Every organization big or small require a bunch of leaders that have the skills which help in motivating and encouraging the employee to work with their full capabilities and potential. The leaders should possess the charisma that should help in encouraging the employees to fulfill the vision of the leaders and to follow them, ultimately helping in accomplishing the objectives and goals of the organization. There is a huge difference between managing the employees and leading the employee. Leaders are considered as the heart of a business and managers are considered as the brains of a business. They do have to work in collaboration and in the absence of anyone the organization suffers majorly. Leaders are an inspirational character in the business, this is crucial as they have the responsibility of continuously pushing the workforce to do better and to create an environment in the workplace which is positive and encouraging. Also, with the various uncertainties that are associated with a business, the morale of the workforce, many a time is deflated and in such circumstances, it is important that the leader exhibits that traits that uplift the morale and showcases the employee with the huge amount of hope. This is all that which is required currently at the Serenity Hotel and Spa Group in the United Kingdom. The organization currently has a workforce that has a very low morale and due to it many of the employees have left the job and some of them are on the edge to leave too. The organization has also faced a lot of uncertainty due to the implementation of Brexit and the different changes that has affected the organization management has also affected the morale of the employees and also the leaders of the organization who are finding it difficult to manage the workforce effectively and to encourage them to work with their full potential.
In the current scenario at the Serenity Hotel & Spa Group, the organization is facing huge problems due to the implication of Brexit. This immediately had an impact on the workforce working and their movement. It means that due to the implementation of Brexit, the employees who are working in the organization and belong to the foreign nationals, have to leave the job in the current circumstances, as per the new policies that have been issued under the Brexit. This restructuring of the organization has impacted the workforce immensely. In the United Kingdom, 43% of the hotel industry is made up of foreign workers (Barjaktarovic and Pindzo, 2016). The organization Serenity Hotel & Spa Group has suffered a lot due to this, as this ended in the loss of five employees who were one of the top leaders of the organization. In the absence of some of the crucial leaders of the organization, the rest of the workforce felt disengaged, undervalued, and also unhappy. The employee does not have their leaders, who they use to look at and get inspired from. The other issue that has emerged in the organization, that the leaders who are currently present in the organization does not possess the right attitude towards the employees and have treated them unfairly, reducing their morale to very low. Also, the leaders have failed at retaining the current workforce with many of the employees openly stating to leave the job for another one (Chapparamani, 2012).
All these challenges associated with the leadership are majorly happening as the organization failed to manage with the various uncertainties that emerged due to the implementation of Brexit. The restriction on the movement of the workforce has affected the working conditions at the organization that ultimately lead to the restructuring. But the organization did not plan on better alternatives that would help in leading the employees in a better way (Dalati, 2015). Also, the leaders are responsible for uplifting the morale of the workforce, but the conditions in the organization worsen due to the lack of appropriate leaders who would have encouraged the employees after the restructuring and also would have helped in the retaining the employees who have left are or are about the leave the organization. The leadership goals of the organization were further affected due to the unfair treatment of the employee by the senior employees and this survivor syndrome affected the employees massively, as they did not find the current working environment safe for them (Dansereau et al., 2013). Thus, in the current scenario, in the organization, there is a need for increasing the level of innovation and also to find new growth opportunities that have emerged in the hotel industry and can be beneficial for the organization in expanding and also in the better workforce. The organization requires loyal and committed staff and for this, the various challenges associated with leadership have to be addressed immediately. The employees have to be assured about their safety and they have to be encouraged to continuously learn, train, and develop, as this will help them in maintaining their enthusiasm level and in pushing their boundaries for the betterment of the organization (Earley and Jones, 2009).
With the evolution of the different working styles, there is also a requirement for the organization to adapt to the new leadership approaches and to bring changes in the traditional leadership practices and the same is required in the organization, Serenity Hotel & Spa Group. The contemporary leadership practices help in building a dynamic leadership between the leaders and the employees (Junker and van Dick, 2014). The contemporary leadership practices focus on three main principles that are the connection between the employees, sharing a common interest that helps in a better bond, and working in collaboration for the betterment of the organization. Thus, all these approaches will help the organization in increasing the level of innovation in the organization, the engagement of the employees in the organization, and in uplifting the enthusiasm and morale of the employees and the leaders too to a great height (Owen, 2015).
