Performance management and reward management is one of the most important parts of the organisation which basically comprises various kinds of tools for the employees to provide them benefits (Aguinis, 2019). This helps with motivating the employees and helps them in enhancing the quality of performances. During the module I have learnt about the rewards and performance management where I gather information about every aspect of the reward management and the ways to manage the performance management in an organisation. I will provide the reflection about what I have learnt from the module and the factors that will be helpful for me to develop a great insight from the gathered knowledge. I will also be mentioning about the way I conducted his learning process along with the hindrances I have faced and the ways I maintained to overcome the same.
In this specific module I was introduced to the topic rewards and performance management for any organisation. During this course I was introduced to various kinds of subtopics related to performance management which helped all of us to gather information about the same and develop a basic as well as clear concept about the performance management.
During the course, we were taught by following a proper learning model. This learning model is a kind of method which comprises the physical and mental health that are always related with the learning for the acquisition of new skills and techniques about the newly introduced topic. This mechanism has been helpful for us to encourage the facilitated learning process. The kolb’s learning model has been helpful for me to understand the topic and apply the same for the real life examples to have a strong base about the topic that we have been taught in the module (Morris, 2020). This learning module involves the concrete learning through self reflection which helps in developing concepts and the lastly applying the same in the experiments.
The coursework and module introduces us with the performance and reward management which is one of the most important practices in any kind of organisation in order to motivate the employees for the better performances. In the module, we had 7 topics which covered several aspects of performance management. It is necessary to have a common goal and objective in the organisation which helps with the achievement of better performances. To learn the same I will need to learn about the value of adapting to manage employee performances and reward management. I will also be learning about the concepts of the different strategic alignment which will benefit me learning about the people management, influence of the human factors in the psychological engagement. I will also be gathering information about the skills and competency measurement of the organisation which are associated with the financial data of the organisation, the performances of individuals or teams as well as the organisation it. The module topic will be helpful for me to learn about the goal setting theory which is necessary to make the right kind of goals based on the performances and resources of the organisation. At the end of this module, I will be able to achieve the entire idea about the performance management by learning common approaches for the performance appraisal, behaviour assessment, and determination of the data and the evaluation of the same to determine the right kind of reward management for the employees (Armstrong, 2021). This learning about the performance management will be associated with the detailed study about the basic pay. It is important to gather knowledge about the nature and purpose of the basic pay, the differences of the base pay structure and evaluation of the same by learning the laws and regulations. The reward management engages the employee benefits where the employees get the enough scope to enjoy the financial and no-financial benefits and schemes to foster them as per their performances (Jaworski et al., 2018). This module will be helpful for them to understand the importance of the employee benefits and its influence on the workplace environment. Apart from the rewards management, it is also important for the organisation to ensure that the employees are having good physical and mental health which are necessary for the organisation to achieve the goals and objectives (Admassie, 2019). This will help me in learning the certain key points and issues that can be found in the employee base such as lack of motivation or low morale among the employees. Lastly the topic 11 will be covering the new aspects of the reward management such as reward management which can be helpful for the HR personnel to conduct the reward management and performance management with the help of AI or the other emerging technologies.
There were 7 learning materials provided by the university which contain all the details and learning objectives of the topic covering the reward management. Apart from that, various online journals and research papers will be used as the resources for the module, in order to gain the correct insight from the learning process.
As per the university guidelines about the module, it is to be expected that the learning for the module will be completed within 4 months. After the completion, it will be reviewed properly to find out the strengths and weaknesses about the module.
01.04.2022: I finished reading topic 2 from the entire seven modules of the reward and performance management, where I gathered information about the strategic alignment and psychological engagement. The module helped me to understand the thinking approach for managing the employee performances for the reward management. It also helped me to learn about the psychological engagement of the employees.
08.04.2022: The module topic 3 was about managing the results which can be conducted for determining the goals and objectives for the organisation. The modules required KPIs and KRAs for the performance assessment of all the employees working in an organization (Shahandashti et al., 2018). Through the help of goal setting theory it was easy to understand the strategies that set a goal. I faced a little difficulty in performing the KPIs and KRAs; however with the proper guidance of the professors I learnt the methods of the same. This module will be helpful for me to perform all kinds of employee assessments as HR personnel.
