Game plan strategy is an approach that ensures that the government delivers sports and physical activity increase through means of social actions. This procedure assesses the social value of games to the public and takes advantage of this by using social means to increase participation. Playing to Win is a strategy to increase the number of individuals doing sport just for the winning; to increase the number of able English citizens; and to set records, win accolades for this nation. Hence this paper will analyze these two policies and find factors that conflict in their handling of the objective of increasing sports participation in the country. Then it will give what policy is best for the British taxpayer and also provide recommendations(Binmore 2007).
Conflicts between Game Play and Playing to Win in terms of a single factor.
Game Plan and Playing to Win take differing views as to the rationale for participating in sport, the first way is that while Game plan views that sports should be done for enjoyment purposes playing to win viewssports participation as a way to stay physically fit.GamePlan states that people should take part in sports activities and have fun at the same time, it should be a social endeavor. Playing to Win, on the other hand, advocates for taking up sporting activities so that the participants can remain healthy(Koffi 2012).
Another factor that differentiates these two strategies of increasing sports participation is that Playing to Win reasons that sports should be done for competitive reasons. This strategy aims at increasing the involvement of all ages and these people competing to find who will emerge the best in the chosen sport. On the other hand, Game Plan policy encourages including everyone in the society in sports using education. They do this by providing sports that are best tailored to suit everyone so they can participate in sports with ease in schools. And also that people can watch games and get that feeling of being accomplished when they win.this is done because sports participation decreases when people leave school (Hood 2010).
The final separating factor of the two policies is that Game plan was created with the aim of eradicating social inequality in the society. It was made possible by providing equal opportunities and chances for everyone to partake in sports. While Playing to Win strategy encourages taking part in sports so that one can benefit from it be it health wise or money wise from winning the competitive sports they take part in(Binmore 2007).
Expand on the separating factors of the two policies by summarizing each policy’s position/stance/action and illustrate via a representative quote.
In Game Plan, partaking in sports is inspired through having a feeling of enjoyment and feeling good after doing it. It is clear in the plan, where it says in its objectives that “a workableadvancement in victory in global contests is possible, especially in the sports that the public love and follow or participate in, chiefly due of the “feel good factor” relatedtobeing triumphant”. It is an essential part of this strategy because for people to take sports seriously, they should have a feeling of achievement. When they have this, they have something positive to look forward to when doing sports or watching. It is achieved thus by encouraging people to watch games that Britain is known to excel at, hence by doing this the citizens will be able to associate the proper feeling of winning and being happy with sports. It will lead to increasing in support for sporting activities(Koffi 2012). On the other hand, the Playing to win strategy denotes that partaking in sport is inspired through encouraging competition and a competitive nature. It is clear in the approach, where it says that“first that the government’sgoal is modest; Britain wants to be a truthfullyglobalforerunner in the field ofsporting, and also its dream is to avail toindividuals of every agemore opportunities and chances to take part in high valueaggressivecompetitive games”. It is possible by there being schools and other facilities that offer to coach in competing in these sports. When people are taught by experienced coaches, they have a chance to win these games. Also by coaching the younger generation in these competitive sports, the number of sports participants that are healthy increases. Hence this will increase the chance of England winning medals in the competitive sports they take part in.Thus the country’s aim of this strategy is to create a smoothchain of developing of talents and abilities from the low school step to the professional level, with chances for additionalcontests and more training at every stage(Department for Culture, Media and Sport 2008).
Game Plan strategy approach to sports is encouraging social inclusion in sports activities. It is that all people should take part in sports. The policy states so in its objective where it says that “partakingquantitiesshould be increased for the entirepopulace; but intercessionsmustemphasize on the mainlyfinanciallyunderprivileged groupings and amongthese individualsparticularly on the youth, females and older adults”. A significant degree of work is presentlygoing on in the field of school games, but not for seniors. With this factor, it will ensure that no one is excluded from participating in a sport because of a difficulty that can be dealtwith. Hence this will encourage equality in part taking in games. Cases of situations that should be applied to make sure that everyone is included in games includes things like facilities like schools should remain open after hours; plans to urge personnel to participate in sports and activities in the office. Also, subsidy should be directly given to the targeted individuals to take part in sports; or also more chances for beneficial and healthy activities like cycling to encourage community participation(Britain and Blair 2002). However, Playing to Win policy also uses the factor that sports should be undertaken so as to promote health benefits and other benefits like commercialones from wins. It is evident from its goal that says that “sports should not be doneto win buts also as a physical activity to improve one’s self”. Thus this is achieved in this strategy by providing free swimming to the elderly and young people in the society. The number of healthy people in the communitywill increase as a result of participating in sports. It will result in everyone getting a better quality of life due to taking part in sports(Koffi 2012).
