I will use a cross-sectional design to observe the ethnic background trend in coaching. The cross-sectional design allows investigating the outcome and the exposures in the study participants simultaneously. This shall allow me to select participants based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria for this study. I will aim to interview 10 coaches as I believe this is enough to gain a broader understanding of my chosen subject. I will be interviewing coaches from sport and healthy academy which is currently the company I work for.
I have chosen this because it will give me a variety of different coaches, both male and female from lots of different ethnic backgrounds who are also at different stages of the coaching ladder. For example, most are from level one coaches, but there are also slightly more progressed coaches who are at level 2.
I will use the voice recorder to capture the still conversation with the interviewees. The voice recorder simplifies the review and analysis of the information for deeper meaning.
I will use a set of piloted open-ended questions to guide the interview. Guided questions will enable me not to lose the major objective of the study and ask the relevant questions to the research. I will use the laptop for direct transcription of the interview. This will be useful in computing results for easy analysis.
I will create an email to fire out to all coaches who I am going to interview. The coaches will be from level 1 and 2 of coaching.
Using email provides a platform to immediately identify coaches who will be available for the interview. I will ask the operation manager to forward these emails to the relevant coaches. These allow for further consultation with various departments to limit the conflicts or legal issues that can arise with regards to the study. The coaches will sign a consent form. This can be helpful to the conditions of publication of the findings where some coaches are not willing to discuss their personal details. I will administer one to one individual interview, lasting 15 to 30 minutes. I have to test run my questions on colleagues and this time range is enough for the information I intend to collect.
Ethical approval will need to be gained from Sport and Health Academy which adheres to the British Education Research Association of Ethical Guidelines. There shall be informed consent of the participants. This will seek to incorporate the rights of autonomous individuals through personal determination. I will introduce the participants to the purpose of the study as well as the introduction of the research. This research will respect the confidentiality and anonymity of the participants. Anonymity shall be protected if the participant does not want his identity to be linked with personal responses. In case the participant does not promise anonymity, he will be required to address the management of their private information. The study will respect the privacy of the participants. This is where the individuals shall have the freedom to determine the circumstance, time and extent of which private information shall be shared or withheld from the public. Intense analysis of the potential risks to the participants and the benefits shall be conducted first and there shall be careful approach in acquiring consent during the research procedure. Therefore voluntary informed consent shall be obtained from all participants. Two consent forms will be signed by the participants.
I will transcribe the interviews into raw data once they have been done and engage in the coding of the transcriptions. I will use a constant comparative method to analyze by assigning codes to reflect various properties and categories to the units of data by sorting the findings into groups. The number of categories shall be determined by the uniqueness of the category, frequency of the participants, and the audience for whom the research is conducted (Essexsummerschool.com, 2019). The codes shall have elements as a description of how to know when the theme occurs, description of what the theme concern and the label, listing of examples, negative and positive for the elimination of confusions, and description of any qualifications or exclusions to the identification of themes. Analysis of data shall be done by reviewing the research questions. This to ensure that sufficient data is collected to enable me to answer the questions I had previously posted about the study. I will create the summaries of interview questions. I will create the collections of quotations, organize the quotations into related topics to recognize the patterns in the data. Therefore I will describe the functions of the group to show how minority coaching relate in the football industry. I will then list the important facts about ethnic underrepresentation in football coaching I will then draw the visual representation of data using snapshots, videos, and tables.
