The study was carried out in the Department of Dialectology , All India Institute of Diabetes and Research & Swasthya Diabetes c were .
As defined and discussed in methodology, after satisfying the inc lusion and exclusion criteria, w e had enrolled 1370 consecutive diabetes patients in the study from January, 2016 to December, 2017. In all of these; case history , examination, Laboratory and clinical investigations were reviewed and analysed .
In the present study, 1370 consecutive diabetes cases had been enrolled; out of which 931 cases (68%) were males and 439 cases (32%) were females .
In the study population, the maximum cases were in 41 to 60 years age group (783 cases – 57.2%). In study population eldest was of 87 years old and youngest was of 19 years of age. There were 215 (15.7%) in age group 19 to 40 years and 372 (27.2%) in age group >60 years.
In present study, out of 1370 cases maximum 97.8% (1340) were Hindu (+Other) and rest were Christian (4, 0.3%) and Muslim (26, 1.9%).
In the study, from the enrolled 1370 cases – type 2 diabetes were 1358 (99.1%) and type 1 diabetes were 12 (0.
9%).
As type 2 diabetes cases (1358, 99.1%) and type 1 diabetes cases (12, 0.9%); ther e is wide difference. So, t he data of the Type 2 and type 1 were analysed separately.
In present Study maximum number of individuals were between 41 to 60 years of age (783/1358) in Type 2 diabetes cases.
In this study, out of 1358 type 2 diabetes cases individuals 924(68%) were male and rest 434(32%) were Female.
Out of 434 total females, 393(28.9%) were House Wives. While 376(27.7%) of total 1358 population were Business doing individuals .
In study, the people were enrolled from various occupations like Farmers (73, 5.4%), Govt . Job (15, 1.1%), Retired (196, 14.4%), Service (214, 15.
8%). There were also different Professionals (77, 5.7%) like Doctors, Lawyers, Drivers, Teachers, Photographers, Architects, Accountants etc. in the study.
In the observed study, maximum cases were seen in sedentary lifestyle and that is 44.1% (599) and minimum cases were seen in heavy lifestyle which is 21.1% (287) while 34.8% (472) cases were seen in moderate life style .
Maximum cases were seen in Hindu and others that were of 97.9%(1329) while mi nimum cases were seen in Christian that were od 0.3% (4) and 1.8% (25) cases seen in Muslim.
On the basis of Prasad classification most of the cases were seen in middle class 41.9% (569) while minimum cases were seen in high or upper class 24.3% (330) and 33.8% (459) cases were seen from middle class.
Maximum cases were seen in the city are a 57.9% (786) while 9.4% (127) cases were seen out of Gujarat and 32.8%(445) cases were seen from outside the city areas (rural).
Maximum cases were having diabetes for > 10 years 36.6% (497).
Newly diagnosed cases were 12.3% (167) and recently diagnosed means less than 1year of diagnosis cases were 21.5%(292).
In Observed group of diabetes patients there were 16(1.2%) people whose feet were amputated and there were 348(25 .6%), 349(25.7%), 161(11.9%) and 341(25.1%) people were having complain of burning sole, pain in leg, numbness and weight loss respectively
In the observation group of 1358 Type 2 Diabetic patients, 348(25.6%) individuals were having Burning soles
In the observation group of 1358 Type 2 Diabetic patients, 349(25.7%) individuals were having Pain in legs
In the observation group of 1358 Type 2 Diabetic patients, 161(11.9%) individuals were having Numbness in legs
In the observation group of 1358 Type 2 Dia betic patients, 32(2.4%) individuals were having Non -healing ulcer in legs
Maximum cases 79.45% were seen in patients who were on OHA while 18.20% cases were seen in patient who were on insulin and OHA.
In 711 (52.4%) of the type 2 cases family history had been positive for the type 2 diabetes.
In the present study, history of smoking, tobacco and alcohol consumption were respectively present in 180 (13.3%), 306 (22.5%) and 153 (11.3%) individuals.
In the study population of the type 2 diabetes, Hyperten sion prevalence is 43.9% which is 596 of the total 1358 Type 2 cases.
In the study population, 1047 (77.1%) cases had either LDL, HDL or triglyceride deranged / altered in range with or without medications .
In the observed study of 1358, 38.7% (525) were having LDL >100 which were above the normal range. 39% (528) diabetic patients were having LDL between 70 -100 while and other 22.5% (305) were having 200 and other 19.4% (263) were having TGs >150 -200mg/dl, which were above the required range.
