Discourse analysis is an approach to analyze the different written, vocal and sign languages in significant events. This analysis is used by researchers or analysts for analyzing speeches, news, etc. It focuses sentences, talk, propositions, etc. The current report is also discourse analysis, and it is based on a Politian’s speech (Gee, 2014). The present study will include the rationale, aim, methods, literature review and critical of analysis. The study will analyze the speech of Melania Trump’s speech in which she imitates Michelle Obama.
2.1 Rational
Discourse analysis focuses on the speech, news and other subjective topics. So, the current research report will concentrate on the speech of Melania Trump’s speech in which she copied the speech of Michelle Obama. It is one of the major issues of politics of America because it could create an uncertain situation in the nation. Along with this, it could also increase the political instability in the country. It is an issue now because there are numbers of researchers has conducted discourse analysis, but they have never chosen this topic earlier. But there is the enormous scope of the study of plagiarism. So, it is a vast scope of analysis. So, I have chosen this topic (Fairclough, 2013). Now, I will highlight the language and writing and similarities which have used by Melania Trump in her speech.
2.2 Aim
To analyze the speech of Melania Trump in which she copied Michael Obama.
3.1 Article 1
The report of BBC news stated that the Melania Trump used the same speech which was delivered by Michelle Obama in 2008 (US election: Melania Trump ‘plagiarized’ Michelle Obama, 2016). She took the help from a speech writing team which gave rise to this problem. But the communication advisor made a stamen that it was not copied from Michelle Obama’s speech but it was used as an inspiration. Similarly, Melania Trump considered her statement incredible despite the allegations of copied content. But the statement was copied, and Melania Trump said that her parents taught values and hard work and respecting others. This was similar to the lines where Michelle Obama describes herself and Barrack Obama’s values.
.2 Article 2
According to The Guardian, the speech of Melania Trump had plagiarism (McCarthy & Jacobs, 2016). It was pointed out by the Journalist Jarett Hill who found similarities in the two. Apart from this, the speech had many fragments from other people who were reflected in her thinking and values. Even she claimed that she had written it on her own. She also said that she took very little help from others in writing the speech. A speechwriter also stated that the writer of Michelle used content from Hillary Clinton.
3.3 Article 3
As per the article of Variety, Melania Trump indicated that she wrote the speech herself and she took as little help from others (Oldham, 2016). Even Donald Trump said that the speech was incredible. In his tweet, he blamed the writer who wrote the statement. He stated that they took notes about her thinking and inspirations. The Variety has also included the excerpts from the two speeches which appear similar to each other. A side by side video comparison also proved that many phrases were copied from the Convention speech of Michelle Obama in 2008. But Donald Trump considered the statement as a success.
3.4 Article 4
The report of NPR has highlighted many parts of the speech which were similar between Michelle Obama and Melania Trump (Section Of Melania Trump’s Monday Speech Mirrors Michelle Obama’s In 2008, 2016). She included values, hard work, respecting people and passing the benefits to the future generation of the country. All these points were said by Michelle Obama. Most of the contents were copied by the writer who made it look similar to the speech which was delivered in 2008. Many parts were highlighted in the article which was given by NPR. It can be seen that more than half of the words were same which raised this question.
3.5 Article 5
The article presented in Quora also doubted the originality of the speech (Kennedy, 2016). They also included a side by side comparison which showed similarity. They believed that a plagiarism checker would have easily detected the similarities between the two speeches. They have even doubted whether her speech would have passed through a controller. They have noticed some repeated phrases and articles which were unusual showing her upbringing. They also believe that it was a structured speech but had many phrases which were common. It was a problem which made it look similar to the Michelle Obama’s speech. Many other journalists have also accused the speechwriters who copied the content from the other speeches. The entire speech should not have appeared to the speech which was earlier delivered by Mrs. Obama.
4. Actual analysis
4.1 Background
Analysis of the five different articles on this subject has reflected that there were some basic and general phrases of Melanie’s speech which can increase the similarities. These are like “Our Children in this nation,” “The many generations to follow,” “You do what you say and you keep your promise and “My parents impressed on me the values that.” But on the other hand, the major similarity of her speech can be presented by these words “Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.” Analysis has shown that meaning of these lines was completely same. There were some journalists, analyst and Politian criticized this situation (Coulthard, 2014).
4.2 Critical Discourse Analysis
Analysis has shown that most of the people were liked the writing styles of Melania’s writing team. Along with this, in her speech, most of the notes were taken up from her life style, inspirations which have shown her thinking. Most of the viewer’s listeners were not agreed with this that Michele Obama does not have a monopoly on such terms because similar sentences were so common and general which have reflected the feelings of Melania Trump. She talked about her experience as a Slovenian immigrant in America, and praised her husband, calling him “intensely loyal.”
An unemployed journalist named Jarrett Hill noticed similarities between her speech and the one given by Michelle Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention (Han, 2015). But, there was only one minute part of speech was similar and she has to give fourteen minutes speech in which she discussed experience as a Slovenian immigrant in America, and praised her husband, calling him “intensely loyal.” Overall, the current research analysis has reflected the similarities in language, expression, meanings, and phrases n efficient manner.
5. Conclusion
The current study has successfully analyzed the language, speech, phrases, and talk. It has reflected that Melania has used some phrases, sentences, and words from Michale’s speech but these were very common which can be utilized by any one in general talk also. The comparison has reflected that these were showing her experience.
On the other hand, analysis has also found that Melania has used the more strong words and her writer’s writing style is very nice as compared to Michael Obama. It can be concluded from the above articles that the speech given by Melania Trump was similar to the statement which was provided by Michelle Obama in 2008. All the items have used side by side comparison and video analysis to show the common phrases and words. Therefore, discourse analysis has compared the language and writing style and phrases of speech effectivemannerly.