15.04.2022: During the module, I learnt about the performance appraisal and management which helped me with introducing the basic concept of the reward management. Related data, methods associated areas are being introduced for the betterment of the learning process. I learnt about the various key aspects of the same. This will be helpful for applying the same in real world organisation to conduct the rewards management process as HR personnel.
22.04.2022: This module has been helpful for me in understanding the various kinds of feedback and reviewing the performances of the employees. In this way I gathered the knowledge about how each of the employees is needed to be reviewed and provided with mentoring if needed. This will really help me in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the employees for the training and mentoring process.
29.04.2022: I learnt about the rules and regulations about the employee benefits and the type of the same in order to help the employees in getting their deserved benefits. Throughout the learning process I was able to perform a problem solving process to mitigate the challenges of the employee retention management. This week I also learned about the basic pay system for the employees which can be determined based on their skills and their techniques. In future this learning will help me manage the conflicts regarding the benefits and the basic pay system in the organisation.
07.05.2022: Topic 10 helped me to learn about the importance of employees in an organisation. I learnt how it is necessary to keep them informed about the goals and objectives or the changes in an organisation, train them for the skills they are lacking and many more. I can use this learning in real world organisations to motivate the workforce and enhance the work culture as well. On the other hand, topic 12 was about the new horizon of employee management of the reward system where I learned about the new scopes within the organisation. I learnt how important it is to understand the emotions, cultures and the skills of the employees to help them in establishing a better workforce.
After the completion of the entire module, I was able to perform the same learning about the theories and the concepts in the practical classes for the problem solves or the decision making process through the case lets. The case scenarios were based upon the performance and reward management of different kinds of organisational functions. Also we were asked to perform one assignment based on real world organisation to understand the performance and reward management through the help of real world experiments. While conducting the assignments and the assessment we were able to understand where we succeeded to learn and areas where we got a lot to learn about. We followed Kolb’s learning cycle for the learning process. In this process I was able to learn everything through a deep research process, reflect on the observation, develop abstract concepts about the entire scenario and lastly, apply the same in the actual experimental process.
The external resources from the university side and the online journal as well as research papers has made it easier to grasp the knowledge and learning for the topics as well as the entire module. However, my lack of communication skill created a bit of a problem during the first few sessions of the module learning, which were later on mitigated by the help of the professors and online lessons I took to enhance my communication skills.
After the completion of the module learning I realised how the process of the learning style helped me to work on the learning approaches as well such as thinking and problem solving skills, communication skills, leadership skills and many others. During the presentation I was able to analyse my strengths and the weakness of myself which helped me a lot for personal development. For HR personnel it is really necessary to have good communication skills and after working on my skills I was able to make a good interaction with the audiences through the communication. In future I would be working for more similar tasks to develop myself as HR personnel. I will also be using the porches of Kolb’s learning cycle to undertake more learning processes for the knowledge gathering about the other topics as well (Sudria et al., 2018). This learning cycle would also be helpful for the completion of the assignment related to the topic of the module.
After the completion of the entire module on the performance and rewards management we achieved the key concept and aspects for the betterment of the entire learning into the real life scopes. While doing the assignment we learnt how the company Sainsbury is successful in rewarding the human resources of the company as well as the process of fostering the human resources for the better performances. The help of online tools to measure the performances of the Sainsbury employees or the application of motivation theory of Maslow and Herzberg, has been helpful for the analysis in order to understand the needs of the employees and the factors that are influencing the employee performances and the employee satisfaction. The reward management and performance management structure has been helpful for us to have a clear idea about the entire process of the management. Even though the company has better structure for the reward management, I have observed how the companies still have to take care of the basic pay and reward benefits. So that the employees can be satisfied along with that they will be motivated enough with proper efficiency. We also learnt human resources play a vital role in reward management. We have observed during the assignment module that the employee’s of Sainsbury are managed by the human resources department who are also responsible to maintain all the rules and regulations in the workplaces regarding the employees.
Conclusion
While pursuing the course I was able to learn about the performance management and reward techniques which can be helpful for me to become successful Hr personnel. However during the learning process I discovered Kolb’s learning which helped me for the deep knowledge gathering skills. Apart from that through self reflection about approaches I was able to learn about the weaknesses and strengths which I also developed through time. Learning has been a whole new experience for me who enhances my critical thinking skills and problem solving process as well. In the future I will be able to perform the same for the real world organisations for the better outcomes and have a better workforce who will be aiming for the goals while working collaboratively.
