent time. Violence is another major social issue that can get emerged from drug. This is due to the reason that drug adductors are much aggressive in nature and they can go to any extent. In the recent time, there are number of violence including the domestic violence are being reported across the world due to the drug issue (Small et al., 2013).
Conclusion
This can be concluded that social problems are major impact of drug in the recent and only an effective drug policy will be able to impact of drug from the society in the long term. In this paper, the model of social analysis is being used to evaluate about different aspects related to drug policy. It is identified that each of the elements are interrelated and effective coordination among them will ensure that drug policy is effective in mitigating the identified risk. In this paper, there are number of social problems being identified and discussed.
