This Island is more than beauty and nature because it has many legends and also interesting history which have many mysteries. It has many stories of legends such as wronged maidens and lovelorn princes and they leaves the mark of prosperity on Islands. The most famous legend is a beautiful maiden known as Mahsuri, who lived in this Island almost 200 years ago. This lady was accused for committing adultery and sentenced to death. This accusation was wrong and put by the haters of the lady. When she was stabbed her body oozed white blood because she was proclaiming her innocence. She cursed this Island for seven generations that this Island was remains barren, and the remainder of this wrong maiden is Mahsuri’s Masoleum.
In 1821, Siamese attacked on Langkawi, and because of the inevitable fate Datuk Kerma Jaya who was the head of the Kampung Raja, which was the ancient capital of Langkawi. King ordered to burn the granary of the village and poisoned all the wells of the village for the purpose of make the enemy starve. After that this island was slipped into slumber and this legend was considered as allure of Langwaki (Mother earth travel, n.d.).
After the seven generations the slumberous existence ended of this Island and people realize that curse of Mahsuri was ended, nobody knows whether it is superstition or coincidence. Modernization was conducted and this land was developed very carefully.
In 1987, Langwaki was declared as duty free port by the Federal Government, and during the period of 1990 the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) was established for the purpose of developing this Island as tourist destination. LADA was housed in LADA Complex, and it is also responsible to improve the socio economic conditions of local people.
Malaysia decided to launch MEASAT I into the orbit of the earth on 13th January 1996. Government choose island of Langkawi for the purpose of settling down the control centre of MEASAT Satellite for monitor and control all the in-orbit operations related to MEASAT Satellite. The centre was set up at Gunung Raya which is highest peak of this Island, and this operation brought the name of Langwaki on the world map.
Today this Island is developed and blossomed by inhabited farmers and fisherman, and it also become the world class tourist destination for both domestic and international travelers. The main town of Langkawi Island is Kuah which was sleepy hollow at one time is now becomes the commercial district.
Pantai Cenang is situated at Western Coast of Langkawi and it is mainly a beach area which is very popular in tourists (Angkawi insight, n.d.). This beach is located at 25kms from west of Kuah and take 10 minutes to reach from international airport of Langkawi (Letto, 2013).
Pantai Cenang beach is the heart of the Pantain Cenang Area, and most activities are conducted around this beach which is almost 2km long curved stretch of white sands. This beach has many coconut trees and overlooks the turquoise blue waters with many tiny islands, and tourists can also see reefs in the ocean which are just 100 meters away from the offshore. In day time, many activities are conducted on the beach such as volleyball, swimming, parasailing, banana boating, jet skiing and more. In night, there are number of beach bars which set the environment and offer food and drinks with the arrangement of live music (Yatra, n.d.).
