Essay:
Leadership can be defined as the ability of the person to deal with the people who follow him. It is the capability of an individual to lead and persuade the other person in order to make hers work. Leadership has undergone, any changes till now and the perception of the people have also changed regarding the characteristics of a leader (Tschan, Semmer, Hunziker, Kolbe, Jenni & Marsch, 2014). It has been analysed that no leadership strategy can be used in every situation thus the leaders have to take up different strategies of leadership in different situations. Some of the situation and the roles of leaders are discussed in the essay in order to understand the leadership characteristics in different situations.
If the case of CEO of the company is considered, it has been analysed that CEO of the company has to play the role of a leader as well as the manager. He is the one who has to take many decisions now and then. There are many employees in the company or especially in the MNC with different cultural and linguistic background, thus it is required by the management of the company to consider the views of each and every group of employees before making any decisions. It is the situation where transformational leadership is required by the CEO. This is because transformation leadership is the leadership type that deals with persuading others on your own beliefs. It is required by the CEO of the company o handle the people in hi on way and earns their trust only then they believe their leader (Northouse, 2015). The CEO needs to create a vision that is for the benefit of organizations as well as for the employees. After that, the CEO needs to motivate the employees to have belief in that vision that has been made. For this, the leaders have to show the beneficial side of that vision of the employees to them. This is because this is the part of interest for the employees. If the vision of the CEO lack the benefits for the employees then it becomes tough for the leader to influence the employees. In transformational leadership, motivational theories and strategies are implemented so that they can be used to influence and motivate the employees. If the employees of the company remain motivated they believe in their organizations and its policies if they feel demotivated, they revel against the policies (Mathew & Rakesh, 2016). This may rupture the scenario and also the leadership impact on the employees. It has been analysed that many leaders fails to attain the vision they have set for the company and the employees and this also may ruin the trust among the company. The CEO of the company should manage the vision that has been set accordingly and time to time by implementing some of the strategies or the project management approaches so that the vision can be achieved by the company and the employees (Tal & Gordon, 2016). CEO is the one who has to act as the manger and the leader thus he has to have the characteristics of a leader to transform the thinking of the followers and have the quality of maintaining that transformation that is the responsibility of the manager in the company.
Another scenario of leadership of a prime minister or the president is considered, it has been analysed that the prime minister or the president has to rule over a country which has many people. Leading and organization and leading a whole country are two very different sceneries. Thus, contingency approach needs to be applied or used by the prime minister or the president of a country (Lim, Moon, Kang & Yang, 2016). This is because country may face many issues at different times and thus the leaders have to manage the situation accordingly. As per the case, if one leadership style needs to be selected for prime minister or the president then it should be democratic leadership. It is the leadership style that deals with considering the opinions of the followers also at the time of making decisions. In democracy, the followers chose their one leader and this also provides the followers with the sense of power (Gruber, Smerek, Thomas-Hunt & James, 2015). Democratic countries are the countries which are ruled by the leaders who cannot make the decision for the people alone; they have to consider the opinions and views of the public before making any of the decision. it is not the scene that public is the one who takes the decision, decision always remains in the hand of the government or the leaders but public plays a very important part in it. Democratic leadership for prime minister or the president is considered as the best leadership because it is not possible to rule country with dictatorship. In this case, some of the people feel neglected because dictatorship gives birth to biasness and this may lead to wars among the people (Nahavandi, 2016). Ruling a country is a very responsible job. This is because any decision that has been made affects the whole country and the people of that country. Sometimes, the government has to make decision that is not in benefits to the people of all classes but the decision is made for the long terms benefit of the people. if the situation of tax rise is considered, the government or the leaders such as prime minister or the president take the decision of rising the tax rate in the country which may affect the purchasing power of the people but that tax that has been collected for the people is going to benefit them only in future in some other ways (Dinh, Lord, Gardner, Meuser, Liden & Hu, 2014). Thus, the leaders that are governed by prime minister or the president are futuristic and not consider only the present situation.
There are many types of leadership and there are many different types of situation and scenarios where leadership is requires. Two of them are already discussed. Contrasting to the above situation, the leadership is also followed by a sports coach. Dictatorship or autocratic leadership style should be followed by a sports coach (Antonakis, 2017). This is because it is the scenario where the any of the sport needs to be taught to the players. For this, the leader has to be strict and the decision should always be in the hands of the boss or the leader. Any type of relaxation of leniency in sports is not beneficial for the sports person. Autocratic leadership style is the style which is leaders centred or the boss centred. The leader is the one who makes all the decision as per the situation. It is the leadership in which all the guidelines that are set by the leaders have to be followed by the players (Chemers, 2014). This is basic requirement to learn any kind of sports. This is because there is much technical knowledge that needs to be learned from the experienced person who has played that sport and these can be learned by them only. Every sport has a process and the guidelines in order to play that. These guidelines cannot be change for anybody and thus it is required to be very strict and committed to those guidelines. If the example of cricket is considered, it has been identified that it has some rules that is standard and is set since years which are followed by the people till now (McCleskey, 2014). Sports coaches in terms of making the players learn about those rules have to prepare them for those rules. A sports coach has to prepare the players for any of the worst case scenarios on the ground and thus it is required for the sports coach to be an autocratic leader. It has been analysed that only one leadership style cannot be followed in case of sports coach. This is because, for players it is required to learn about the team work. Thus, the leader also has to make them learn about how the team works together and decision making is also very important part of sports. The players need to learn that when to take the decision and which decision need to be taken at that time. These things can only be learned by the experience and practice. putting any other leadership style in this situation is not justified because of the sports coach starts listening to the layers the it may not be possible to make them learn about the standard rules and regulations the game (Gregoire & Arendt, 2014).
It has been concluded from the above discussion that leadership playa aery important part. There are many kinds of leadership that can be used at different scenarios. It is not possible to deal with everything by leading in a single style. In above all scenarios, different types of leaders have selected different types of leadership style to lead the followers. The CEO has to use transformational leadership while the prime minister or the president has to use the leadership that is democratic nature. The last is abo the sports coach who has to use autocratic leadership and he needs to be strict and follow the guidelines that are already set.
