Leadership in the hospital is the ability to influence the staff toward providing quality health care. Leadership involves influencing human behavior to create a positive working environment (Langlois, 2012). Good leadership enables healthy relationships among staffs in the hospital enhancing quality delivery of health care services. Leadership is responsible to building teams that have trust, respect, support and effective in communication in the workplace. Leadership strategies are tactics that can be used to bring a positive environment that is favorable for staff to performance their duties (Manion, 2011).
The following write up will discuss the leadership strategies to be implemented in building healthy relationship among staff member in a hospital. The write up also suggests a psychological strategy that can increase positive to negative interactions in the workplace.
The following are leadership strategies to be implemented to build and foster healthy relationships in a nursing health care hospital; developing staff skills, identifying relationships needs and creating a positive environment for working. Developing staffs skill is the beginning to having good team in the workplace. This will ensure that all nurses are competence and therefore their actions are reliable. Developing skills for staffs’ strategy will also enable nurses working together by giving support to one another. In this case I will target all categories of nurse to ensure improvement of skills in all levels. These include the LPN, RNs and assistant nurses. Second strategy is identifying relationships that exist in the workplace and their need. This strategy enables understanding the requirements of the relationships and thereby enabling appropriate measures to restore or foster healthy interaction in the workplace. In this case I will concentrate on assistant nurses to enable them to working long hours with the patients after treatments and education has been offered by the RNs. Another leadership strategy is creating a positive environment through interventions that foster positive emotions in the workplace (Isolani, 2013). These include extrinsic motivational interventions that enable positive emotions and morale in the workplace. This strategy will be important to be implemented in the all level of nurses in the workplace to foster coordination and support of staffs in the hospital.
In order to implement leadership strategy it important to incorporate a positive psychology strategy that can improve positive to negative interactions in the workplace. In this case I will use non linear approach of leadership and implement six principles psychological strategies to increase positive to negative interactions. The non linear approach of leading the staff will create a positive psychological workplace that will enable employees do things on their good will rather than pushing them to perform their duties (Langlois, 2012). The six principle strategy will involve implementation of the PROPEL strategy that will foster positive psychology in the workplace. These include creating an environment that promotes individual’s passion, optimism, proactivity, relationships, energy and legacy. These strategies will enable the staff increase positive to negative psychological emotions in the workplace. The rationale of these strategies is to enable the leadership in the workplace to promote a good working environment that meets employees’ expectations and thereby retaining them in the organization.
Conclusion
From the discussion, leadership in the health care organization has to shift from command-control style to incorporate new approaches that are focused on enabling healthy relationships and interactions in providing quality service. This implies that modern workplaces leaders should concentrate on building healthy relationships and promoting positive to negative psychological interactions by formulating and implementing good strategies in the workplaces.
