The project aimed in construction of a tunnel of length 4.6 km in the city of Brisbane Australia. The project was undertaken and led by ACCIONA along with the BDM construction. The construction company is known for their sustainability in the construction process. The aim of this project was to improve the traffic flow and improvement in the connection between the metropolitan areas the airport of the city. With the construction of the Legacy way tunnel, it has become easier to manage the traffic and reducing the entire journey time with a negligible impact on the local habitat. The project was implemented with advanced technology. During the construction of the tunnel, the environmental damage was minimized as much as possible. The boring of the tunnel was carried out by two enormous tunnel boring machines. The boring took almost 17 months. The project followed a planned approach that led to the successful completion of the project. The service description of the project is represented in the following section.
The project was implemented with an aim of reducing the road congestions and improving the transport processes. The tunnel linked various parts of the city along with the airport to make those places easily accessible. The tunnel that is built is 4. Km long and it connects the western Freeway at Toowong along with the Inner City Bypass in the Kelvin Grove. The project team and the contractors optimized the project design for enhancing the user experiences for the motorists. The project facilitated the public transport services which were really helpful for the daily passengers. The project was needed for improvement of the daily transport. The project was huge success as the project has owned several awards till date. The list of awards that the project received includes International Tunneling Project of the year. The payment of the project was done according to the achievement of each milestone of the project. For accurate payment of the resources, the budget was estimated at the initiation phase of the project. All the payments that were associated with the project were completed within 15th of each month. The estimated budget of the project was $1.5 billion.
Sub contractors played a major role in successful completion of the project. The project was led by the contractors and the sub contractors of ACCIONA. The construction part of the project was mainly led by the BDM construction and Ghella.
The main representatives of this project were Brisbane City Council along with the Queensland Motorways. The main stakeholders of the project include ACCIONA Infrastructure and BMD construction that is located in Brisbane.
