In the current scenario, after the introduction of modern technology in the health care industry, it has brought the revolutionary changes in the health care industry (Wang, Kung & Byrd, 2018). It has been identified that healthcare professionals, government initiatives and policy markets have actively involved themselves for improving the performance standard in Australian Healthcare sector. Due to the increasing growth in the Australian healthcare industry the employment rate of this country has been influenced by its career opportunities.
The purpose of the study is to shed light on the current contribution of the Australian health care industry in employment rate. Analyzing the current labour market growth in the healthcare industry, the career opportunities have been highlighted. The study has also shed light on the possible impact of the increasing market in the case of influencing the economic growth of the country. Highlighting the two sectors occupational preferences in the healthcare industry has been discussed. At the end of the study, depending on the intercultural challenges of the sector, the study has provided the measurable recommendations that can help in the case of dealing with the challenges.
2. Discussion:
2.1 Trends of Australian labour market:
Analyzing the rate of employment in health care industry in Australia, it can be said that in between the year 2016 and 2017, the rate of employee involvement in the heath care sector has increased 1.2% (Lmip.gov.au, 2018). After analyzing the current growth trend in the Australian healthcare industry, it can be said that in the year 2014, the Australian health care service has ranked sixth in the global health care industry.
On the other hand it is true that it is maintaining its constant no 1 position in the OECD for the better life index. If the future opportunity in the Australian market is being analyzed, it will be identified that the excellent healthcare system has brought various opportunities for the population. It can be said that with the effective policy direction as well as the care management practices the Australian healthcare practice has effectively contributed in the Australian economy. With the increasing economic contribution, growth in the labour market has clearly shown.
It has been identified that near about 13.4% of the total workforce have involved themselves in the health care sectors (Wakerman et al. 2017). After analyzing the growth rate in last five years it has been identified that employment rate has increased 22.6%. With the increasing employment rate, the male and female contribution in the sector has reached 20.6% and 79.4% (Lmip.gov.au, 2018).
Therefore, it can be said that in the healthcare sector, the contribution of the female employees are quite higher than the male employees. In order to deal with the diversified labour market, various management policies have been introduced. Depending on the rapid growth in the healthcare sector, it can be said that it has brought various career opportunities for the near future. In the labour market analysis, it has been assumed that in the coming 2022, the rate of employment will increase near about 16% in the health care sector (Lmip.gov.au, 2018). It can be said that in the near future he industry will bring various opportunities for the employees.
2.2 Healthcare sectors and occupation:
2.2.1 Community health:
Community health is being considered as one of the popular medical science study sector, which mainly focuses on health improvement, heath protection and maintenance of the health service standard for the communities (Delany et al., 2015). In this community heath practices the health characteristics and behaviour of the biological communities are being improved. It indicates the entire geographical area not individual people. As per my qualification, using my health care knowledge as well as the interpersonal skills, I will be able to interact with the people in an effective manner.
I believe, in most of the cases the community healthcare services are being provided to the target population. In such situation using my leadership qualities I will be able to manage the entire health care practices in an effective manner. As per my qualification, I believe I will be able to perform as the health and wellness service provider as I have strong knowledge regarding the healthcare services and using my interpersonal skills I can easily interact with the people and my staffs.
In terms of career opportunities in the community heath sector, it can be said that in the current scenario, the government has introduced various policies as well as different designations for the employees in health care sector. The short term goal of mine is to service in the sector by overcoming the linguistic and cultural barriers on the other hand log term goal of mine is to improve my leadership qualities for achieving the higher position. I believe, in this sector with the personal development, the professional development of mine can be done in an effective manner.
2.2.2 Aged care:
Residential aged care has become one of the popular services in Australia. The service is being provided to the aged people who do not live at home (Rainsford et al., 2018). As a health care service provider, the role of mine is to provide emergency service to the people, who are disable and suffering from illness in the aged care homes. The aged care homes are being considered as the independent living units where the short term care is being provided.
