The foremost determination of the paper is to focus on the effectiveness of a project management methodology which is the PRINCE 2. The application of this project management methodology in this particular project will be stated in the paper. The paper will also focus on how that particular project management methodology will be useful in the McDelivery project. The paper will be focussing on my role as a project manager (Marchewka 2014). The plan is to implement the Prince 2 project methodology in the McDelivery project in one of the restaurants in United Kingdom. The application of the project management methodology in this project will be evaluated in the paper. The paper will also provide critical analysis of the selected project management methodology.
The selected project was started by McDonalds in United States of America in the year 1993. This project was very much successful in US which was the main reason it spread to the other regions of the world such as Europe and Asia. This service provided a great deal of convenience to all of their clients who want their product at their doorstep. The customer experience of this business organization increased significantly with the use of the McDelivery service (Banica, Polychronidou and Radulescu 2018). The McDelivery project was very much successful for McDonald’s and they increased their services to almost every country in the world within 20-25 years starting from their starting point. This business organization uses different categories regarding their delivery of the products. The involvement of the third parties such as Uber eats for better services is the other significant step of this organization which helped them to grow over the years.
The seven principals of PRINCE 2 project management methodology are as followings:
Continued business justification: According to this principle the business case is the most important aspect of this project. McDonald’s usually updates their business processes according to the needs and requirements of their clients. Every stage of the projects is critically examined by dedicated professionals so that the effectiveness of the quality of products and service can be maintained (Tomanek and Juricek 2015). This principle is very much important for the McDelivery project as this project involves a different type of internal and external stakeholders such as the decision making which is generally done by the management authorities and the distribution of the product are done with the help of distributors such as McDelivery and Uber Eats (Hinde 2018). Thus it can be said that this principle can support in a massive way for the success of the project. However, contradicting with this principal it can be said that if this principle is not followed then the role of each of the stakeholders might get messed up.
Sessions log is maintained in the McDelivery project as time is a huge business perspective in this particular project. Individuality is a huge concern regarding this project of this global organization. This principle of the PRINCE can be successfully applied for the restaurant which is about to be opened in the UK (Müller and Neumeier 2015). This project management practice can be effectively used to understand the needs and requirements of the clients which change with the passage of time. Unique products and services are always maintained by this organization as this would help them to flourish their business over the years (Nikfard and Baniasadi 2017). New project management practice is very much important for every business processes as the clients are always looking for something new in the products and service so this principle will be very much useful for the restaurants. Identification of the lesions from each of the cases in the project is a very important aspect of this principals as this would help in decreasing the customer complaints. Thus, it can be said that this principle can be successfully applied as the specifications will be very much for the business (Greenhalgh et al. 2018). However, it can also be said that failure of taking any kinds of follow-ups may lead to have a direct negative impact on the organization considering the reputation of the organization as well as from the business perspective.
McDelivery service involves different types of internal and external stakeholders such as the project managers and distributors respectively. The roles and responsibilities of each of the stakeholders associated with this project should be clear so that there are no issues regarding the efficiency delivery of the services. Each individual who are associated with this project should be very much aware of the roles and responsibilities. In this kinds of projects, it can be seen that one of the stakeholders may have more than one roles and responsibilities but the application of this principle will be very much useful for this business (Albert, Balve and Spang 2017). According to this principle 4 level structure will be very much useful for this kinds of business information’s such as the team level, project manager level who will be implementing the project management processes, project board who will be approving the practise based on the presentations of the project managers and finally the corporate management who only looks after the over profit and loss of the project. The activities of the project management team is the most significant aspect of this principle which can be successfully applied for the McDelivery for one of the restaurants in UK (Nicholas and Steyn 2017). However, it can be also said that the if this principle is not applied for this project, the business may face severe business loss due to the complexities of the role of the external stakeholders specially the third party involved in the project.
Each stage of implementing the McDelivery service in one of the restaurants should be managed according to the need of the consumers so that effectiveness of each of the stages are maintained. It can be said that the management of each of the stages will be very much important for this project as all the stages of the project are connected to each other and if any one of the stages is negatively impacted then the quality of services and also the products can also get compromised (Moshesh and Olatunbosun 2018). There are lots of issues associated with this business as the professionalism of the involved third party which are needed to be examined before selecting them. Thus it can be said that this principle of the PRINCE 2 will be very much beneficial for the project. According to this principle, planning is the most significant aspect of any project and this type of project will be very much impactful if it is implemented with a proper plan (Welch and Summers 2019). The planning of this project is very much important as it must be depending on the new evidence, evidences should be used with the help of a proper plan for these kinds of projects. However, it can be said that the if this principle is not involved in this project then the project may suffer from different kinds of management issues.
