This report is based on the identification and planning for the procurement of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems. The company is As-Sabuur Nigeria Limited. The primary objective of the company is to install generators in various houses and other organisations. The company provides such kind of power back-up services in places which face power outages. As-Sabuur Nigeria Limited, which is a reputed name in the market was registered 5 years ago in Nigeria. The company provides the installation services of UPS systems within various houses.
As per the present project criteria, it has been seen that the houses in Nigeria face some serious problems in relation to power outages. The company has been contracted to provide the service of installing generator within a particular house. The project plan would be designed by the project manager of the organisation who would be aware of the latest generator systems and would thus provide various kind of planning suggestions in relation to the installation phase. The installation of the generator systems within the house would prove to be highly beneficial as the company would be able to gain additional financial returns in the future. Greater kind of financial return would enable the company to pay the labours with their desired wages. In the current project case, it has been identified that the house would need two units of Prekins generators in order to provide uninterrupted power supply in case of power outages. The generators that would be installed within the house would have power capacity of 50 Kva and 20 Kva. The 50 Kva generator would be used all time during the day, while the 20 Kva generator would be used only during the time of power outage within the house.
As per the requirement of the project, the project manager would be responsible for performing initial work of planning the entire idea of the project. The project manager would plan the entire project structure and would submit it before the owner of the house for their approval. After a proper project approval from the owner of the house, the project manager would procure the generators, plan for the installation work and perform test runs after the installation process. The project manager would also hold responsibility to assign a fixed date for initiating the work on the project, plan a financial budget for the project and also set an end date for the project. Hence, after the installation of the project, the project manager would also ensure that the quality of project is maintained throughout. The early detection of defects would be identified and thus the project manager should define proper strategies for a mitigation plan.
In the present case study, it has been identified that the initiating the installation of generators would be highly helpful for a particular house in Nigeria. The location of the project is in Abuja, Nigeria. The concerned place is not covered under the 24 hours electric supply range and hence faces tremendous problems due to power outages. The people living in the house face serious issues as they are not able to perform their regular work without a proper power supply.
The owner of the house is Lawal Fudi and he is responsible for contacting As-Sabuur Nigeria Limited to help them in installing the two units of generator sets in the house. In order to mitigate the problem, a particular solution is extremely necessary to be implemented within the house. This kind of viable solution would be able to help the house owner in mitigating the problems that are presently occurring due to power outages.
In the present case study, the concerned stakeholders involved within the project are the house owner, project manager and site project lead. The owner of the house would contact the generator supplier for arranging the entire project. On the other hand, the project manager who is the owner of the business would design the entire project schedule. They would design the plan for the installation work on the generator, prepare a financial plan for the project and then initiate the project after a formal approval from the house owner. The site project lead would design the structure within the site and then install the generator within the proper place within the house. The design for the financial management plan that would be designed by the project manager would help the owner in understanding the cost breakdown structure for the individual costs that are incurred within the project. Based on the plan for the investments that would be made during the installation phase, the future outcomes or benefits could be determined. The project manager would also ensure that the quality of the generators are retained after the phase of installation has been completed. Ensuring a proper quality and maintenance of the generators would be helpful for gaining longer service from the product.
The project plan for the installation work over the project would incur certain processes that would be essential for the successful execution of the project. The project, which is based on the installation of two unit of generators would require the help of the project manager who would be entirely responsible for understanding the proper requirements of the client and would thus define certain strategies that would be needed for the completion of the project in a successful manner.
During the work over the project, the project would initiate by performing a negotiation work with the owner of the house. The signing of the necessary documents by both the parties would provide an assurance that the project would initiate. After the documents have been signed, the procurement of generators and other accessories would begin. The site manager lead would take a proper measurement of the area under which the generators would be installed. After the installation phase has been made, test runs would be conducted for ensuring that there is no such faults within the concerned system. After the phase of installation has been completed, a proper monitoring and control over the operations of the generator should be made. This would ensure that the ensured risks could be controlled. After the entire installation phase has been completed, the closure phase of the project would be made. The payment to contractors and other staffs would be made during this phase. After accomplishing the project work, feedback would be gained from the house owner. This would be highly helpful for estimating the success criteria of the project.
The milestones for the project are:
The budget for the project is aimed at $39,520. The payback for the period is 2 years.
The assumptions that could be included within the installation work of the project are:
The risks that could approach towards the project during the installation phase of the project are:
Based on the approach risks that are discussed, the plans for mitigating them could be:
During the process of installation of the generators within the house, the project manager should have some personal skills that would be required for installing the generator set. The project manager should have an extensive knowledge of the entire process of installation of the generators.
The skills that would be required by the project manager in the context of environmental stimuli are:
The strengths of the project manager is that they have a good form of technical knowledge in relation with the installation and testing of the generators. However, certain weakness are present within the project manager, which might have much kind of negative impacts towards the project. These weakness are in relation to soft-spoken nature and low interaction with the client during the time of performing the work of installation. These skills would be highly required for the performing the work of installation and ensure the best kind of financial benefits for the business.
