Task 1 – Organisational structure of Clearabee

The report argues on the case study Clearabee on its way to nationwide roll-out. The study quotes that Clearabee is the organisation which initiated on September 2012 by Daniel Long and Rob Linton. It hired 5 people in Scotland who started operating the rubbish removal trucks. This service covered almost area of UK and there household contributed around 90% of the waste removal. Clearabee is now going to establish the chain of waste removal and recycle in Northern Ireland and to enhance the business into Republic of Ireland.

Reports involve the selection of organisational structure to be followed by Clearabee. Modern management techniques are studied and best strategy is selected which shall fulfil the requirement in every possible situation. At the end organisational growth and expansion could be monitored and methods for development are selected by analysing through strategic framework.

From the entire report functionality, maintenance and progress can be understood by the way of adopting divergent strategies and management approach beneficial for managers, employees and organisation as a whole.

Organisational structure is the framework which enables the appropriate and systematic carry of work. It is a set structure which defines the roles, responsibility and authority of the staff. Organisational structure helps in clarifying the accountability of the employees. It is the hierarchy that need to be followed for establishing efficient and effective working (Community tool box, 2017). There are various type of organisational structure which suits as per the nature and size of the business. These structures are: line and staff, functional, divisional, project and matrix organisational structure (Chand, 2016).

• Line and staff structure: Line structure comprises of line managers which acts as the supervisor. The hierarchy is vertically followed and monitor their subordinates working. Quick decision making takes place and easy to handle structure. Staff organisation lies above the line managers; they advise the line managers regarding certain queries.
• Functional structure: As the name suggests this structure is differentiated on the ground of functionalities performed in various departments. In functional structure the employee gets order from line as well as staff which may be considered as a drawback because chance of confusion and situation of dilemma may arise for the worker.
• Divisional structure: In this structure the organisation is divided in various departments and divisions. Thus functioning and accountability takes place within the individual department only.
• Project structure: This structure is time bound i.e. fixed for the particular time period till the fulfilment of certain project.
• Matrix structure: Matrix structure is hybrid in nature and involves all the above structure. It is mainly used by the developed and large organisations where various functions are inculcated in divergent department involving numerous employees.

Clearabee being a growing and developing at international level should select the matrix organisational structure which clarifies each line and instruction vertically and horizontally making the working much easier for managers and workers enabling in quick decision making and healthy competitive environment in the organisation.

In the traditional times managers use to reward their workers financially but in the modern approach the scope widens up. Finance is not the only thing that matters, non-financial activities worth more in today’s time. Other than incentives employees now demand for appreciation, post increment, better prospects any more techniques like this. The various modern management approaches that can be adopted are: Behavioural approach, Abraham Maslow, Douglas McGregor, Quantitative approach, Operations research, Operations management, Management information system, contingency approach and system approach. Concerning about Clearabee the most suitable management approach is system approach (Chand, 2016).

System is a complete operating structure comprising of various functions, divisions and sub-division. There are numerous levels included while constructing the system plan to achieve the objective in effective and efficient manner. The four measures considered while adopting a system are: input, processing, output and feedback.

• Input: Input is the initial and primary element. In manufacturing concern input is considered as the raw material and resources similarly when an organisation is taken under deliberation the raw material and resources utilised are- human, material, equipment, financial and informational. Human resource helps in the growth of organisation and retention of it is made, materials are raw material required to be processed, equipment are the facilities and infrastructure that assists in making work easier, finance is the blood of every business supporting in its inauguration and development and lastly information is the awareness of market situation, prevailing trends and competitors position.
• Processing: This involves the technical aspect of the organization. The processing of the material takes place to reform inputs into outputs.  Various options that implies in processing are- planning, organizing, leading, controlling and technology. The chain clearly depicts the process of management which helps in running all types and level of organisation. Planning involves the construction of map and selection of objective, organizing is plotting and constructing various steps which should be followed in order. Afterwards the direction is needed to the employees thus a leader need to be appointed to guide the staff. Controlling assists in finding discrepancies and providing immediate solution to it. Lastly technology which is utmost need thing in today’s scenario, organisation need to adopt the updated technology and build up relevant software to simplify the work.
• Output:Output attained after inculcating the above two processes i.e. rendering completed product and services. Gaining profit and losses resulting in the growth of organisation along with its employees. In modern management the focus on profit and customer satisfaction is in equal proportion.
• Feedback:Another imperative aspect after the completion of input into output is feedback. It concludes about the product and service, its position in the market, image among consumers and competitors (Citeman, 2009).

Strategic framework is used to manage the organisational procedure and plan for concluding the activities. There are varieties of framework and one best alternative or strategy is selected to implement it in the organisation. The different strategic management frameworks are: McKinsey’s strategic horizons, value disciplines, stakeholder model, balanced scorecard, Ansoff’s matrix, SWOT Analysis and Porter’s competitive strategy (Wright, 2016).

The Ansoff’s matrix is divided in the four portions: market penetration, market development, product development and diversification (Hussain, Khattak, Rizwan et.al. 2013).

• Market penetration: Market penetration is provision of existing product in the existing market. The organisations present it in distinct way applying schemes on it. As in the case of Clearabee the launching of new technique of waste collection and recycle at the existing location where it was already operating.
• Market development: It means selling the existing product in new market. It depicts about opening up the branch at other location and widening the scope of business. Example from offline clearing the advice could be collected through online means.
• Product development: This strategy quotes about launching new product in the same market. Example: Clearabee launched advance push dustbin as an innovative start in the prevalent business.
• Diversification: Here the new product gets launch in the new market to develop the demand and enhance the consumer’s interest. Example: Clearabee flings the first depot in the Northern Island which a new start at new location.

SWOT Analysis helps in identifying the one self. The organisation could judge itself using the SWOT Analysis of the organisation and even learn about the competitors through their strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. SWOT depicts about the strength and weakness of the organisation and take measures to convert weakness into opportunity and then to strength. Threats are those acts from which the organisation fears of, they are the things which would adversely affect the organisation (Rouse, 2017). SWOT Analysis of Clearabee is as follows:

• Strength: The first and foremost strength is the unique objective of the organisation. The rubbish removal trucks launched in 2012. It is step towards environment protection and fulfilling the social obligations as well. The attractive tagline ‘man and van’ is attached to grab consumer’s attention.
• Weakness: The only weakness is people are yet not aware and those who are aware do not bother much about such social cause. The promotional activities need to be strengthening and various schemes to be offered. Campaigns need to be inculcated to educate public regarding product.
• Opportunity: Household and restaurants need to be targeted as they are the place where more garbage gets collected and could be reused. Another industry which should be approached is paper manufacturing units and stationary stores so that unused or waste papers could be recycled and processed in order to come up with innovation involving environment with them at every step.
• Threat: Threat for this industry is emerging of the competitors. If any competitor arrives than chances of growth and popularity may reduce the impact of social cause and profit making may gain priority over the nature’s cause. Also establishment in Ireland may be a tough task as the market and product both are new which enhance the risk

Conclusion

From the case study and discussion carried upon it the conclusion drawn is that cause and motive of the business is good enough and unique in nature supporting both environment and the public. Alongside awareness gets created and options grow up. Initially the organisational structure is chosen so that smooth working takes place afterwards the best management approach is selected. The approach should be completely suitable in the context of Clearabee which could be applied perfectly in all sought of circumstances and situations. Thereby the strategic framework is analysed and most satisfactory strategies are selected i.e. Ansoff’s matrix and SWOT Analysis where Clearabee will be able to identify that in which market does it fall and what strategy need to be applied for converting opportunity into strength.
