One of the key factors that should be maintained for the contemporary business organizations is to enhance the effective working environment (Murrell 2012). This is important in the current business scenario due to the fact that, the more motivated will be the employees, the more productive and effective will they be in their workplace. Contemporary business organizations have to enhance and maintain the motivation level of the employees in order to gain the maximum productivity and effectiveness from them, which will in turn help to gain competitive advantages in the market. However, there are various measures that can be initiated to enhance the motivation of the employees in their workplace (Lazaroiu 2015). One of the prominent measures that can be initiated is maintaining the attitudes of the employees along with enhancing their job satisfaction in the workplace. Attitude of the employees should be well maintained and enhanced in order to create a positive image about the workplace to them. The more will be the positive attitude of the employees, the more will be the effectiveness of the workplace along with having more effective customer service.
This report will discuss about the importance of enhancing the attitude of the employees along with maintaining the job satisfaction of them for the contemporary business organizations. Moreover, various models and theories related to the employee motivation and organizational behavior will also be discussed in this report. Critical analysis will be incorporated in this report in order to measure the opinions of different authors in view to the employee satisfaction and attitude in the organization and how it can help in enhancing the organizational behavior.
As discussed earlier in this report, it is important for the business organizations to enhance the attitude of their employees in order to maintain the effective working environment (Dalal et al. 2012). However, one of the most prominent mistakes being done by the human resource manager in the contemporary business organizations is confusing the employee attitude with the employee behavior. However, the two concepts are different and will have different impact on the organizational behavior. Employee attitude refers to the feeling of the employees in their workplace and towards their colleagues, superiors, subordinates and the customers.
Thus, attitude of the employees is important to determine their effectiveness in the workplace. Moreover, it is important for the organizations to initiate various measures in order to create positive attitude among the employees. This is important for the contemporary business organizations due to the reason that, in the current business scenario, competition in every business sector is more intense and thus, it is important for them to maintain the level of customer satisfaction (Jahanshani et al. 2014). The more positive will be the employee attitude in the organization, the more will be the level of customer service being provided. Thus, customer loyalty and satisfaction level will get increased.
As discussed earlier in this report, determination of the employee attitude is having positive as well as negative implications on the organizational behavior. There are various theories that are being stated in order to identify the extent of implications of the employee attitude. One of the key theories is the emotional intelligence theory (Sadri 2012). According to this theory, it is the individual intelligence of the employees that enable them to apply their skills and expertise effectively in accomplishing their organizational roles. Moreover, emotional intelligence refers to the ability of the employees to determine and identify the feeling of their organizational counterparts and accomplishing their job roles accordingly. Thus, effective initiation of this theory helps the employees in enhancing their effectiveness in working as a team. Thus, the teamwork will also get enhanced due to the implementation of this theory.
According to Khalili (2012), emotional intelligence of the employees is having great importance for the business organizations. This is due to the reason that, the more will be the emotional intelligence of the employees, the more will be the effectiveness of them in using their personal skills and expertise in meeting the organizational challenges. Thus, the business organizations will gain competitive advantages from the having the access to the diversified skills of the employees.
Determination of attitude of the employees also has implications on enhancing the level of motivation of the employees in their workplace. This is due to the reason that, the concept of employee motivation is directly related to the attitude of the employees in the organization (Dobre 2013). The more motivated will be the employees in their workplace, the more will be the probability of positive attitude of the employees. As being stated by Robertson, Jansen Birch and Cooper (2012), the more motivated will be the employees in their workplace, the more engaged they will be in their respective job profiles. According to the authors, this is due to the reason that, if the employees are being motivated enough in their workplace, then the organizational citizenship of the employees will also get increased. They will feel more engaged in the workplace and will be more positive towards their organizations. Thus, the working environment of the organization will get enhanced, which will in turn enhance the image and reputation of the organization in the market.
According to Fernandez and Moldogaziev (2013), positive attitude of the employees determines the level of the performance of them. This is due to the reason that, employees having the positive attitude in the organization will have more effectiveness in dealing with the internal challenges in the organization along with dealing effectively with the customers. This helps in enhancing the teamwork in the organization. The authors have also stated that, positive attitude among the employees also helps in enhancing the bonding among the internal stakeholders. Thus, the more will the bonding among the employees, the more will be the mutual understanding in the internal management.
As discussed in the above sections, it is important for the business organizations to ensure the motivation level of the employees in order to enhance their positive attitude in the organizations. Thus, in order to enhance the level of motivation of the employees, there are various motivation theories that are being stated by different authors should be implemented. One of the prominent motivational theories is the Maslow’s need theory (Maslow 2013). According to this theory, there are various steps that should be initiated by the business organizations in order to motivate the employees. According to this theory, the basic needs for motivating the employees are air, water, shelter and clothing (Taormina and Gao 2013). These needs should be provided by the organization to their employees in order to ensure the healthy working environment. Effective fulfillment of these needs will motivate the employees to enhance their productivity in their workplace.
