While greeting each other, hugging and kissing is not customary in opposite sex. A Hindu “Namaskar”, by clasping the palms of both hands together and holding them vertically in front of chest, and a handshake is acceptable. For showing respect “namaskar” is used as well. There is no huge touch sensitivity but in temples, men and women sit separately while attending prayers.

Part C: What interpersonal behaviour characteristics are important to know in the workplace? Forexample:Seating – who should sit next to who? How are younger people expected to greet, speak to and treat their elders?

There is no such seating rule in the workplace but younger people are always expected to greet first with the older people. Sometimes a standing obsession is much necessary while treating elders respectfully.

__In my simulated workplace, some Hindu festivals are celebrated and there is no any particular restriction regarding dress code but a formal attire is acceptable. Among most of the Hindus, beef or beef products are restricted as they belief cow is sacred. So, avoiding such food, while working with Hindus is a good choice.

1. Wearing correct attire as per the majority.
2. Greeting elders respectfully.
3. Avoiding foods which others do not accept.

Cultural diversity means having various types of cultures in a same place. In our workplace, different ethnic groups of different religions are present. All are working together within same environment.

I am from an Australian Christian family and my language is English. There is no sensitivity regarding touch that I inherited from my family. I have learnt from my parents to hug or handshake a person while greeting. My parents have taught me to give equal respect to all the religions.  

Q5 b.How do you think these cultural influences could impact on workplace colleaguesthat come from totally different backgrounds to yours

In my workplace, most of the colleagues are Hindu and their way of greeting people is a little different than we do in our culture. They celebrate some different religious festivals and they also maintain restrictions in some particular food. So, at the preliminary stage, all these cultural influences could impact on my workplace as I am from a different background.

Political

Cultural diversity has brought benefits in the political aspect of the workplace. Due to the presence of people of various cultures, global communication has become easier.

Australian society

The society of Australia has become a diverse community due to cultural diversity. Multiculturalism is responsible for the development of the country.

Economic

Due to the presence of various cultures, global communication is possible and it increases the opportunity of investment from other countries as well which is good for the economy of Australia.

Culture

Cultural diversity has enriched the cultural value of Australia with its variety.

Helen is a support worker who is 6 months pregnant.  She applies for a promotional opportunity as a team leader.  The selection panel choose a different candidate because they anticipate Helen will be going on parental leave soon and when she returns to work is likely to want to do so part-time anyway.

This act sets the rule to treat all the workers with equal respect irrespective of their ages. Workers should work as per their skill but not as per their ages (Sargeant, 2016).

This act requires me to work with all co-workers respectfully despite of being from different races.

Area 1

Employment was one of the biggest key issues among the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders since many years. When compared to other non-indigenous Australians the employment rate among them was almost 24% lesser.

Area 2

Life expectancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people was almost ten years lesser than the non-aboriginal people. This is due to Higher rates of heart disease, respiratory problem and diabetes among them which leads to death (Truong, Paradies & Priest, 2014).

 Some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples find the Western health care system very confronting and difficult to understand.

You have a new client or a new co-worker who does not speak English very well. You would like to get some help for communication.

Q15a. List three (3) problems that can arise from using untrained interpreters in a health care setting?

1. Untrained interpreters may be unfamiliar with technical terms used in healthcare setting.
2. They may result in miscommunication and that results in diagnosis error.
3. They may interpret their own view about patients’ health condition.

Q15b. Explain why you need to use a competent/trained interpreter at critical times in health care?

An untrained interpreter may create communication gap which leads to dangerous diagnosis and medication error. Apart from that, untrained may not be familiar with all the medical terms. So, it is necessary to use a properly trained interpreter in the healthcare services. 

Q15c. How could using pictures, images, and/or a picture dictionary help you to communicate with a client and/or co-worker who doesn’t speak English very well?

If interpreter is not present, then using pictures or images and picture dictionary can help to elaborate many words showing pictures only. Some important terms can be expressed using image or pictures.

 Question 17: Impact of diversity practices

One impact of culturally diverse practices and experiences is learning to appreciate and understand people who come from backgrounds different to our own.

17a) If you were to travel to complete work experience in the main countrythat this culture/religion is based in, what personal behaviour would you need to change?

I would change my style of greeting others by using “Namaskar”. Many changes in the consumption of food would also be necessary. I would completely cut beef from my meal and would also reduce consumption of alcohol. 

17b).Interpersonal relationships that you form at work serve a critical role in both your work success and career progress. Positive interpersonal relationships will allow effective communication and understanding among employees.  Describe one strategy you could use to form a positive interpersonal relationship with a person from this culture/religion Celebrating the Hindu festivals along with them will help to build positive interpersonal relationships with them.

In typical Australian workplace it is acceptable to hug or kiss opposite sex while greeting, so a person from this religion should adopt this social expectation.­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­
