This research will develop the knowledge regarding different aspects of the research project. Training at the workplace is crucial as it develops the skills and knowledge of the employee. This research project will help in understanding the different factors which are responsible for increasing the need for training and various advantages to the individual, service user and sector of providing training to the employees. Data for the research will be based on the aim, objectives and research questions framed in this research. The main focus will be on answering the research problems discussed in this research project. Cancer Council Australia is providing healthcare services to the cancer patients and this research will cover aspects related to the research topic in relation to Cancer Council Australia.
Training and development parts are crucial for the healthcare setting so as to develop employees for enhancing the quality of the services offered. Training programs will help in retaining the employees and contributing towards the development of the skills and knowledge of the employees. Maintaining quality of the services offered by the healthcare setting is the important aspect. Various training programs are conducted in the healthcare settings for the development of the skills and knowledge of the employees. The manner in which operations or activities in the healthcare setting are carried out is changing. This change has increased the need for training programs in the healthcare setting (Fukui, et. al., 2011).
Various challenges are being faced by the healthcare organisations due to which quality of the healthcare services is getting affected. For offering quality services to the users of healthcare setting focus must be on improving the quality of services, enhancing knowledge and skills of the employees. Various issues have been faced by Cancer Council Australia which has acted as limitations. These must be dealt in an effective manner by applying different techniques (Hecht, et. al., 2016).
There are various reasons which have raised the concern of Cancer Council Australia for providing training to the employees. These reasons include a change in the technology, work overload, lack of knowledge and skills, lack of practical knowledge, the depleting performance due to the use of outdated practices and equipment, lack of training to the employees and lack of providing enough time to patients (Fields, 2011). Technology is one of the most important reasons as technology changes at a very fast speed which affects the current technology adopted by the healthcare setting (Etherington, 2016). For maintaining the operations in an effective manner there is a need to install the latest technology and provide training to the employees for using the latest technology. Workload also affects the performance of the employees and training must be provided for ensuring that employees are capable of managing the workload in an effective manner. Lack of knowledge and skills is another limitation which is responsible for creating the impact on the performance of the employees as well as negative impact on the health of the service users (Bistaraki, et. al., 2011). Practical knowledge must be provided to the employees so as to enhance the experience gained by the employees. This experience helps the employees in offering high-quality services to the service users. Lack of training can also affect the performance of the employees as training must be provided to the employees on a regular basis so as to make them up-to-date. Employees must be aware of the time they have to give to an individual for ensuring good health (Jill, et. al., 2013).
Training programs will help in addressing the weaknesses which are present in the workplace. The training program will help in developing skills for coping with these weaknesses (Frost, 2017). The performance of the employees gets improved and also contributes towards employee satisfaction. Training programs also develop theoretical as well practical knowledge. Providing training will not only contribute towards enhanced performance but will also ensure low employee turnover. Training programs create a positive impact on the reputation of the business and develop healthy and positive workplace (Salas, et. al., 2013).
Different training programs can be initiated for developing knowledge and skills of the employees of Cancer Council Australia. Cancer Council Australia can adopt various measures which will improve the performance of the employees as well as help in providing better healthcare facilities and services to the users. These measures which can be adopted by Cancer Council Australia are mentioned below:
