In order to pinpoint the root causes of Nigeria’s seemingly endless construction project delays or cancellations, this research examined a number of troubling concerns. As a result of massive financial commitments, a number of public projects have already been abandoned in different sections of the nation. In the building business, the majority of the work is supported by foreign governments (Unegbu et.al., 2020). One of the main reasons for this hazardous situation has been attributed to a lack of project management and analysis. This industry is also confronted by skyrocketing input costs brought on by a scarcity of construction materials locally and the difficulty of importing overseas substitutes. A lack of well-trained indigenous workforce is also hampering the construction industry’s ability to plan, manage, and implement contracts handed to it. It’s becoming more common for companies to improvise, resulting in waste and pilferage. Furthermore, the major challenges of Nigerian project construction industry are going to be analysed with the implication of suitable research methods in an effective way (Moshood et.al., 2020).

The main aim of this research is to analyze the project management challenges faced by the Nigerian Construction Industry and in order to accomplish it, there are some objectives that needs to be addressed are mentioned below:
(a) To analyse the management challenges of Construction Project in Nigeria
(b) To demonstrate the role of Project Management in Construction Industry
(c) To determine the ways project managers, contribute to the challenges faced by the contractors in the delivery of a construction project.
This research project necessitates that certain significant research goals and objectives be established in the form of a review of the literature, where its viewpoints of many writers and researchers are effectively included. So, here are some of the primary research goals:
(a) To analyse the concept of project management in relation to the Nigerian construction industry.
(b) To demonstrate the challenges of Nigerian Construction industry in relation to the project management.
This research project requires the formulation of a few key research questions, which must be answered by a comprehensive evaluation of relevant literature, drawing on the insights of a wide range of writers and experts. So, here are some of the most pressing research questions:

