Discuss about the Development of Information System for UNICEF.
The paper mainly reflects on the organization “UNICEF Childcare” that faces number of issues and challenges as well as issues due to the current manual process. In order to resolve the issues, the UNICEF Childcare organization mainly aims to implement an information system so that the current operations and functions of the childcare organization can be successfully handled.
The objectives of the project includes:
The UNICEF Childcare organization wants to develop an information system in order to manage the operations of the organization automatically. However, it is identified that proper software development methodology is needed for developing an information system for the UNICEF Childcare organization. The needs of the information system development is broken into number of manageable project phases so that the project activities can be completed successfully (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017). In order to develop the project it is very much necessary to estimate the budget as well as project time successfully so that the development of information system can be completed within the estimated due date. Furthermore, proper management within project is needed in order to complete the sequential phases of the project successfully by meeting the organizational objectives as well as goals.
In order to develop an information system for the UNICEF Childcare organization, agile project management methodology is mainly selected. The agile project management methodology is selected for this project by reflecting on number of factors including the type of information system required as well as on the team size involved in project (Matharu et al. 2015). Agile methodology is found to be very much suitable for the development of information system as it generally eliminates the chances of project failures and helps in minimizing errors that are associated with project. Additionally with the this project methodology, ownership as well as collaboration between various project team members of the organization increases which helps in creating a positive impact on the outcome of the project.
The primary functional requirements that are needed for the system are listed below:
External interfaces: External interfaces are required for keeping records of all the information as well as data that are inputted within the system.
Administrative functions: Different type of administrative functions are required for managing as well as handling the information that is present within the database of the information system (Bahill and Madni 2017).
Authentication: It is necessary to utilize thee method of authentication in order to protect both the accounts of the users as well as admin.
Business rules: For identifying project requirements, it is necessary to have proper business rules as it also helps in aligning the needs of the business with the project that is required for the UNICEF Childcare organization (Mijumbi et al. 2016)
Legal and regulatory requirements: All the regulatory problems as issues needs to be mitigated before the information system development for the UNICEF Childcare organization.
The non-functional requirements that are required for the system are listed below:
Scalability: For enhancing both flexibility as well as sustainability of the system, it is necessary to implement the information system in context to cloud because it will also help in reducing the operational cost of the organization (Dennis, Wixom and Tegarden, 2015).
Performance: Thee information system that is developed for the UNICEF childcare organization must have less response time.
Security: Appropriate facility of encryption as well as security is provided in order to secure the sensitive data of the organization and for avoiding chances of data an information misuse (Fleming and Koppelman 2016).
Data integrality: Integration of data, which is present in the information system database, is mainly performed.
The project uses cost benefit analysis method in order to estimate the project related cost that are associated with the project and the various profits that can be derived from the project outcomes (Sanders et al. 2016). It is found that with the help of CB analysis method, both negative as well as positive aspect of the project can be easily determined for illustrating the project benefit in context to both time and budget that is invested within the project. Furthermore, Cost benefit analysis helps in identifying ratio of benefits as well as operational cost of the projects.
In order to develop an information system for the organization “UNICEF childcare”, Gantt chart is created for monitoring the various project activities in order to complete the development of information system within the due date. Gantt chart assists in delivering the project on time by helping the project team members to understand the overall impact of project delays so that they can be able to foster stronger collaboration in order to encourage better task organization (Fitzpatrick 2016). In addition to this, it is identified that in order to create Gantt chart is too important to have work breakdown structure as WBS helps in breaking the project phases into number of manageable activities so that the project can be easily managed. Furthermore, the WBS helps in providing proper level of detail to the project team members so that they can be able to complete the project task on time.
It is quite important to properly understand the system requirements and goals properly for developing the project schedule. The schedule that is development for the project of information system is generally aligned organizations requirements as well as needs in order to complete the project within the assumed time and budget by fulfilling the goals as well as objectives of the organization (Gupta et al. 2016). In addition to this, the entire schedule of project is broken into numerous phases so that the cost associated with the project activities can be assumed successfully.
The list of project stakeholders are as follows:
The investigation technique that are useful in analyzing the project requirement are as follows:
The benefits of the three-investigation technique that are used for determining project requirements are as follows:
Interviews: The interviews are mainly conducted for determining the requirement of the project by involving all the stakeholders of the project within the project of information system development (Brinkmann 2014).
Sampling of databases, forms and documentation: This investigation technique is mainly used in order to gather existing documents as well as data, which are mainly associated with the organization. The sources from which the information are collected mainly includes customer complaints, emails as well as reports.
Prototyping: Prototyping is considered as one of the sampling method through which a preliminary design for the information system is created in order to get approval from the stakeholders of the organization (Macdonald et al. 2014).
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the development of information system for the organization “UNICEF childcare” is very much advantageous. Due to the development of information system, the organization is able to manage the operations of the organization online. It is analyzed that the agile project methodology is mainly used in order to develop the information system. Additionally, cost benefit analysis also performed in the paper in order to determine the project feasibility.