As I have discussed before that the short term goal of mine is to survive in the industry, therefore, I can say that in the case of aged care I may not face much difficulties. On the other hand, it is true that here I will be able to learn about my duties in the emergency situation. On the other hand I believe, I will be able to communicate with the aged patients in proper manner so that they can feel free to discuss their problems with me. I believe, not only the physical improvement as a health care service provider the metal support is also very important. Depending on the lesion, which will get from this sector, will help me to achieve my long term goal.
2.3 Intercultural challenges:
The intercultural challenges that an international student of healthcare sector has to face are as follows:
While dealing with the stakeholders within healthcare centres the professionals have to face immense cultural barriers. The service users are from other cultural backgrounds (Busse, Aboneh & Tefera, 2014). Their way of approach, their psychological beliefs and thoughts differ from one person to another. In this kind of situation, as an international student the service user may have to face immense difficulties in interacting with the stakeholders and providing their necessary services.
As already stated, the service users are from various religious backgrounds. Therefore, as an international student the person needs to have in-depth knowledge and experience on how to gain the impression of service users even though they belong to different cultural backgrounds and psychological attitudes (Cameron, Lart Bostock & Coomber, 2014). However, religious barrier is one of the most significant factors due to which professionals have to face challenges within workplace as well. While taking any kind of business decision, the beliefs and perceptions vary from one particular person to another. As a result, business managers have to face immense challenges in taking effective participative decision.
Linguistic barrier is a major challenge that an international student has to face after being associated with healthcare services. People of various cultural backgrounds use various accents and dialects while serving people (Wiener et al., 2015). As a result, as a professional international students have to face difficulties in understanding the language of service users. Consequently, they are not getting proper services from the professionals. This kind of linguistic barrier creates a major challenge in maintaining business image and reputation.
On the other hand, intercultural communication has become a serious challenge for the service users of healthcare industry especially. However, as professional international students do not have multi-lingual flexibility. Neither, they are well accustomed with both verbal and non-verbal communication (Al-Abri & Al-Balushi, 2014). As a result, service users being unable to communicate with the professionals properly tend to show their reluctant attitude in using the services of those healthcare services.
Due to intercultural approach and language barriers, psychology differs among the stakeholders. At the time of any kind of group meeting within the organization the service providers have to face immense challenges in getting a proper solution within business due to psychological barriers (Kitapci, Akdogan & Dortyol, 2014). Values and beliefs differ from one person to another. As an international student professional may have to face difficulties in getting accustomed with the values and thoughts of regional people. As result, both the services users and the service providers are getting affected due to psychological barriers.
As opined by Weller, Boyd and Cumin (2014), intercultural barrier is a major issue in providing effective services within healthcare industry. International students in order to become professional within healthcare industry have to face difficulties in being well habituated with business environment (Hall et al., 2014). Intercultural barriers can be overcome after taking effective initiatives.
2.4 Recommendations: (Option 1)
The three organizations that can be approached for being a part of this organization include Myagedcare, Regis Aged Care and Cranbrook Care.
Rationale of being a part of these organizations:
Career goal as per academic background:
As per my personal career background I have completed my degree in healthcare services where I had special courses on aged care. Therefore, these kinds of workplaces which provide services to the old persons would be very much beneficial for me. I can understand the psychology of old aged personalities. Naturally, I would be able to fulfil their needs and demands by proving effective services.
Values alignment:
After selecting aged care design as a path of my career I have created a value of serving old aged personalities with proper care and affection. As a result, they would not feel of being deprived from the society.
Proximity to available transport:

It is observed that aged care and community health sector provides a career path to those students who have completed their higher education in healthcare services.
The study has analyzed that religious barrier is one of the most significant factors due to which professionals have to face challenges within workplace as well. While dealing with the stakeholders within healthcare centres the professionals have to face immense cultural barriers. On the other hand it is also undeniable that professional international students have to face difficulties in understanding the language of service users. However, based on the challenges identified throughout the study in international communication some of the major recommendations have also been provided.
