08 is considered illegal. A criminal offense would be Driving While Intoxicated, which is a Class B misdemeanor. 2. Some states like Texas, have raised the offense degrees dealing with alcohol. If a BAC greater than . 15 is traced, it enhanced the misdemeanor to a class A- which is “the most serious classification of misdemeanor in most states”.
B. The death rate of people consuming alcohol is at an all-time high. Knowing that alcohol is a leading cause of deaths in the United States why is it still legal? 1. II. Not only does alcohol cause motor vehicle related deaths, it also has effects on the body. A. Extended alcohol abuse can cause blood conditions including several forms of anemia and blood clotting abnormalities. 1. Prolonged alcohol use can also impair white blood cell function and thus makes the abuser more likely to become infected. B. 2. Additionally, intense vomiting from excessive drinking can tear the esophagus. III. Alcohol, like any other drug, can become addictive. Alcoholism is just as hard overcoming as any illegal street drug. A. Alcoholism has little to do with what kind of alcohol one drinks, how long one has been drinking, or even exactly how much alcohol one consumes. But it has a great deal to do with a person’s uncontrollable need for alcohol. 1. He or she is frequently in the grip of a powerful craving for alcohol, a need that can feel as strong as the natural need for food or water. 2.
While some people are able to recover without help, the majority of alcoholic individuals need outside assistance to recover from their disease and sometimes getting the outside help doesn’t even work and they just turn back to their addiction. B. People who heavily drink alcohol can find themselves trying to deal with Alcohol Abuse. 1. Alcohol abuse differs from alcoholism in that it does not include an extremely strong craving for alcohol, loss of control, or physical dependence.
2. While alcohol abuse is basically different from alcoholism, it is important to note that many effects of alcohol abuse are also experienced by alcoholics. Conclusion Knowing all the facts about alcohol and its effects on the body, it is still legal to consume to this day. Why? Why are we allowing a substance that has such a high crime, death and health risk that is also easily purchased for all Americans over the age of 21? There has to be a stopping point in this matter. Think back about the family who lost their family members in a car accident and the Brad who thought he was just having simple fun but turned for the worst.
