Background
Cultural intelligence and capability are critical aspects that help to enhance the performance of a person at a work place. For one to be culturally capable, one has to learn about issues to do with cultural capability and the concepts that are necessary in studying cultural awareness. Cultural capability is founded on understanding the ideas of religion, culture, people and how they relate to ideas and people around culture.
The main purpose of this research paper is to explain ways through which cultural capability can be embraced. The report will focus on expounding on the two variables of cultural intelligence and capability to develop a meaning for the work and the need for cultural competency at work. The concept of cultural intelligence and factors related to it such as the factors constituting to it will be developed to develop a better understanding of the concepts of the relationship.
The scope of the paper will focus mainly on the concept of cultural capability and cultural intelligence. The scope of the paper will also expound on cultural intelligence and capability through explaining the Movie Seven Pounds. The movie or rather video will help to expound on the concept of conflict and ways of expressing conflict as a form of interaction among people.
Summary
The film Seven Pounds is a movie based on a social setting that focusses on the life of one man named Tim. Tim after a drunk driving accident that cost the life of seven people takes up to a journey of atonement to try and compensate for the lives of the people he killed while drunk. The movie depicts a cross cultural theme and different setting that explains the different actions that take place in the movie (Muccino, 2008). Through the experiences of the author with different persons the movie raises issues of cultural capability and intelligence as it focusses on how Tim relates with people. The scene is about compassion, care and empathy of a man who is seeking to make reforms. The movie depicts cross-cultural interaction as it explains the major variations that are to do with people and how different cultures relate.
Observations
The events in the movie show various factors such as activities and the interaction between people and activities that relate to the people concerned. The events serve as an indicator of the key aspects of cultural competency covered in the movie. The activities movement and travels of the main character Tim depict a broken man who is not proud of his life and is seeking to make amends (Emily, 2012). Through his body language and choice of words it appears that the man is still healing from the effect of the aftermaths of the accident he caused. The author also provides different varied reasons on how people relate and the events that take place among people in life. The producer uses the use soundtracks and music to further enhance the message of pain and sadness. The mood is the movies hence appears to suit the description of somber.
The actions, words and events in the movie show the presence of cultural intelligence. There is cultural intelligence because of the fact that the people in the movie though start off as strangers end up interacting in a mature professional way that appeals to people (Moon, 2010). Tim engages people from different cultures such as Asians, Native American white people and also African American people. Given that he is an African person Tim depicts maturity and hence cultural intelligence. Through cultural intelligence the person manages to reach cultural competency and achieve strategic success in the growth of his personal self.
Culture is broken down into different minor subsections such as cultural safety, cultural capabilities and cultural intelligence. To effectively analyze the space one should seek to conduct an assessment on how the factors relate and the criteria for the assessment. Cultural intelligence borrows widely from the concept of cultural capabilities that helps to come up with the right means to enhance a relationship between people. People are inherently different because of the sharing of varied ideas and concepts in life. For one to formulate a relationship therefore it appears ideal to seek to develop means through which the distance between two parties can be bridged to encourage a close relationship. Whereas culture is said to divide people further and make it difficult to interact, the use of constant communication and commitment among people helps to communicate the right information on issues of relationships and people. enhancing a close relationship has to rely on cultural intelligence which talks about learning about the culture of others and accepting the culture of others as it is to avoid any conflicts. A person should avoid any form of attempts to change the other person in any single way.
Cultural safety is about accepting the culture of others and embracing it to avoid making any form of changes that may affect a specific person in life. Based on the space in the movie there is safety because of the lack of conflict among people. However, Tim appears to be having a conflict with himself showing that it is unsafe as he tries to commit suicide. The act of attempted suicide means that he is not happy with the life that he is leading therefore has field to embrace is self-awareness and cultural traits. The author however focuses on safety shows thorough the interactions among people and the steps put in place to regulate the conduct among people. There is order and harmony among people as well as unity. People tend to be in a good mood, understanding the thoughts of each other and developing concepts of peace and coexistence.
Depresion plays a huge role in the clip because of the way it guides the characters. The first person that suffers from depression is Tim as a result of causing an accident that led to the death of seven people including his wife. To bring redemption to what he has done, he decides to donate some parts of his people to seven people. However, for his plan to be properly executed, the people that he has to dionate to must be good people. In addition, Tim loses his passion for aeronautical engineering as a result of depression (Phillips, 2008). There are also some instances where he has thoughts of killing himself showing the depressions levels that he had experienced. The case of depression that Tim faces is that of both major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. Major depressive disorder is apparent from the movies when he does not live a normal life ion the last two years of his life. On the other hand, Bipolar disorder is shown when there is intense and rapid shifts of his mood in the film. The clip is a good example of showing how depression can affect someone in the way it changes Tim’s life and he cannot to cope with the normal circumstances again (Myers, 2011).
The aberrant behavior shown by the characters in the clip is as a result of Psot-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The characteristics of the disorder are nightmares, social withdrawals and insomnia. The traumatic experiences as a result of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can come as a result of severe injury or physical injury. The disorder usually occurs to a person when they start having flashbacks or memories of something bad that took place in their lives (Ipser, & Stein, 2011). Tim does not only suffer from depression but has instances of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. There is a place where the memory of the accident he caused that killed his wife haunts him. The change in his goals and relationmships show a person that has lost interest in life and this can be attributed to the deaths of the seven people he caused. Furthermore, he becomes abrasive in the way he treats others as well as suffers a heightened sensitivity to the suffering of others.
From the clip, it can be shown that the main character, Tim portrays instances of both depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Both of the psychological disorders can be witnessed as a result of the unusual nehavior that the character undergoes through. Through the knowledge of the differenty symptoms related to te disorders, it can be shown that Tim portrays the symptoms of both depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
There are specific situations in the movie that can be changed through cultural capabilities by teaching people to formulate ways on how to relate with other people. The relationship of people will grow depending on the way cultural capabilities are used. The most effective recommendation therefore, would be to segregate people on cultural and ethnic lines to encourage people to be responsible in certain ways. Through allocating people to certain specific ways it will be easier for people who are related or originate from a given culture to relate responsibly in life. People from different cultures are known by certain specific traits that should be brought out in the movie as covered in the story. The changes in the scenes should succeed each other systematically as well. There will, therefore, be sequential flow to help keep viewers glued to the scenes and remain in an anticipatory form to see new activities and also connect the events taking place in the movie.

To conclude, the ideas in the paper have borrowed from different literature which has helped to relate the key variables in the paper which are cultural intelligence and capability. Through the movie Seven Pounds the paper has bridged the gap between the two variables to provide a succinct explanation as to why it is important for cultural intelligence to embrace the use of cultural capabilities. The paper appears to enforce the ideas of cultural intelligence and how it is important in communication and ways through which cultural interaction can be made to communicate key specific ideas.