However, apart from these basic needs, there are various needs of the employees, which should be fulfilled by the organization. This theory states the safety needs as the next step, which should be provided to the employees. Safety needs refer to the security and health of the employees in their workplace. It is the responsibility of the senior level management to ensure the workplace safety and health for the employees. This will motivate the employees in enhancing their job satisfaction (Wong and Laschinger 2013). The next step in this theory is the social needs, which refers to the initiation of the bonding, mutual understanding and cooperation among the employees in the organization. This will enable the employees to enhance their attitude toward other internal stakeholders.
The next step refers to the esteem needs, which refers to the recognition and respect of the employees in the organization. This step is much important due to the reason that, in the current business scenario, recognition of the employees in the organization is important due to the reason that, the more recognized will be the employees for their work by their superiors, the more motivated they will be to enhance their productivity and effectiveness in their workplace. The last need is the self actualization need. According to this need, the employees should be provided proper position in the organization along involving them in the decision making process. This will enable the employees to feel their importance in the organization along with being more involved and engaged. Thus, fulfillment of this need will help the organizations to enhance the level of engagement of the employees in the organization, which will in turn ensure the positive attitude of the employees.
Another motivational theory that is equally effective as the Maslow’s need theory is the Hertzberg’s two factor theory. According to this theory, there are mainly two factors that should be maintained by the organizations in order to determine the rate of motivation for the employees (Yusoff, Kian and Idris 2013). One of the factors is the motivators, which refers to the enhancement of the further motivation of the employees. This factor includes the recognition of the employees in their workplace, growth and promotion in the organization along with having more responsibility in the organization. These factors are not the basic factors that should be provided by the organizations but the extra benefits that are being provided to them in order to motivate them.
On the other hand, another factor that is being mentioned in this theory is the hygiene factors. These factors are the basic factors that should be provided by the business organizations in order to prevent the origination of the dissatisfaction of the employees (Pegler 2012). According to this theory, fulfillment of these factors including the payments and perquisites, working conditions and organizational rules and regulations should be effective in order prevent the dissatisfaction among the employees. Thus, initiation of this theory will help the business organizations in initiating various measures in motivating the employees along with enhancing their attitude in the organization.
Enhancement of the employee attitude helps in maintaining the organizational relationship among the internal stakeholders. This is due to the reason that, the more positive will be the attitude of the employees towards their colleagues and superiors, the more effective will be the relationship between the employees and the managerial levels. The leadership factors are being effectively communicated and being followed by the employees. According to Shin, Taylor and Seo (2012), there is direct relationship between the employee attitude and organizational behavior. This is due to the fact that, if the attitude of the employees is positive then, they will possess more favorable behavior towards the decision being taken by the senior level management. Thus, the organizational structure and effectiveness can be effectively maintained.
Apart from the above discussed theories about the implications of the positive implication of the employee attitude, there are negative implications also, which have to be faced by the business organizations. This is due to the reason that, if the attitude of the employees is negative and not favorable, then there are various implications that will be faced by the organizations. One of the key implications that will be faced by the business organizations is the reduction in the quality of the customer service (Jhandir 2012). This is due to the reason that, if the employees are having negative attitude in the organization, then they will also show their negative behavior towards the customers also. Thus, this will lead to the reduction in the level of the satisfaction and loyalty of the customers towards the organizations. Moreover, it will make the organizations to gather negative image in the market.
According to Alfes, Shantz, Truss and Soane (2013), if the relationship between the employees and the higher level management is negative, then it will lead to the unfavorable attitude of the employees. This is due to the fact that, due to the reason of negative relationship between the internal stakeholders, employees will have negative impression about their superiors. Thus, there will be less chance of mutual understanding and cooperation among the internal stakeholders in the organization.
Conclusion
Thus, it can be concluded that, enhancement of the job satisfaction of the employees in the organization will help to promote positive employee attitude. This is due to the reason that, the more satisfied will be the employees in their workplace, the more positive will be their attitude towards the internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this report also discussed about the various implications of the employee attitude for the business organizations. It is being identified that, employee attitude can have both positive as well as negative impact for the organization. Various motivational theories are also been discussed in order to identify the process of enhancing the employee motivation in the organization. Different measures to enhance the job satisfaction of the employees are also being discussed in this report, which will help the organizations to promote the positive employee behavior.