The study found that poor funding, corruption, a lack of sufficient project execution equipment, a lack of technological expertise, poor project analysis, an inability to incorporate the developed policies, economic instability, and environmental issues all add to the problem of project assessment and monitoring (Osuizugbo and Ojelabi, 2020). So, the research indicated that project management and assessment in Nigeria had not been considerably accomplished due to both internal and external influences. Research institutions should be formed to develop locally produced building materials that can replace imported ones, according to the findings of the study. There must be some oversight over the govt’s administration in order to keep initiatives from becoming wasteful and inefficient. Design and construction businesses in the nation should be held to higher standards of professionalism by enforcing strict laws and regulations. All government entities should set up project management and assessment offices to keep tabs on the numerous initiatives being undertaken by various government agencies, ministries, and departments and agencies in Nigeria. In this way, project management and assessment tools and procedures may be used more efficiently and effectively (Ogunsanya et.al., 2019).
The customer indicates an interest in having a building, bridge, road, hydropower project, etc. erected for him. An indication that the project will be funded to completion is implied by this declaration of desire. It is therefore argued by the researchers that the customer must accept the risk inherent in the contract that makes adequate budgetary provisions for such events, especially in civil works. In addition, the customer needs the assistance of an expert in order to translate his visions into something that can be understood, reproduced, and built (Emmanuel et.al., 2018). The project designer is needed here. Consultant experience engineers, according to the studies and researchers, have achieved legendary status in engineering history for their function as integrators of all the project’s specialised design parts. During the consultation, the customer in order to get a clear picture of exactly what they want. Preliminary designs are created by consulting with experts, who visit the site and analyse its topography, soil conditions, and other physical restrictions such as labour mobility and the needs of the local planning authority. Using the information provided by the client, the expert then creates a preliminary design that is sent to the customer for review and approval in terms of capability, aesthetics, security, and cost, among other factors.
The job will then be put out to bidding, and a reputable contractor will be chosen to do the work. The scope of the project and technical criteria for assessing performance and quality of the work are often defined by the consultant (Fadun and Saka, 2018). It is the consultant’s responsibility to make sure that the contractor is adhering to the standards set forth by the testing methods. It was the goal of this study to promote the use of program management programs in developing countries by examining the challenges facing the project management methodology and proposing improvement plans that can protect the sustainable development and progress of construction management systems in Nigerian construction. As a result, the findings of this research are important to the academic community as well as other building industry participants in developing nations, particularly Nigeria.
This might cause the project to come to a stop, or it can cause to the project being completed but the customer being dissatisfied with the results. Project management in the construction industry is hindered by a lack of financial resources (Ebekozien, 2020). The project’s goals are easily realised when there is a steady cash commitment. To ensure a successful project, several resources might be made available by the customer, including supplies, personnel, and plant and equipment.
It was found that Nigeria’s construction project management systems face a number of difficulties. Construction project managers, according to the findings of this research, must possess strong managerial abilities in order to do their jobs effectively. If a person wants to be successful in construction management, they need to have a grasp of and abilities in planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling (Tanko et.al., 2018).
To build a project that is both practical and financially sustainable, the construction professional uses management skills to satisfy the needs of the customer. Passive engagement by the PM, a lack of client involvement in decision-making, the use of subpar materials, design errors, a lack of efficient communication, and poor treatment of employees are among the study’s most significant difficulties. Most construction projects face at least one of these problems, which may lead to a variety of problems, such as cost overruns, delays, time overruns, abandonment, and disputes (Kineber et.al., 2021).
For a successful construction site, the project manager must be involved in all aspects of daily operations, as was shown by this research. The manager must take an active role in the project at hand. There has been a growing consensus among constructions industry experts that the customer is the most important stakeholder. The success or failure of a building projects is influenced by the decisions made throughout the project’s planning stages. As a result, the customer should be taken care of at all times (Anibire et.al., 2020).
The study found that qualitative research methodologies were employed by the researcher to reach their goals. The scientist used secondary research strategies to gather data in a variety of ways, avoiding the negative parts of collecting and analysing data in order to focus on approaches that increase the originality and the reliability of the output results. Other academics’ data is also sought in the subjective chapter, so that students may learn from their own research (Ogunmakinde et.al., 2019). There were no quantitative or quantitative-qualitative methods used by the researcher.
Researchers may use a variety of strategies to accomplish their goals and create good findings. Various approaches include case studies, surveys, literature study, debate, observations and discussion groups. Using secondary books and papers effectively for scientific reasons is the greatest way to obtain the views, preconceptions, experiences, and opinions of different researchers in this specific study, according to the findings of this research.
Primary procedures such as questionnaires, case analysis, test-case and discussion groups are used to acquire new and refreshing information from respondents on a particular study subject. On the other hand, when underlining the parameters of exclusions of this research it was revealed that we did not employ hypothesis for assumptions as it was an important practical problem that actually impacted the individuals and their growth. Furthermore, it is incredibly necessary for researchers not only to develop proper criteria for inclusion and exclusion in the design of a study but also to examine how such decisions will effect the external reliability of the study results.

Therefore, from the above discussion regarding the number of challenges faced by the Nigerian construction industry in relation to project management, it has been concluded that Researchers found ways to strengthen the profession’s defences against forgeries. According to the authors, a regulatory organisation should be put in place to examine, monitor, and oversee standards for the profession and delivery platform of project management. Finally, it may be said that the location of a project has the primary effect on government planning choices.
Because of this, the researchers proposed that construction workers be required to undergo training and skill development programmes in order to improve their managerial talents, skills, and understanding. In order to maintain the profession and person up to date on global changes, such courses must be offered every year. National organisations and regulatory authorities engaged in construction practise should provide frequent seminars to teach members and conduct regular inspections of ongoing projects to verify that high standards are fulfilled by the practitioners (Kuzu and Durna, 2020). According to the results, government oversight and enforcement of standard mode is essential. Consequently, project management rules must be put in place by the government to encourage standards, execution, and to guarantee that erring experts are held accountable.
