The region I am writing about is: _Punjab
This region needs to prioritize:
The region mentioned in the assignment is Punjab. The food security in Punjab is needed to be prioritize as it contributes 28.13% of total agricultural products in India.
The main reason for the giving the priority regarding the food security in Punjab is that this state is the major contributor of the food grains in India. Apart from that the statistics are showing the changing behavior of the production of food grains in Punjab.
The current situation in Punjab shows that the agriculture sector is facing the dynamic changes. The changes in the agriculture sector is affecting the production of the crops and grains significantly. In this case, there are some other consequences happening due to these changes. It is claimed that the food security is dependent on the climate of the region. This claim can be regarded as the valid point as it has been seen that the production of the crops is largely dependent on the weather (Saxena, 2018). It has been seen that the climate change has certain effect on particular production of the food grains in Punjab the sudden change in the climate in Punjab has reduced the production of the rice , however, it has increased the production of the potatoes at the same time. It can be seen that the change in the climate will have negative impact on major crops like wheat, rice. On the other hand it has some positive impact on the production of groundnut, soybean.
Giving priority in the changing behavior of the food security in Punjab has helped to identified other factors regarding this matter. The change in the nature of the soil is affecting the production of the food grain. One of the major crop of Punjab is wheat. There are certain conditions of the soil and the climate for the good production of the wheat. The changing nature of the soil is affecting the productivity of the major food grains.
The increased population demand the better resource of allocation of the food. Apart from that proper policy making can ensure better management of the resources. Sustainable developments are needed to be taken care of in case of the framing techniques in order to increase the production of the food grains in Punjab (Godfray et al.,2010). However, this sustainable development indirectly supports the affects of the climate change and the significance of improper management of the land.
The average wheat production on Punjab was 40%. However, this percentage has been decreased to 30% in recent time (Pixley et al.,2017) . On the other hand it has been seen that the average yield recorded under FLD in Punjab for the production of the soybean has gone to 1875 kg/ha. This indicates a major scope of the wheat production for Punjab. It can be said that the change in the climate has both positive and negative impact on the agriculture sector of Punjab.
The percentage of the failure of the reformation of the land has been increased over the years. In 2002 the and distribution per person was 0.95 (Kumar & Kalita,2017). However, it has been decreased to 0.88 in 2016.
According to some of the resources the improper management of the land may not be the major issue (Singh,2016). It has been noticed that the uneven distribution of the land has been done. However, that does not effect on the production of the food grains as the climate , infrastructure are provided in a proper way.
In 1975, the total food consumption in Punjab was 15 %. However, this has increased to 25% in recent years (Grover & Chopra,2017). It can be clearly stated that the consumption of food grains has been increased with the growth of the population.
The overall condition in the agriculture sector indicates that there is a scope for maintain the food security in this state. However, there is a chance of hampering of the food security because the climates are changing. The rate of pollution is increasing along with the population.
Identification of the main reason for changing the nature of the food security in Punjab will help the framers and the policy makers to deal with the upcoming challenges in future regarding the allocation of the food resources to the people. Proper modification and the improvisation of the distribution of the food grains can be done along with utilization of new opportunities in agriculture. This will help in the overall improvement of the food security of Punjab.
The identification of the changes in the agriculture filed will help to identify certain consequences in the food security of Punjab. In this case, proper security measures can be taken into account. The increased growth of the other food products like soybean is good for this state, however the decreased percentage of the wheat production is a major concern. The changing pattern of the agriculture will affect the food habit the people of Punjab. In this case, the priority is needed to be given in order to know the changing scenario of the agriculture situation of Punjab.
Apart from that Punjab is considered as the major contributor of the wheat in India. In this case the decreased rate of the production of the wheat in Punjab can affect the food security of the people of the whole nation.
Another thing this region could prioritize is
Another thing the region could give the priority is the changing food habit of the people with changed food habit. It has been seen that the food security is related to the food habit of the people which is also dependent on the economic condition of the state.
The identification of the reason for the change in the agricultural situation in Punjab will help to identify the drawbacks of these changes. It will also provide an outline for the taking the required policies and the technologies for overcoming those problems. Apart from that this also help to identify the impacts of the change in the food security in Punjab.
The identification of these factors will be helpful in order to increase the wheat and rice production in Punjab and balance the food security in the state.
WHY is this priority not as essential/helpful/urgent/important as main idea? Identify at least one reason.
It has been said that the wheat production has gone down in the Punjab region. However, in the recent news it has been seen that Punjab has produced record wheat in current year. Apart from that the use of the advanced infrastructure and technology has helped the state to maintain its position in the agriculture sector and maintain food security.
Evidence to include from your research and readings
Recently Punjab has seen the production of wheat , an increased rate of 33% which is 129 LMT. This value is highest in last six years (Grover & Chopra,2017). This value contradicts the claim of the decreased amount of wheat production in Punjab. Moreover, the main reason for the increased wheat production is stated as the climate in Punjab has helped in the production of wheat. The fact contradicts the main claim of negative effect of the changed weather in the agriculture.
The Punjab land Revenue act has imposed the rules those ensure the proper distribution of the land (Saxena, 2018). This argument counters the claim of improper distribution of the land in agriculture.
So therefore, by prioritizing agriculture sector of Punjab, the region can benefit through sustainable food security , and advanced agriculture business.