Management in each level is very important for this business organization. The quality of the products and services is very much important for this business organization as they always want to maintain a higher quality of products and services. According to this principle the different types of tolerance such as stage tolerance and project tolerance can be successfully applied in this project (Li and Wang 2015). The tolerance level of each of the stages of this project should be considered by the management team so that their is perfection and accuracy in each of the stages. Establishment of the limits of tolerance is one of the most important aspects of this principle. The different stages of management should be always ready to take critical business decision as the unavailability of one of the management team should not have any impact on the overall business (Mousaei and Gandomani, 2018). It can be said that this project will always require a dedicated management who will be managing the different phases of the project starting the collection of the raw material to the delivery of the final products to the services. However, it can be also said that if this aspect of the PRINCE 2 is not considered in this project then the project may have issues like delay of service which will be not at all accepted from the point of view of the clients (Tonchia 2018). Business perspective may be significantly impacted with the use of this principle.
Quality requirements is a very important aspect of this principle of the PRINCE management methodology. Like every other project this project will also depend massively on the needs and requirements of the clients as they are main stakeholders of this business so all the stakeholders associated with this project should be aware of this fact (Rehacek 2017). It can be said that apart from the quality of the product the quality of service in terms of the time, these aspects should be seriously considered by each level so that they can maintain a long term relationship with each of their client (Stettina and Hörz 2015). And for any kinds of new ventures this principle should be mostly used as there will be other market competitors as well who may have been providing great customer service over the years (Thomas 2014). Thus it can be said that this aspect of the principle can be successfully applied for the new business in UK and as a project manager I will make sure that this principle is applied successfully in the project.
The size and the different types of complexities may be a burden for the internal stakeholders of this project such as the project managements and the corporate management team. Efficient and flexible working environment should be maintained in every level of the project (Guimarães, Leal and Mendes 2018). Time capability of each of the stakeholders of this project is a very important aspect of this project which are needed to be considered so that the desired results of this project can be maintained.
The performance goals of PRINCE 2 can be successfully applied for the successful outcome of this projects. The detailed aspects of the performances are described below.
Tolerance Category |
Level |
Application in this project |
Scope |
Planning phase |
Documentation is the most important aspect of this project as it involves the authorization from all the stakeholders associated with the project. |
Timescale |
Planning Phase |
The detailed description of the products from the storage of the raw materials to the deliver stage should be on time as time is considered as an asset in this type of project. |
Risk |
Risk Management Approach |
There are different types of issues associated with this project such as the shortage of raw material in specific time of the year, unavailability of the resources, ineffective marketing strategies, these risks should be pre-analyzed so that the effectiveness of each level of the project is maintained. |
Quality |
Testing phase |
The quality of the products and service is the most important aspect of this project. There are numerous reasons to believe that the quality of the products can be compromised sometime due to reasons like unavailability of one of the raw materials as some of the raw materials associated with this project are not generally found round the year so efficient back storage facility should be there so there are no issues with the quality of products and services. |
Benefits |
Business Case |
The products and service offered in project should be benefitting all the stakeholders associated with the business. . |
Cost |
Plan |
The cost involved in each of the different phases of the project should be analyzed and determined in the initial phases, as this will be helping the project is a better way. |

There are different types of issues associated with PRINCE 2 project management methodology which are needed to be considered before opening the McDelivery service to one of the restaurants in UK (Vaní?ková 2017). Cost management is one of the main issues regarding this project as the cost of the equipment’s used in the project as well as the raw materials keeps on changing according to market conditions so it is very difficult to analysis the cost involved in each of the levels. Management by exception is one of the other limitations of this project management delivery as the tolerance level associated with each of the aspect of this project keeps on changing (González-Marcos et al. 2016). The needs and requirements of the clients associated will be the other limitation of PRINCE 2 which might delay the initiation of the projects (Mousaei and Gandomani 2018).
Based on the given scenario of staring the McDelivery service in one of the restaurants in UK the recommendations are as followings:
Conclusion:
From the above paper, it can be concluded that the use of the PRINCE 2 project management will be very much useful for the McDelivery project for one of the restaurants located in United Kingdom. The different types of issues and challenges which are generally faced by every new business organization can be effectively removed and minimized with the help of the seven discussed principles of the PRINCE 2. The stated PRINCE 2 project management methodology will bring new convenience to both the internal as well as the external stakeholders of this project such as the management team and the clients. Surprising features in the products will be there if this principle is successfully implanted in the working environment of the restaurant. The implementation of this project management plan will also be helping this organization to improve the quality of the products, the service given by the third parties can also be improved with the help of this plan as the benefit will be shared accordingly. The customer experience of this business organization can be increased significantly with the use of the McDelivery service. The McDelivery project was very much successful for the new restaurant which will be providing the door to door deliver service. Thus it can also be said that the efficiency of the involved third parties will be improved to a significant extent as they will also be prepared to offer the service at every time of the day or night if the profit percentage is shared equally among all the shareholders. The business area and business perspective of that particular restaurant in UK can be improved significant with the use of this project management methodology.
