Scope of the Project
Background: The organization that is taken in this report is an IT Infrastructure company named as John Banks Information Technology Infrastructure Company that deals with development of project from past 20 years. The organization mainly undertakes development projects related to Information Technology that costs $250 million. John Banks is working with approximately 60 employees who looks after the project delivery from planning of projects to completion of projects and finally handing over the projects to the clients. The company is working with Project Management Information System for managing the projects undertaken. But the information system is unable to do the work efficiently and effectively (Stark 2015). There is a need to implement a new Project Management Information System (PMIS) that can manage the information system of John Banks effectively.
Scope: The scope of this report is to find an appropriate PMIS methodology for John Banks that will help to complete the project effectively and efficiently. The current system that is implemented in the organization is not capable of doing its work efficiently. So, new methodologies are recommended for this company to make its working process more efficient.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of this report is to recommend some methodologies for John Banks Information Technology Infrastructure Company so that they can manage all their projects efficiently and effectively.
The objective of this report is to study four methodologies involved in PMIS to make its working process better. To recommend one methodology from all the suggested methodologies for the company.
Alternative Planning Methodologies and Techniques
Methodology 1: Waterfall Methodology
Description:
The waterfall methodology of PMIS is basically a sequential process in which progress is done according to the work that is done in previous steps (Kerzner 2018). The methodology of waterfall was firstly introduced in the year 1950.
Pros and Cons:
The advantage of waterfall methodology is that this methodology stresses out rigorous documentation. This includes requirements or the design documents included with the source code. By this method, the knowledge of project management can be spread to all the new members of the group if someone comes new to the project.
The waterfall methodology also provides some downside in the methodology of project management. In this project management methodology, the team members cannot go back to previous step for making changes if necessary. There is very little space for waterfall methodology for evolving the needs or changing the needs (Hornstein 2015). If the client demands for change, the project will have to start from beginning which will cost more. The quality control or the testing only takes place in down line which makes the project manager difficult to detect bugs and find out the impact of project management.
Applications:
The projects that has fixed scope as well as the requirements of the projects are stable and fixed, waterfall methodology is suggested only for those projects. Unstable project cannot implement waterfall methodology in them. After starting the project in waterfall model, there is no need of client presence for conducting the project.
Methodology 2: Agile Methodology
Description:
The methodology of agile project management gives response to all the demands that are changing rapidly in the software development method (Binder 2016). Agile methodology addresses all the changing needs that waterfall methodology cannot address.
Pros and Cons:
Agile methodology involvement in projects allows faster development that mainly reduces the resource wastage. This methodology increases flexibility as well as adapt all the changes that are needed in a project to change easily and puts more efforts on the requirement changes in a project (Ptak and Schragenheim 2016). Agile methodology allows quick detection of the issues as well as the potential bugs optimizing development process. Agile allows increased collaboration and increased feedback that puts the customer needs to forefront.
Agile methodologies has many disadvantages along with all its positivity. The limitations of agile methodology is that agile methodology includes documentation, which needs a trend to be sidetracked. This documentation makes hard for the new members of the team to match up the speed. With agile methodology, progress of processes in more difficult because there are different cycles in this methodology (Kostalova, Tetrevova and Svedik 2015).
Applications:
This methodology is used in development of 50MWe power station with coal gasification, power generation, as well as syngas treatment. This project management methodology helps to develop procurement model and helps in maintenance of the projects.
Methodology 3: Scrum Project Methodology
Description:
The scrum technology is similar to that of agile framework. Agile framework deals with set of methods and set of principles. But, scrum framework helps to implement the agile methodology (Shojaie et al. 2016). The team of scrum technology mainly works with iterative cycles commonly known as sprints. The owner of the project, the person who is in charge of the project mainly creates the product outlines and makes the vision statement, project backlog and product roadmap. The owner of the project also plans with the development team about what is going to be delivered at each sprint end.