The Game Plan policy also puts into use the policy of using education as a way to encourage part taking in games and also helping sports from a young age. It is clearly shown in the objective that says; “partakingdropsnoticeablywhen people complete and goes onfalling as people grow older”. Although if one was active physically when they were younger, there is a greater possibility that will continue participating in sporting activities. Thus people should acknowledge that education has a significant role to play in impacting the way and level of taking part in sports activities.Likewise, evidence exists that supports the pointphysical activities, and sports can be beneficial to education. Proof of positives in reducing crime and social inclusivity are few.It, however, does not point to the fact that these positives are not present, but it is problematic to separate and analyze the influence of physical and sports activities in these spots. Previous experiences propose that wherever such advantages are present, this can be best utilized and gotten through physical and sports activities and other factors. Hence this policy shows the need to use education as a way to encourage more participation in sports because of benefits that exist. Additionally, it stresses the need to encourage people to partake in sports from a young age so that their interest in the games can remain to adulthood. Hence this ensures that many people will be taking part in physical activities(Hoye Nicholson and Houlihan 2010). On the other hand the playing to win also encourages management of funds allocated by Government in doing sporting activities. It can be clearly seen in the statement that “sporting teams should be able to access funding with ease”. Thus it will make sporting activities easier to manage and take part in. Some of the actions that support this objective arethatthere existedmisunderstanding previously in the sector of sports, there was missing a clear means of focusing the giving and doing for physical and sports activities. Massive amounts of bureaucracy associated with local, countrywide and regional competitions; and varioussubsidizing streams causing it to be difficult for sports clubs and NGBs to access money. It was vitalto evaluateand relocatesporting at communities and Sports England so as to have a clear sense of existence. Thus this revealed that there need to be clear channels for people in sports to get the money required to run games it will lead to better experiences while doing sports(Hood 2010).
To establish which policy is beneficial to the British taxpayer, these differingstrategies will be analytically assessedvia the lens of sports strategy evidence. Competition has been describedas an obstacle to taking part in sports according to some situations. This is due to the reason thatmany people lack an interest in being in a race of sorts according to an investigation carried out in a town in Britain. They also lack the competitive nature hence this will not attract them to take part in sports (Coalter 2013). Also, according to a study carried out in a neighbourhood in London the point that sports can be encouraged to ensure health benefits is not always right since some people will not want to take part in sports because they already are healthy hence this will not work in encouraging this group of individuals to participate in sports (Coalter 2013). Also, due to findings of a report carried out in schools in Britain the view is that most people do not want to continue with activities after school hours, they just want to rest and read. This group of people will not see the attractiveness of sports because they will consider it a waste of time (Hood 2010). According to this essay after weighing all facts Playing to win will help the nation. The policy will ensure that funds are properly managed. Also, from a citizen’s perspective, Playing to Win is right as it encourages everyone to take part in sports no matter the situation hence most people are happy with these as games are tailored out to fit everyone’s needs. Also, there is the point that people will get a feel-good sensation and people like feeling safe and happy and this will be because of winning sports(Coalter 2013).
I would reasonably conclude that Playing to Win is beneficial to British taxpayers because first, in the policy it is stipulated that the funding for the physical and sports activities shall be managed, it is good this as this will ensure that every penny is held accountable and it will ensure profitability of the nation. Also, another reason is that by participating in these activities competitively, it will make sure that the country will win the best medals and commendations in sporting events. It will lead people to develop a nature of wanting the best they can and hence training for it. Itwill, in the end, lead to increased national productivity and make Britain stand out from the rest. And also with the health benefits from these sporting activities, less money is used in treating these preventable illnesses(Hoye Nicholson and Houlihan 2010).
In conclusion, both policies were formulated with the aim of increasing sports participation in the country. Even though they take different approaches to achieving these goals, they are both formulated to benefit the British taxpayer. Both these policies if implemented have the potential of increasing sports participation in the country to different degrees. The Playing to Win however in my view is an improvement to the Game Plan and as such is the policy that should be implemented by the government.
Some of the recommendations that I can make is that first a research should be carried out to find out why sports participation is low in the country, then with this, it can be decided which policy is best suited to deal with the situation. Also, the citizens should be educated on both policies, and they should determine what can be used to improve sports in the country.
