In the current business scenario, companies struggle many issues to generate competitive benefit with respect to enhance the growth of business in future. Organizations are facing higher competition in local as well as international market caused by the digitalization and globalization. In rapidly changing industries, organizations are dependent on the innovative approach to create and keep their competitive benefits (Gretzel, et al., 2015). In the current business period, the organization uses innovative techniques for managing higher competitive benefits. Open data could consider as the government information and machine-readable data which could be available for everyone as it would be imperative for managing the consumers at international level. In the business period, organizations and individuals depend on the open data because it offers a new technique for innovation in the business (Ojo, et al., 2015). This report concentrates on the open data and evaluations and how it will be executed in the companies. This report discusses how business could be innovative by applying the open data. Moreover, different recommendations would be presented in the report for businesses to execute the open data for promoting business innovation.
The main aim of this research is to address the impact of open data on the business operation. The following objectives will be used by the researcher to attain the specified aim of research:
The major scope of this research is to gain the understanding about the role of open data in the business innovation. This project supports to examine different kinds of literature in with respect to make innovation in the business by using the open data. It enables the organization to gain their understanding of business innovation that assist them in addressing the market gaps and developing new goods and services to create competitive benefits. The researcher also gain their best understanding about business innovation and open data caused of using many academic journals for completing their research.
The innovation could play an imperative role in the business growth. The innovation role is growing among companies for getting the higher competitive benefit. Moreover, organizations use strategic policies for enchasing the innovation level in the organization and gain efficiency as it would support the organization to get the competitive benefit. In addition, it is also analyzed that different organizations use open data with respect to develop innovative goods and services, which could support to fill the gap and creates income and obtain economic, social, and environmental advantages (Jung and Park 2015). It can also be summarized that open data could be information that could freely accessible by the public without any restricts of copyrights and patents. It is also evaluated that open data is growing that enhance in intellectual property rights. It is also analyzed that the application of open data is enchased caused by enhancement of internet and online based services. The launch of different open data government initiatives considers Data. gov, Data. gov. in the open data as it would be supportive to increase the popularity of open data (Davies and Perini, 2016). For illustration Barack Obama on oath as the president of us on January 2009 and he used memorandum transparency and open government that concentrates on approving the government data transparency. In addition, it is also analyzed that these initiatives supported open data for the use of public and organization as it would supported to promote the business innovation. Open data could assist in creating the $3.2 trillion to $5.4 trillion in the value of economic (Lee, et al., 2015). Many organizations use open data culture by opening their information for the general public as it would support to make transparent relationship among consumers and organization. Consequently, the organization would be capable to obtain higher competitive benefits. For illustration, BBC launched a programme in 2014 called BBC things that offer the opportunity to everyone for accessing the information of organization (Hossain, 2015). As a result, company obtain higher competitive befits. This software encouraged developers to execute the BBC software by applying the semantic and linked data that facilitates consumer to develop combine of application with different open data sources. It is also evaluated the BBC programme was successful in offering possible of the open data technique. It is also found that approximately 84% of US people use mobile software that dependent on the open data that endorse for business innovation. The advancement of technique could support the organization collecting, share, and manage the open data. It aids organization to fuelling the business innovation as it would support to overcome issues of business in least time and cost (Zuiderwijk, et al., 2015). In addition, it is also analysed that there are many organizations that have already used open government data with respect to enhance business innovation and change in needs and demands of consumers. It is also illustrated that Starbucks has collaborated with Esri that is geospatial knowledge firm with respect to create the business intelligence structure called Atlas. It is also evaluated that the structure is based on government data and the organization use it to create highly cultured consumers promoting policies (Susha, et al., 2015). Starbucks imply demographic information that is gathered from the smartphones number with respect to identify which mobile software discount could more impactful. Thus, it is also illustrated that organisation could imply the technique that could be more effective for Frappuccino promotions.
The research design provides appropriate instruction to complete their research. The research methodology could involve many techniques that support to obtain feasible information about current research concern.
Chart 1: Qualitative research process
(Sources: Taylor, et al., 2015).
