This report is intended to describe the enterprise planning and implementation for the ABB Grain, which is one of the Australian, owned Consumer Goods Company. It has been observed that in the present time, the organisation wants a reduction in the IT related investments and also wants a quicker market solution and the market solutions.
ABB Grain is one of the largest agribusiness of Australia that was founded in the year of 1939. The main products of the company are the grains, wool, fertiliser, malt, chemicals, handling as well as storage services. The main focus of the company is on the accumulation of the grains and its marketing but the organisation also focuses on other activities such as receiving as well as storage along with the malting of the grains. In the present time, the organisation has a total of 1100 employees. Along with the Australia, the organisation expanded their businesses in the New Zealand also.
This report is intended to provide different suggestion by which ABB Grain can upgrade the IT system in their company and can reduce the related costs. According to the senior manager of the company, there are mainly three different options available to the company by which company an upgrade their existing IT system. As stated by Maditinos et al. (2011), enterprise resource planning is one of the integrated management of any core business processes mainly provides the real time solutions and mediated by the technology as well as software. ERP is most effective in a case of the product planning, service delivery, materials management, shipping and payment, finance, inventory management, marketing and sales etcetera (Upadhyay et al. 2011). On the other hand, CRM is the approach by which organization can manage the interaction of their organization with the present as well as potential customers of the company by the process of analyzing the history of the customers and improving the business related relationship with the customers (Linoff and Berry, 2011).As stated by Xia et al. (2012). Internet of things refers to some inter-networking physical devices as well as vehicles or other items that are embedded in the software, sensors, electronics as well as network connectivity so that those objects can exchange or collect data.
Apart from that, company should implement Developed a mobile online tool which enabled the digital disease identification of plants on the field. Which is a direct connection between the most applicable BASF products and the disease is then established to treat the affected plants.
The main purpose of the company is to come over the old CRM approaches and using something new like cloud computing that can help the company to stand in a better position in the ever-rising competition business market. To get a place in the market by reduction of cost is the purpose of the company for using mobile apps. Flexibility increase and utilization of optimal sources is also the purpose of the company of going towards different available options. To use something environment friendly along with automatic updates of software is also their purpose. Further, the use of the cloud computing in the organization would enable the organization to store a huge amount of data such that it would be possible for them to get access to all the old data’s in the future. The old data could act as a proof or for the purpose of reference the present workers and the management of the organization could use it. Moreover, the software such as SAP could be best software that could be used by the organization for the safety concern. This software allows getting access to the system only by the management or the individual having their verification installed in the system for the access (Kopetz, 2011).
According to the ICT specialists of the ABB Grain, they need to implement the change in the organization because the present IT system is not so effective. Moreover, it increases the costs of operation because manual operation in the IT system increases the costs to handle human resource in the company. Therefore, it is important to implement an effective and automatic IT system for the company.
By the use of cloud computing, the company can get a connection of internet the company could be at its work. As mobile applications are offered in the cloud computing, the company would not be bound by a particular device it has in its hand. The change is needed in the company to increase the job flexibility of workers. Creating work benefits that are more flexible, allows all employees maintaining work-life balance. The employees will be able to work from anywhere by the use of mobile apps.
The company is not getting the time to collaborate for the lack of visibility and often conflict arises as the employees are reviewing data from different perspectives. By means of cloud computing, all data will be stored automatically and centrally and thus the employees will see the same version of truth. Collaboration will surely be improved for the visibility it offers. ERP that the company has been using for five years has become old and in this newly changed competition market, the company is to try system that is more streamlined.
Different external influences such as technological advancements in the industry influence the change in the ABB grain. Along with that, adoption of the technological advancements by a different rival organization of the ABB Grain influences the change in the ABB Grain. This is because those technological advancements help their rival company to save some operational costs and help them to focus on their core expertise. Moreover, implementing technological advancements are becoming a trend in the market. For this reason, ABB Grain implements the change regarding IT in their company (Lee et al. 2013).
Along with the external influences, different internal influences such as increasing level of cost to handle the human resource of the company that are associated with handling the existing information technology of the company are the internal driver for implementing the change. Along with that, ineffective IT system of the company unnecessary creates which another driver is for change. The progress in the Iot has increased rapidly in the current year. It has been noticed that the medium have proved to determine the demand in the business organization. Therefore, the utilization of the medium would help the business to make its progress in the field as it would be able to determine the customer demand and accordingly it could work in the progress of their services and products. Thus, this wearable in the organization would help the organsiation to retain its progress and get the opportunity for further maximization in its growth. Moreover, the customers would also be satisfied with the demand being satisfied by the organization (Kopetz, 2011).
As the current IT structure of the ABB Grain is not satisfactory to generate effective results, therefore, the critical success factors regarding this is the achievement of an effective system that creates less confusion, very easy to operate, very easy to handle and maintain and emphasizes different operations regarding marketing, sales, inventory management and relationship maintenance with the customers.
If the flexibility in the organization can be increased, the agility level can lead the business getting a position in competitive market by leaving behind rival companies. As the company does not have vast resources, they should use something that would give access to economic scale. If the IT cost can be reduced largely, the company can increase profit margin. By using Cloud computing, the company can easily cut down different software cost, lower down use of various servers and staffs who are being paid for this service. However, the IT capabilities will not be reduced while using this.
If the mobility of a business is improved then more time can be utilize for making productivity bar high. By using mobile apps, the employees can work from anywhere they like by means of tablets or smart phones. Therefore, the progress in the network connection and the accessibility of internet the task could be performed in the devices such as smart phones and computers. Therefore, this would help the people to save time by using the medium of Iot. Moreover, the organization could further satisfy the workers with the medium, as it would have a link attached with the master computer that is operated in the office. Therefore, the employees could access their profile and work from home and in the meanwhile their task could be checked and reviewed by the team leader and the monitoring could be made possible (Kopetz, 2011)..
It would be helpful for the ABB Grain if they could implement the enterprise resource solution in their company. This is because; this kind of business management software can provide them with the opportunity to develop the inventory, payment, material management technique and the marketing and sales of the company (Dezdar and Ainin, 2011). However, it is really difficult for the ABB Grain to implement the ERP in the company because it requires support as well as initial investments that can increase the IT related costs of the company. For attracting more number of customers towards the organization, it is very important for ABB Grain to implement the CRM (Ernst et al. 2011). However, it has been observed that CRM is not enabled in mobile, though there is some upgrade available to the vendors that have different types of new features as well as capabilities along with the cloud computing options (Heller Baird and Parasnis, 2011). Therefore, it would be effective for the ABB Grain if they can implement the CRM in their company. According to Yang (2014), IoT allows different objects to be sensed as well as controlled from different remotely controlled devices. Therefore, IoT can help ABB Grains to handle the entire branch from a single place. M&A activity of the company should be facilitated. Traditional computing is pretty time consuming for decommissioning data and all and so in place of that the company should use cloud computing to make it more efficient and faster. They should also focus on the security of data. The company should have employees who have ideas about Networking, Linux Administration, Virtualization et cetera and if they have not, necessary trainings should be provided so that they can adapt changes in computing. A common platform should be established for the set up and monitoring. Therefore, it can reduce the cost to handle the IT system and increases effectiveness’s (Kopetz, 2011).
Conclusion:
From the above discussion, it can be said that there are many options available to the ABB Grains, from which they must select the best possible strategy that can help them to reduce the cists regarding the human resource related costs and the IT related costs. It has been observed that, among three different elements, ABB Grains should select the IoT because it can help them to maintain the integration. Along with that, it helps them to maintain an effective centralized structure by which they can reduce the costs to handle separate IT system in their different branch.
