01 Although we have done some research on our own, but we want to hear about Claybrook Zoo from your point of view? Slogan or catch phrase? Mission of the zoo?
We do not have any slogans so far. The mission of our zoo is to accommodate and preserve all the animal of the universe. We want every individual to see all kind of animal and know them physically. We believe practically seeing the animal is best for our education and research.
02 What are your main aims and expectations from this electronic system?
Why I need this website is because there has been a drastic decline in the number of visitor visiting the zoo. Before we used to have over 1.6 million visitors but now we get around 0.9 million visitors only.
I think it is mainly due to our lack of interactive information system and old school paper based database management. The visitors have to queue for a long time to buy a ticket and planning a visit beforehand is quite difficult practically.
03 Do you have any idea of how you want your website to look like? Any particular existing design that has captured your attention?
I do not have much idea about the design and features as I do not dwell with technologies. But we would like to see a better comparable system and the logos and color theme must be the same.
04 What are the services and features you would want to highlight the most in the system?
The features that must be included are firstly the animal information and updating. As animals come and go, I wasn’t to updating of the animal information to be as efficient as possible.
We also organize a lot of events and their promotion on our site must be updated frequently. Next, we must have an online booking and payment service so that the visitor don’t have to queue for along time. I would also prefer if you could specify the benefit of planning school/ college visit in our zoo as they are given a certain percentage of discount.
The main priority however must be given to our sponsorship scheme because 20%-30% of our revenue comes from our sponsor.
04 How do you manage the budget and accounting of the zoo till date?
All of our data storage is paper based and recorded and updated manually which is very inconvenient. The budget and accounting calculation is also done manually which sometimes lead to an error in accounting.
06 How do you manage you staff database? Would you like them to have a separate portal?
Most of our staff are temporary and the number is varied according to the season. During off season, we have 20-30 staffs whereas 200-300 staffs are employed during peak season. As the staff is dynamic, I don’t think it is a good idea fo them to have separate portals on the website.
07 How important is it to include animal watch list along with normal specifications of animals? (endangered / unhealthy animals)
08 Do you want the kiosk solution just for navigation or to provide information about various animals?
I want the kiosk system to include information about the animal available along with quizzes, maps and guides, complex searches etc.
09 How effective do you want the search engine of the site to be?
I want complex search services with proper filters or tags such that the website visitor can easily find what the are looking for.
10 Would you incorporate animal live cams in your website?
It is no problem if it is a short clip of the featured animal but live cameras is not required.
11 For navigation, do you only want the 2D map or a virtual tour as well?
You can decide on this because I am fine with adding 2D maps and guides for navigation. A virtual tour is not required but it will be appreciated if you incorporate it.
12 Would you like the disabled access area to be highlighted?
As our zoo is a differently-able friendly environment, highlighting those areas in the map would be appreciated.
13 Would you like to add live chat feature?
No, a live chat feature is not required.
14 What is the duration for online ticket booking to be cancelled?
We do not have cancellation duration but it may vary if it is peak season. During off season, the visitors can come at any time and may also be able to experience discounts. However, during peak season, it will be hard to say.
15 What about the dining and souvenirs experience?
We do offer dining and souvenir experience but I don’t want it to be presented on the website
16 Can you further explain about your events?
We occasionally hold events such as musical concerts, social services, awareness program etc.
17 Do you want the data of daily activities of the zoo to be entered in the website too?
Yes, I would prefer if our daily activities are presented in the website. Presenting it as a calendar would be better.
18 How often do you think will the system require major updates?
Rather than major updates, the animal information will be more frequently updated as the animals are brought or transferred to other places. Other updates would be regarding the events which do not have a proper time frame. So, updating the data needs to be flexible.
19 Do you also provide volunteer services? If yes, what are the criteria for it?
Yes, we do offer volunteering services. There are no criteria except for age limit. The applicant must be 18 years and above. They must receive 1-2 months training prior to field experience as there might be possibility of animal attack.
20 Would you like to give permission to the sponsor to manage their advertisement?
For sponsorship advertisement, we usually advertise it at the animal catalogue excluding the billboard and signage. For example: XXXXX animal was sponsored by XXXXXX.
On the website, we do not want to give them full right but it is okay if they are to control a certain portion of their advertisement.
21 Any rules regarding the animals and the zoo that are not to be violated?
Yes, there are but among them the priority is given to regulation regarding extinct or endangered animals.
Taking pictures of those endangered animal or downloading the picture from is also strictly prohibited.

24 At what time frame would you like us to develop the software?
I want the prototype to be developed by May 3rd, 2019. The deployment will be 3 months later i.e. in August I presume.

No, I don’t think so. Please remember our opening time.
10 am to 8 pm on weekends and 12 pm to 6 pm on weekdays.
