The future scope of the advanced registered nurse will greatly change with the growing demands for quality and safe care by the patients. The changing trends in the healthcare sector around the world will continue to evolve and advanced registered nurses will have to abide by these changes. The present impetus for advanced registered nurse (ARN) range of practice expansion is the breach in access to eminence care, particularly primary care. Thus, the physicians joining primary care are constantly declining, whilst the number of nurse practitioners (NPs) is growing (Hayes, Zive, Ferrell & Tolle, 2017). The shortage of primary care physicians has been connected to many factors that include augmented demand for healthcare due to aging of the “baby boomer” generation and the growing demand of lately insured Affordable Care Act (ACA) beneficiaries, as well as declined supply and declined curiosity from medical learners in primary care. The paper will explore my future scope as a registered practice nurse, exploring healthcare organizations that will advance the scope and influence of advanced nursing and examine an evolving issue as an advanced registered nurse (Auerbach et al., 2013).
Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) as part of advanced registered nurse practice plays a leading role in offering clinical expertise and caring for patients with diverse needs. The current scope of ARN is founded on the need to develop great skills and knowledge to penetrate the primary care and provide safe and high-quality care among the patients. As an advanced registered nurse, the healthcare setting is greatly changing that will demand that nurses should embrace education and training towards attaining the nursing goals (Cherry, 2016). These emerging along with expanding roles of registered nurses will require that I apply nursing knowledge in novel means, and the expansion of novel skills, nonetheless, the present learning programs differ significantly in their capability to organize nurses for the developing healthcare system, which would stress responsibility for the health of the populace and put advanced registered nurses in responsibilities, which deal with the more and more multifaceted requirements of patients with many severe diseases (Huang & Finegold, 2013).
Therefore, in this novel system, as a registered nurse, I should consistently use knowledge coupled with constant learning healthcare system, which includes care coordination plus transitional care. Furthermore, in order to meet these growing demands, there is the need to optimize care via the use of information in addition to evidence, frequently gleaned from electronic medical records (EMR); work together interprofessionally, as well as aggressively take on in performance enhancement. The coordination plays a central role in supporting integrated care across the diverse populations seeking primary care. The coordination is important in allowing me as a registered nurse to make the patients understand along with manages their conditions, which include patient education programs, motivational interviewing methods, providing referrals to community-based services, as well as visiting patients at their homes (Kleinpell, Cook & Padden, 2018). In a clinical setting, the scope is driven by the need to promote collaboration in terms of service provision to patients that need these services. Possibly the increased job satisfaction is linked to autonomous roles and contribution to high-quality care. Therefore, as a registered nurse, it will within the scope of the practice provide clinical services that will promote quality care among patients. In the current health setting, patients are aware of the need to quality services where registered nurses should provide clinical leadership that will ensure that patient gets high-quality care (Jennings, Clifford, Fox, Oconnell & Gardner, 2015).
State nurse licensing boards regulate the content of nursing education and might need to change rules that govern entry-level nursing programs to make sure that graduates have new skills and competencies required. The licensing board should revise the requirements on clinical experiences for pre-licensure students to integrate extra ambulatory experiences. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing offers a national licensing exam for advanced registered nurses, called the NCLEX. The NCLEX is revised periodically to make sure that content is updated and relevant. Pre-licensure education programs plan their curricula to make sure graduates may pass this exam more easily (Poghosyan, Boyd & Knutson, 2014).
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is a professional nursing organization that has a leading role in advancing the scope of my nursing. The organization is instrumental in providing registered nurses with a unified way to network and advocate their concerns in the healthcare sector. Thus, the assignment of AANP is to enhance the high standards of healthcare provided by advanced registered nurse practitioners, as well as function as a platform to promote the identity along with the stability of all healthcare practitioner specialists, such as clinical nurse specialists. This implies that the primary mission of AANP is to empower all nurses’ practitioners, especially the advanced registered nurses to advance high-quality healthcare through practice, advocacy, education, leadership, as well as research (Farina, 2016).
International Council of Nurses (ICN) Nurse Practitioner
International Council of Nurses (ICN) Nurse Practitioner was founded to offer an international resource for nurses taking part in advanced registered nurse roles along with others, like educators, policymakers, regulators and health planners. The organization has the role of disseminating timely, relevant and accurate information that is important in improving healthcare outcomes and improves the knowledge of the nurses. This offers a power international dimension and global coordination and support for the work of the nursing network (Schober, 2018).
American Nurses Association (ANA)
The American Nurses Association (ANA) is a specialized organization, which was created to safeguard the interests of the nurses and promote the scope of the nursing job, especially among the registered nurses. The organization is designed to establish nursing standards, promoting the rights of the nurses in the place, advancing the economic, as well as the general welfare of nurses. This is important in allowing registered nurses to develop the nursing skills towards promoting their scope. Furthermore, AMA is involved in the development of mechanisms that will guarantee professional accountability among registered nurses (Gomez, 2017).
Evaluation of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Nurse Practitioner
This organization plays a fundamental role in promoting the scope of the nursing practice among the advanced registered nurses being a global organization. The primary philosophy of ICN as a global body is to develop a network. Therefore, its mission is to become an international resource for nurses practicing in advanced registered nurses roles, along with interested others that include regulators, policymakers, as well as health planners. The network makes relevant and timely information regarding education, practice, role development, policy, research, as well as regulatory developments. Furthermore, they provide registered nurses with the platform that allows them to share and exchanged knowhow expertise along with the experience. In addition, the organization as a network promotes the scope of the practice of the registered nurses by supporting them and nations that are in the course of introducing or developing ANP roles along with practice. Also, ICN plays a primary role in allowing the ARN to access international resources that will enable them to improve their knowledge and develop the necessary platform to handle the many challenges of healthcare sector, especially the primary care (Schober, 2016).
Evolving Issue
Because a number of states in American undertake vital changes in the healthcare sector, it is important that ARNs start to turn their concentration outward, look at the best practice models of providing high-quality care and look for prospects locally, state-wide, and countrywide to develop these practices. This needs an effective regulatory framework that will guide the practice, which is not the case in the current advanced registered nurse practice. Regulations across different states have been a great concern among healthcare stakeholders because it has continued to create bottlenecks for the scope and role of the ARN (Dower, Moore & Langelier, 2013). The legislation will continue to be a controversial issue that will affect the expansion of ARN practice towards offering a uniform care across the United States because of the current legislation on the role and scope of ARN because of the non-uniformity issue. The regulatory issue is a grave issue that will affect many stakeholders in the field of nursing, which include the regulatory agencies, policymakers, state NP associations, trainers, health administrators, as well as state legislators. This will be profound because there will be no single regulatory framework that will govern the practice of advanced registered nurse countrywide making it difficult to regulate the practice. This regulatory challenge has been evident in many states when it comes to reimbursement policies in the healthcare sector (Gadbois, Miller, Tyler & Intrator, 2015).
Conclusions
The advanced registered nurse practice is a growing field towards promoting effective and high-quality healthcare among the population. The growing need of the primary care has seen the growth of advanced registered nurse scope because of the growing demand for quality care among the patients. There is the need to develop clear policies and legislation towards the development of advanced registered nurse practice due to the high demand for primary occasioned by the inadequate supply of advanced registered nurses. Therefore, the controversial issue of legislation should be addressed at the national level to promote the scope of advanced registered nurse practice.