Applications:
The scrum methodology can be used for adjusting the release principles working with the hardware of this methodology. This method believes in delivering virtual simulations instead of delivering functional as well as physical product for a customer at end of each sprint. The scrum methodology provides reasonable solution used in many hardware of the methodology.
Methodology 4: Kanban Methodology
Description:
The Kanban methodology in project management was firstly introduced by the Toyota engineer in the year 1953. This method mainly focuses on visualizing workflow for balancing the demand as well spot bottlenecks (Nicholas and Steyn 2017). In this methodology, the work is divided in many stages or in many steps. All the member in a team does their own work and finally passes that task to next stage to complete it.
Pros and Cons:
The advantages of Kanban methodology is that this methodology needs management as well as self-motivation for completing the project. This methodology helps the project manager to increase the efficiency, as well as saving the resources. The project managers cannot overload and needs to complete the project on time and within budget.
The disadvantage pf Kanban methodology is that there is no sprints in Kanban methodology (Harrison & Lock 2017). There is no specific milestones in this methodology and roles are also not assigned. The team members can freely focus on their task.
Applications:
Kanban methodology is a methodology that divides the projects evenly which sometimes gets overlapped in team. In Kanban methodology if a team member has some particular skill in demand that can help to complete a project.

All the four methodologies that are suggested for John Banks Information Technology Infrastructure Company is very helpful to make its working process more efficient and effective (Laudon and Laudon 2016). As the company is large and deals with development projects of $250 million, so all the four methodologies can be used for implementing a new Project Management Information System in the company. All the four methodologies suggested divides a particular project into several parts and completes each parts one by one for accomplishing the objective of the project.
The best methodology that can be suggested for new PMIS system of John Banks is the Agile Methodology. The tools and the techniques that are used in PMIS system helps to deliver the information in project management. The PMIS system helps to collect, distribute as well as combine the information manually and electronically. With the help of Agile Methodology, the project manager can execute as well as close the project successfully with the management goals. The agile project management methodology helps to make strategic planning, along with management control activities, also helps to control operation information in a project.
Scope of the Project
The scope of this report is to recommend all the hardware that are needed for John Banks. The general as well as specialized PMIS software that are needed for the organization are discussed in this report along with staffing requirements, training plan and cost estimate related to the organization.

Hardware needed for the Company
The hardware requirement for implementing a new PMIS system in John Banks includes some high configuration computer system which should have at least 4 GB ram with 1 TB hard disk. All the computer systems should be connected to an internal network and should have access to internet. Wires are needed to make connections.
General PMIS software suitable for the Company
The general PMIS software that are to be installed in all the systems of John Banks Information Technology Infrastructure Company are Microsoft SharePoint, an operating system, SharePoint server 2013, SQL server (Nicholas and Steyn 2017). There should be an operating system in all the computer system that supports the software needed to run PMIS software in the system. All the systems should be connected with each other and should have internet access. There should also be Microsoft Project Server, Huddle, Rally, OnTime Scrum installed in the system.
Specialized PMIS Software
The Microsoft SharePoint is a platform where teams can organize all the works and moves the project forward. This SharePoint can helps to match as well as expose the processes of project management (Braglia and Frosolini 2014). All the processes of project management is collaborated under this Project management SharePoint. The company should also have a cloud system in which all the data of the company should be stored with security. The provider of cloud computing should ensure that the data are protected under the Data Law of Protection.
Staffing requirements, training plan for company staff
The staffs of the John Banks Information Technology Infrastructure Company should be provided with a computer system each and there should be security system in the company to provide any kind of data breach in the system (Fuller 2017). The employees should be provided with all the necessary software that are needed to carry out the PMIS system in the organization.
The employees should also be provided with proper training so that they are capable of handling the different software that are involved in the system (Laudon and Laudon 2015). All the processes involved in the organization should be known to the employees and through proper training only, the new employees can get to know about the existing methodology or the processes that are running in the company. Employees should also get training about how to keep their data safe in the cloud by securing them with a password.
