Analyze how social practices have shaped our idea of wellness and how that idea of wellness has shaped social practices.
Wellness is considered as a multidimensional idea that is beyond the realm of mere physical health and wellbeing of an individual. Enhanced quality of life through following suitable mind-body interventions have culminated in wellness as part of societal practice showing potential of remedying circumstances through therapy (Tsang,et al., 2014).
Utilizing interdisciplinary approaches, explain how a topic discussed in this course has or has not shaped our idea of wellness.
The conventional and age-old practice to foster wellness has now been found to be replaced by relatively novel concepts of art and other interventions. Applicability of art has facilitated in influencing the emotional, spiritual and cognitive domain pertinent to an individual thereby triggering the perception of wellness more holistically.
Has an emphasis or lack of emphasis in society sparked change in the everyday behavior of individuals or societies?
According to my perceptions and professional experience, I feel the subjective wellbeing of a person has received new thrust with emphasis being laid upon insuring to ensure that financial loss do not come on the way for leading a satisfactory life. However, everyday behavior has also undergone major change with increased consciousness about the modes of improving health and wellbeing.
Analyze how wellness has influenced the behaviors and operations of individuals in your discipline of study.
In my professional pursuit as an insurance sales agent, I have encountered situations where people are more inclined to secure their future from unfavorable, untoward circumstances by resorting to health insurances. Thus, the wellness concept was essentially acknowledged through such behaviors and operations by the concept of health insurance that includes coverage for certain major ailments (Bhargava, Loewenstein & Sydnor, 2015).
Explain the positive and negative aspects associated with a topic that has been discussed in this course. Assess how emerging technologies have the potential to improve personal and societal wellness.
Positive/negative aspects of insurance: Health insurance has garnered the attention of a bulk of the population irrespective of their social ranking to allow for conferring protection against high medical expenditures that have challenged the lives of individuals through proper policy availability.
Emerging technologies:Advancement of science and technology has revolutionized techniques and procedures that might act to offer better quality of life through real time tracking and monitoring of health related parameters through appropriate gadgets, thereby mitigating chances of diseases or disorders (Levine, 2016).
Issue:
Using appropriate research strategies, describe a social or global issue that is related to wellness: What is the origin of the issue? What is the issue about?
The concept of wellness in this era of high competition has been associated with the rising levels of stress that in turn account for growing incidences of certain chronic lifestyle oriented diseases. A major causative factor for the arousal of stress in persons has been affixed to the inability to manage time. Lack of time management has often leads to the generation of stress in persons that pose threats to the health of persons. Research has confirmed the efficacy of the time management in reducing perceived stress in experimental groups compared to the control subjects (Häfner et al., 2014).
Using appropriate research strategies, describe the target population of the issue: Who is impacted by the issue? What is important to know about them?
Stress has engulfed the lives of everyone transcending the socio-economic status and age differences in regions across the globe. However, authentic and reliable sources have depicted that the youth are particularly vulnerable to fall victim to the ill effects of stress. Moreover, the student population is likely to succumb under the stressful situations and exhibit inconvenience to manage time. Relevant studies have stated that conduction of time management-training program as an intervention among the undergraduate students is capable of promoting wellbeing in the concerned population through amelioration of perceived stress. Thus, it is essential to probe deeper on the causes of stress for providing suitable remedies accordingly (Häfner, Stock & Oberst, 2015).
Using appropriate research strategies, explain how the chosen issue relates to a topic that has been discussed in this course: How can you connect the issue you have chosen with a topic that has been discussed in this course? How does it inform your understanding of the issue?
Wellness and health are two intimately allied terms that are also used interchangeably to describe the existing condition of a person. However, wellness is not an isolated concept, rather it stands for an integration of ideas that represents the holistic being of a person and recruits multi dimensions encompassing physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and environmental states (Nordenfelt, 2016). The topic of time management and stress is well associated with the central theme of wellness as jeopardize of the balance between the two variables might harbor adverse outcomes. Hence, I assume that my understanding of the issue is correct.
Using relevant research or diverse perspectives, assess how the chosen issue is impacting the target population.
Extensive studies carried out with respect to the vulnerable population of youth have estimated the escalating reports pertaining to mental health problems. Lack of time management skills have leaded to increase the levels of stress in the population that in turn further added to the agony. Hence, the promotion of mental health interventions has gained prominence in recent contexts whereby novel approaches and preventive interventions are suggested for deft handling of the situation. Thus it is quite evident that stress and dearth of time management have affected the target population of youth in a profound manner (Clarke, Kuosmanen & Barry, 2015).
Utilizing interdisciplinary approaches, predict how the chosen issue will or will not change in the future. Be sure to justify your prediction.
The wellness relevant to a society is dependent upon various factors that are intimately elated to one another. Youth being an important component of the society are likely to get affected by the adverse outcomes of stress that might culminate in generation of mental health issues in the susceptible group of young people. The burden of alcoholism and smoking has penetrated in the society affecting the youth particularly that further reaffirms the benefits of adopting stress and time management strategies to mitigate the problems (White & Hingson, 2014).
Plan:
Make recommendations for how the current issue could be addressed so that it no longer adversely affects the target population: What strategies or steps could be taken to help the individuals who are adversely affected by the chosen issue? How could these recommendations be implemented so that a new population is not adversely affected?
The issue pertinent to time management and stress in the youth population may be mitigated through adoption of definite strategies that include incorporation of physical activities especially aerobic exercises, mediation and other mindfulness based programs. Inclusion of these strategies into the educational curriculum might offer benefits.
Explain the strategies that could be utilized to address the chosen issue.
Address of the chosen issue may be undertaken by employing prudent approaches whereby the root cause will be targeted to offer remedy. Exercise, meditation will induce positive physiological changes that in turn will allow for uplift of mood thereby reducing stress. Further, proper nutrition and support from expert professionals will foster remedy of the situation.
Imagine you are in charge of addressing the chosen issue. Utilizing interdisciplinary approaches, explain how you would implement your plan.
In case I have been entrusted with responsibility of addressing the issue I would make it mandatory for all the students to invest quality time in physical activities as part of their educational curriculum to better manage their time, reduce stress concurrently, and monitor their mental health status subsequently.
Explain the benefits of your plan and justify why your plan would be preferable. Be sure to support your justification with relevant research or individual perspectives.
The positive aspects of regular participation in physical activities have been found to be beneficial across various independent studies (Romas & Sharma, 2017). Participation in exercise will encourage the students to break the monotony and aid in the holistic development through enhancement of their physical and mental health thereby contributing to the wellness.