According to the current circumstances in the organization, the Trait theory of leadership helps in identifying the potential leaders in the organization. According to the trait theory of leadership, if a person possesses strong leadership traits that he will be able to lead under any pressure and critical situations (Pomianek, 2018). The traits that are identified in the potential leaders include social and personal attributes like intelligence, well mannered, flexibility in the situations, high level of ambition, high level of desire to influence the employees, the attributes and qualities of cooperation and decision-making, and also physical attractiveness. All the attributes that are identified in the potential employees, according to the trait theory, focuses on identifying a leader who can increase the level of innovation in the organization and also utilizing the new changes that are taking place in the hotel industry.
According to the Trait theory of leadership, it is important for the organization to identify the potential leaders in the organization. Also, for the Serenity Hotel & Spa, it is crucial that the organization focuses on identifying leaders in the different departments and also from different age groups. Like, for the generation Y employees who are just on the edge of switching to a new job it is important that a like-minded person is able to understand their needs and desires and also to encourage them in a way that a person of their same age will be able to do more appropriately. Also, according to the Trait theory, the organization has to identify leaders who have high levels of social and collaborative traits (Said Lamiaa, 2016). This is important as the organization has to work together as a unified force for dealing with all the challenges that arise in the organization. Due to the implementation of the Brexit, the organization has faced a loss of some good employees and due to this, the working environment in the organization has suffered. The organization has to identify amongst the old employees who are more loyal to the organization and amongst them, they have to find some of the most talented employees who can transform into the great leaders. For this, the organization can also utilize the contemporary leadership theory of Transforming (Shek, Chung and Leung, 2015). The organization has to focus on identifying the leaders from older employees as they know and understand the employees in-depth. They possess the knowledge that would help in utilizing the available resources of the organization, to the best of the capabilities that help in making the employees follow the vision of the leaders that ultimately helps in fulfilling the goals of the organization. The main leadership challenge that the organization has been facing is the lack of appropriate leaders who possess the knowledge to utilize the currently available resources especially after the implementation of Brexit (Shen, 2016).
The other contemporary theory of leadership that can be utilized by the organization for building leaders is the Behavioral theory. According to the behavioral theory of leadership, there are three styles that emerge which include autocratic, democratic, and Laissez-Faire. In the organization Serenity Hotel & Spa Group, the employees are disengaged and for this is will be appropriate for the organization to utilize the democratic style of leadership in the organization. Through this approach, the organization will be able to increase the level of engagement of the employees in the organization (Spector, 2014). The appointed leaders will take into consideration the opinions and suggestions made by the employees and bring changes in the organization working styles that help in fulfilling the needs and desires of the employees that will help in extracting the true potential of the employees that will be helpful for fulfilling the organization’s goals. The organization will also uplift the morale of the employees and this will also help in better collaboration of the employees and the leaders that is missing in the organization Serenity Hotel & Spa Group (Tajeddini, 2009).
All these changes have to be implemented for a time period and in this case, it has to be implemented for a year. With all the approaches being implemented in the year and with a proper record being maintained so to make the necessary changes that will be required according to the working conditions in the organization and the challenges that may emerge due to the various uncertainties (Vecchiotti, 2018).
It’s also important for the organization to check on the various changes that have been proposed according to the contemporary leadership approaches. It is important to evaluate and measure the changes that are taking place in the organization as this will help in making further changes in the organization to build better leaders (Zopiatis and Constanti, 2012). The most appropriate approach is conducting a survey in the organization that will focus on finding out the satisfaction level of the employees with the leaders and their job. If the employees will have a high level of job satisfaction then this will indicate that the approaches implemented by the organization have helped in bringing a positive change in the organization. The other approach that will help in finding out about the effectiveness of the leadership in the organization is the retention rate of the employees. If the approaches, has helped in transforming the opinion of the employees who were about to leave the organization and helped in retaining them in the organization, then this will prove that the leadership practices have effectively worked. Also, the time period under which the approaches have been executed should measure the changes according to the “before & after” approach that will help in measuring the changes in a better way and will also help in identifying the areas which require more improvement (Mahajan, 2011).

The organization Serenity Hotel & Spa is looking forward to expanding their business in new geographical areas that include Indonesia and Thailand. But currently, in the United Kingdom, the organization requires better leaders to control the condition that has emerged due to Brexit and has brought the organization in a dangerous state. Thus, the approaches that have been proposed by the contemporary theories of Trait and Behavioral will be effected in addressing the issues associated to the low morale of the employees, retention of the employees in the organization, to build loyal employees of the organization, and ultimately helping to increase the level of innovation in the organization that will help in addressing the various uncertainties.
