Obesity is one of the major disorders observed globally; this involves the deposition of excessive amounts of fats in the body. Many medical problems are associated with obesity; there is a risk of various disorders and health issues, such as heart disorders, high blood pressure, and higher sugar levels (Bortolin et al. 2018). This essay will focus on obesity among the people of the United Kingdom and its management for its control. Therefore, people are concerned about losing weight to live healthier lives. In a few of the cases, obesity is inherited, meaning it runs in the families. This can be controlled through various activities such as doing physical activities and aerobic exercises (Saidi et al. 2021). In a health survey, it has been observed that twenty-eight adults in the United Kingdom are overweight. The overweight is measured through the Body mass index.
Health Survey for England was carried out. It was observed that around thirty-one percent of the adults in England or the United Kingdom were observed to have clinically obese according to Body mass index. These adults had more body mass index that is more than thirty in the year 2018. In this survey, it has also been found that around sixty-three adults were overweight during the year 1993 (Scholes and Mindell 2018). Enhancing the level of obesity in England has become one of the Challenges For Healthy Lifestyles. It has been expected that around 2030, around eleven million will become obese, resulting in various diseases such as diabetes and heart strokes.
Many people consume different kinds of foods outside their homes. Many of the television shows in the United Kingdom have encouraged people to rely less on fast foods of McDonald’s and Burger King. Streets foods are not healthier as they are rich in bad quality of fat; this enhances the calorie level as well as poor healthier life (Hebebrand and Gearhardt 2021). The major causes of obesity among people are genetics, overeating habits, frequent eating, inactivity in physical activities, and some disorders such as hypothyroidism insulin resistance; these contribute to obesity (Hebebrand and Gearhardt 2021). Sometimes stress and some of the emotional factors also lead to obesity and overweight. It is an argumentative statement that Body mass index is the only measurable object for obesity; there can be other factors that estimate the weight and fat levels in the body. Body mass index just provides a number, but it did not recognize the level of fat and the potential cause of obesity (Jaichuen et al. 2019). In the current situation, people are adapted to have screen work as their employees, and they do not get enough time to enjoy outside. This has resulted in a poor lifestyle and the development of obesity. People with overweight are more discriminated against, or they are being compared with normal people. This is because people do not think of the actual reason for the overweight. Sometimes, metabolic activities of the body can become slow, which could be why people suffer from obesity (Reitman 2018). It is argued that people having hyperthyroidism generally gain weight; this has not been caused by eating junk food or lack of exercise (Hebebrand and Gearhardt 2021).
According to the UN Food and Agriculture, the United Kingdom has been considered the fat man of Europe as one in four adult people of England are overweight (Krzysztoszek et al. 2019). According to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, the major factors concerning obesity are enhancement in adapting the modern lifestyles, sitting long hours in front of Televisions and Computers, and intake of high calorie of food (Jaichuen et al. 2019). Professor Terence Stephenson has declared obesity a national crisis, which has been the greatest public health issue for the United Kingdom. Obesity has become around three times when compared with 1980. Children in the United Kingdom are becoming more obese as their diet is improper. Some of the conditions or due to some disorders, the hormones of the body become disturbed, this can help also lead to overweight (Ilich et al. 2020).
The obesity crisis has been developed because of some of the environmental factors and some of the people’s decisions that change their lifestyle; this kind of environmental factor is referred to as the obesogenic environment (McDonnell et al. 2019). This is concerned for the locations, mostly in urban areas that generally encourage consumption of unhealthy eating and reduced physical activity. Clever food marketing encourages the inactivity and consumption of more food than the requirement (Jaichuen et al. 2019). Professor Jebb analyzed that the consequences of abundance and easiness in modern life have led to the storage of fat in the body, resulting in obesity. It has been found that adults mostly spend time in front of the screen, reading. On average, there are very few physical activities on weekends as people sit before television. People are observed to spend their free time indoors because of safety concerns (Ilich et al. 2020). Playing outside has now become more of a safety concern, and in a few societies, there is a lack of parks and green spaces for playing outdoor games. Longer working hours or sitting at a single position has limited the physical activities during the working hours (Bontrup et al. 2019). Obese females, when compared with the healthier females, are likely to develop around thirteen times to develop type 2 diabetes, women are likely to have more than 4 times to have higher hypertension, and there is a high risk of heart disorders. When people have a lot of resources for food, they definitely will consume more food from various resources (Ilich et al. 2020). Most people have argued that people belonging to the lower-income group are more prone to develop obesity as they are not getting proper nourishing food, and they can easily get fast foods that are not healthy for them (Hebebrand and Gearhardt 2021).
There is a need to reverse the trends of overweight; this can be efficiently done through societies’ efforts when these people will think differently (D’Innocenzo et al 2019). For various businesses and government organizations, they are focusing on developing a good environment that will support the development of the new habits and the consumption of healthier food. This has also focused on the major involvement of the people in a lot of physical activities so that they can remain a healthy lifetime. This process will require a great shift in the people’s thinking, and the not only government will be able to resolve the problems (McDonnell et al. 2019). A person should be more concerned to have a healthier and happy life; this action needs to be taken at an individual level, they should be able to think about their healthy lifestyles. A long-term strategy goal is required to set or to deal with the challenges against the overweight problems. Cuba is a successful country in reversing the overweight issues; this was observed during the 1990s when there was a shortage of food and poor economic conditions (Blüher 2019). This case has led to great weight loss for every individual in Cuba to have less weight. This resulted in a significant drop in various disorders such as cardiovascular disorders, fewer insulin levels, higher hypertension. Based on research, it has been found that it was concluded that the government of Cuba and people who took national initiatives were asked to eat less food and to pay attention to physical activities such as exercise (Ilich et al. 2020). This has supported the people of Cuba in tackling the overweight issues. The United Kingdom government is now putting efforts into this obesity issue and supporting their people to make healthier choices.
Obesity can be managed by maintaining a proper healthier plan for eating healthier food and doing regular exercises. This can also be managed by altering the habits and by doing weight management plans. Some of the special diets can be consumed to maintain proper health and weight. Health management programs are also beneficial. Encouragement for family members and friends also supports changing the lifestyle. Herber remedies are also available, and some of the supplements will also help reduce weight (McDonnell et al. 2019). Intermittent fasting is another way of reducing weight. This has been very effective in losing the weight of the person (Ganesan et al. 2018).
This topic is debatable as food is not only source for gaining weight, there are few other factors such as hyperthyroidism that result in weight gain. Some of the interventions, such as intermittent fasting and regular exercises, have shown good results in reducing weight; some of the programs for reducing weight have been very beneficial for these obese people. From various sources, it has been found that different metabolic activities have led to changes in hormone levels that can increase weight (Ilich et al. 2020). Most of the adults in the United Kingdom are obese compared to females. Obesity is one of the vital contemporary health concerns. It is one of the leading causes of major disorders such as diabetes.
