For my Senior Project, I decided to raise awareness for animal abuse. Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to work in a career that involves animals, so I decided on becoming a veterinary technician. I have lived on a farm all my life and being around animals showed me the love I have for them. As I choose this for my Senior Project, I hope I can teach people what to do if they see animal abuse. I presented to Mrs.
Miller’s second and third period classes about animal abuse on October 17, 2018. After presenting to the seventh graders, I hope my project showed them how to help an animal in need or what to do if they witness animal abuse.
Every time I’m on social media, I see posts saying that someone found an animal that was lost or has been abandon. I also see posts that the local humane societies and animal shelters have posted saying that they need help with supplies or that they need donations to help with animals that have been injured when they were found.
Driving around in my community or the surrounding communities around me, I see animals that are just wondering around looking like they have been starved and looking scared. Over the years I have wanted to help them, so when it was time for me to do my Senior Project, I decided revolving it around animals in some way will be my way to help them.
The pet supplies that was needed was dog food, cat food, puppy pads, cat litter, treats, toys, collars and blankets.
I started to contact pet stores and stores that sell pet supplies to see if they would like to donate. I made a box with my Senior Project flyer on it and placed it in the office of Meadow Bridge High School for the students and teachers to donate pet supplies. After collecting all the supplies, I divided it up between the Greenbrier, Raleigh, and Fayette County Humane Societies. The look on the employees faces at the humane societies as I brought in the supplies was priceless. It made me happy knowing that I helped my local humane societies and the animals that needed help.
I plan to attend Pierpont Community and Technical College in the upcoming fall. I plan to attend Pierpont’s veterinary technician program. I have always had a love for animals and growing up on a farm has helped me. It has showed me how to love and care for animals and what to do in hard times. Now I think it is time for me to give back to the animals in any way I can.
