Multiplex as a company came into existence in the early 1962s, it is a world renowned and one of the largest construction, engineering and an infrastructure company. At present, Multiplex employees over 3750 people and is spread across India, Canada, Europe and the Middle East (Bryan et. al., 2017). The USP of the company is its massive and sturdy construction of High rise buildings, stadiums, high end residential properties, education, health and civil infrastructure, which are turning the heads of other developers across the globe. Few of the noteworthy projects of the company include Wembley Stadium in London, Queen Elizabeth University in Glasgow and many more(Chan & Martek, 2017).

The assignment 2 is based on creation and analysis of a personal SWOT which then has to be studied in context of the fitment with the organization, which I this case is Multiplex. The report in order to give a comprehensive understanding of the personal strengths would conduct an MBTI test to further substantiate the arguments in the discussion part of the report. Other objectives of the report here is to include the use of three naturally occurring data, assessment of self by peers, critical discussion of the improvement plan, assessing the fitment in Multiplex organization.
The section here will discuss how these three naturally occurring data can be used at its optimum best to contribute to the organization and be a right fit for it.
Multiplex is a global business organization, therefore conversation always holds a paramount importance at the workplace. I have a role to play in the sales department at the business organization, a department which has to engage with every other department in the business organization. Thus, conversation is of prime importance to my Job role. Conversation helps in better understanding the customers or the internal stakeholders and keeping every person on the same page (Marlow et. al., 2016).
Conversation ensures that the goals of the organization are being communicated in an effective manner to the employees in the business organization. Thus, for the attainment of the organizational goals, conversations are really important. For instance, whenever I go on a business meeting, my prime goal is to engage my client in the conversation which would result in certain business for my company, leading to achievement of the goals. Thus, it is highly advisable for one to engage in business communication and conversation either in a documented or a verbal format, but the conversation has to keep going smoothly
Email, is another form of communication or conversation in the business environment. It is important for a person to really understand the importance and nuance of effective email writing in order to communicate the message effectively. It becomes a difficult task to have the right impact on the receiver in accordance to the intent of the message. Email communication helps in documenting the conversation and serve as a good source of remembrance in the future. I personally ensure that I mark email to my client post my meetings and discussion with them, this creates a top of the mind recall while they are looking forward to make a purchase (Slager, 2015)
Artefacts are also commonly called as the visible aspects of the organization. Artefact was created by Schein who divided the culture on three distinct levels such as artefacts, values and assumptions. I am of the opinion that artefacts of the organization helps in showing the obvious elements of the organization, thus helping in recognition of the company. Appreciation and usage of Artefacts helps in influencing the customers as it provides them with assurance about the business organization (Shortt, 2015).
SWOT analysis is a strategic tool which is used by the business organization to ascertain its strength and weakness in the industry. The model due to its simplicity can also be extended to Personal lives of an individual, thus the section here will illustrate my SWOT analysis:
Strength · Strong verbal communication skills. · Cognitive understanding. · Fast decision making. · Good Persuasion Skills. · Strong and confident personality. · Fast learner · Proficient usage of business technology. · Openness in communication. |
Weakness · Stage fear or public speaking. · Conflict resolution · Negotiation handling · At times, less of a team player and more of an individual member. · Lack or insufficient understanding of Leadership qualities. · No work life balance |
Opportunity · Growth in the Infrastructure and construction section. · Multiplex look ahead to march into new geographical boundaries. · Increasing salaries in the sector. · Opening up of senior Position at Multiplex. · Opportunity to be a part of job enlargement and job rotation at Multiplex. |
Threats · Need to develop my skill pertaining to the sector and in sales. · Increasing competition from Peers. · Threat from the experienced personal in the industry. |
SWOT analysis gives a clear reflection on my strength and weakness which are internal to me and can be worked upon. The opportunity and threat are external to my span of control; therefore the efforts have to be in leveraging the opportunity and being proactive to stay away from the threats.
For instance, as I see that my strength is in communication, I am better suited for the role where I get valued for my communication skills, thus the job role of sales at Multiplex is the right fit for me.
My weakness lies in my negotiation and public speaking, therefore I have to work upon these weaknesses in order to justify my position at my business organization.
In terms of opportunity, Multiplex and other infra companies are growing and expanding rapidly, this opens up new avenues for my growth in business organization. The only threat which I see impacting me is the presence of experienced personal, which have better understanding, knowledge and have a nuance of the market. Thus, I have to keep working on brushing my existing skills and pick up the new skills to excel at my job role at Multiplex.
At Multiplex we have a culture and a system of 360 degree Performance management system, under which we are assessed, evaluated and monitored round the year. The assessment is taken from the team and the managers, and it gives an overall evaluation of the employee.
My peers are of the opinion that I am a very hard working person who is committed to the goals of the organization. However they are of the opinion that I lose track of time while working on a project which creates a disruption in my personal life. They also say that I am a very open person and have good relationship building skill, primarily due to my open nature and an easy going attitude and also my communication skills. Another weakness which my peers pointed was that I am more of an individual player, and I am mostly concerned with the fulfilment of my own goals, rather than the team goals.
Feedback of my managers is somewhat similar to that of my Peers. My managers too think that I am a dedicated and committed employee who wants to learn everything at once and get going. This does not prove beneficial for me every single time, and I miss out on an opportunity due to this nature of mine, which is curious in nature.
Thus, analysing the feedback of the Peers and Managers in the next section I will discuss about my fitment with Multiplex.
Culture of Multiplex is dominated by three things:
I, working in the capacity of a sales executive at Multiplex am always working hard to perform with enhanced productivity in order to meet my goals. This definitely points towards my efforts in the direction of attaining professional excellence, thus being a right fit for the organization.
The culture of Multiplex is flat, and there is an open door policy in the workplace. This is ably reciprocated by me, as I understand the importance of openness in communication and pursue the same in all my business transaction. This goes on to reflect that I am in alignment with the culture of the business organization.
As mentioned earlier in the SWOT analysis that I am a fast learner and I am always yearning to learn and consume more knowledge from my professional development. This is a harbinger towards my goal of sustainability, which is perfectly aligned with the culture of the organization. Thus, keeping all the points in consideration, I am a perfect fit for the organization as well the job role, however, I need to work towards my skill development to give impetus to my organizational performance.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI can be understood as an introspective self -report questionnaire with the aim of identifying and indicating the differing psychological preferences as to how people perceive the world around them and take their decisions (Furnham, 2017). This will further help me in identifying the areas for personal and professional development.
The figure above shows that my assessment of MBTI is INTP, which stands for Intuitive (9%), Introvert (44%), Thinking (6%) and Perceiving (19%). I personally believe that MBTI indicated the right personality traits for me. The same can be shown by examining the personality traits:
Thus, the MBTI further enunciated with my personal belief that I am on the right path in my professional journey.
In my professional journey, I have created goals for myself, which also acts as my learning for success. Those three elements of success in my professional life which I always look up to while working towards self and continuous improvement are:
Conclusion
Self-reflection is one of the strongest attribute which helps the individual to delve within himself and identify the traits, characteristic, behavioural understanding of oneself. I have been working with Multiplex in the capacity of sales executive, and my job role requires me to meet with a lot of people, and also to build relationship with them. Both these qualities are inept in me as I understand the rationale of the above mentioned qualities. I am of the opinion that a SWOT analysis helps in identifying the strength and weakness of the individual and an individual by playing on their strength can make the most of the opportunity provided to him.
