Students are to research and select a Rock and Roll album from a band or artiste whose life, music and creativity made an impact upon the generation that they were in and beyond. Students are to choose SIX songs from one or different albums but from the same artiste/band and write about what makes each song so popular.
This assignment should include: (1) The description of the artiste/band & it’s achievements. It should be at least 250 words + photos. (2) The review of SIX songs with minimum 250 words per song. (3) Photos of the artiste/band that will enhance the overall presentation. (4) Citations / references where the materials are being taken from. As a guide, to score a good grade for this assignment, students are advised to write more on subject matters related to point (A) to score higher marks) and max 30% on subject matters from point (B) as these won’t help you to score better marks.
Point A (higher marks) Point B (lower marks) More personal expressions, self-reflections, own opinions and feelings about the subjects & issues brought up from the lyric. Direct transcription or interpretation of the lyric. Description about the music video Description in the music components eg; genre, the musical instruments used & structure of the song. Highlighting the success of the song, eg; winning awards, top of the chart, used in television shows, games, movies · etc.
Providing reviews that are copied/paraphrased from wikipedia or online sources. “In the course of doing your assignments, you will probably use extracts from articles or books, quotations, lyrics, lines of a poem, illustrations, graphics, photographs, audio samples, or material downloaded from the Internet. It is perfectly ok to use these materials in your assignments but you must provide the citations / references where these materials are being taken from. Failing which marks will be deducted from your assignments. Assignment Submission Requirement: In softcopy only following the proper labelling stated below: (1) Label the file name as 7HROCK_Assign3_T0X(your class group)_your name(how you are being called in class). (2) No blank spacing but includes “UNDERSCOREs” in between texts. (3) Submit both Words & PDF file, max 3MB each, send as separate files & do not zip them. (4) No need to email your assignment to your tutor. (5) Submit into the “Specific folder” created for your class through Safe Assign Safe Assign Submission on MELSubmission on MEL before 5pm on the date specify by your tutor. Feel free to email your tutor if you have any enquiry or seek changes to your assignment, you also require to label your email subject exactly the same name as your file name “7HROCK_Assign3_T0X_XXX”. (Marks will be deducted if you failed to follow the proper labelling of the files & email subject as stated above) Late Assignments For each day past the deadline, 10% of the total marks will be deducted up to a maximum of five days including Sat & Sun, after which a zero mark will be given. Pro-rate penalty will be imposed, eg; 2 hours late = 1%.