The qualitative research involves many stages in the research like discovering research concern, make planning, evaluate criteria for recruitment, discussion rules, and regulation, and make a final report by using focus strategy. These steps could support to effectively operate research process and obtain a feasible outcome. Initially, researchers discover the idea of research matter and make an appropriate plan (Taylor, et al., 2015). After the completion of the first step, a researcher could evaluate the criteria for recruitment and selection of workforces. Subsequently, the researcher has made discussion guide and homework about the design of research aim and objectives. In last, a researcher could determine their focus group for making a final report (Mackey and Gass, 2015).
The inductive approach is more appropriate as compared to deductive approach because it facilitates the researcher to collect theoretical understanding towards the current research matter. The inductive approach will also facilitate the research scholar to get a reliable and valid result in the context of current research matter (Lewis, 2015).
Sampling is a technique that enables the researcher to select appropriate sample size for performing their research (Vaioleti, 2016). In addition, the researcher has practiced non-probability sampling method that facilitates the researcher to select candidates on the basis of age, gender, sex, education, race, and experience. The investigator has selected 5 IT manager of different organization for collecting their opinion and views towards the business innovation through open data.
For this study, the researcher has used primary data collection method. It will be effective to collect the feasible information with respect to current research matter. The primary information could be fathered by interview and survey through questionnaire method (Smith, 2015). Through this method, reliable and a valid data will be obtained by the research scholar.
In the research study, two kinds of valuables are considered like independent and dependent variables. For this research issue, the researcher has identified two variables like business innovation and open data where the independent variables open data while dependent variable ids business innovation (Alvesson and Sköldberg, 2017).
Chart 2: Quantitative research process
(Sources: Alvesson and Sköldberg, 2017)
Primarily, the researcher would try to identify the problem and purpose of the research for operating the business process. Afterward, the researcher would make hypothesis and research question in the context of research matter. The researcher has developed a conceptual framework by considering various non-numerical sources like a book, journals, magazines, and online & offline sources (Dudovskiy, 2016). Later, research design and sampling method will be selected by the researcher to operate the research process. Moreover, ethical norms could also be imperative to conduct appropriate behavior in research as it would facilitate to collect appropriate research outcome. Besides this, data collection, data analysis, discussion, and budgeting could be imperative for operating the business and obtain the reliable result (Alvesson and Sköldberg, 2017).
The researcher has used the secondary data collection method to gain the theoretical knowledge towards the current research matter. There are different sources that could be entailed by the researcher like academic journal, annual report, government publication, online websites, and magazines. This technique would be imperative for the researcher to get quality research outcome (McCusker and Gunaydin, 2015).
Chart 3: Quantitative data analysis process
(Sources: Dumay and Cai, 2015).
Initially, the researcher would prepare data for operating the research activity and attain their aim. Afterward, the researcher has capable to clean the information as per requirement. In this, Ms-excel software will be practiced by the researcher by considering graphs, table, and charts. In last, this method enables the researcher to interoperate collected information and recommend for improving the whole research (Dumay and Cai, 2015).
The probability sampling method could be imperative for selecting candidates on a random basis. It would support to eliminate the biased result from the research (Lushey and Munro, 2015). For operating the research process, the researcher has selected 60 employees of IT organization and operate their research process for collecting opinion towards the research questionnaire.
In the research study, the reliability of data demonstrates the trustworthiness of study. Moreover, validity is used to examine the feasibility of study as it would be evaluated by considering quantitative data (Marczyk, et al., 2017).
There are certain elements that would negatively impact on the quality of research outcomes like lack of resources, targeted time, and targeted cost. It can also be stated that lack of resources could mandate the investigator to complete their research in an available resource that could influence the quality of research outcome (Khaki, 2016). In addition, the primary data collection method could take the time that could also negatively impact on the research. In last, the secondary data collection method could be costly that would decline the possibility of getting quality research outcome (Azhdarzadeh, et al., 2015).
The research time frame will also be used by the researcher to determine the appropriate time for each research activity completion as it would be discussed by following Gantt chat:
Conclusion
With respect to the above discussion, it can be summarized that open data is practiced by the organization to create innovation in the business. It could also be imperative to fulfill the gaps in the consumer market and make innovative policies as it would be imperative for getting the higher competitive benefit. The open data movement is led by the initiative of the government to make open government and enhance availability for the general public. It can also be summarized that open data could also be a negative impact on the enhancement of cyber risk, data culture promotion, and national risk.
