Business management consists of interlocking business functions for creating corporate policy and organizing, planning and controlling the organizational resources for achieving organizational goals (Kasemsap, 2013). This study will pursue a new business startup, which will recycle and repair the electronic wastes of Australia and sell them in second hand shops. The study will discuss size, industry, operating area, vision and strategy of the organization. The organizational structure of the organization will also be discussed in this study. Furthermore, the study will discuss the external and internal environmental forces of the organization, which can have huge impact on its business operation. Some risks associated with the new business startup will also be discussed in this study. Apart from that, the study will also discuss the business practices and functions to be adopted in the new organization for enhancing organizational performance.
Business size of an organization is determined based on its numbers of personnel, financial background and managerial ability (Piperopoulos & Dimov, 2015). The new e-waste recycling company will start its business with limited financial resources. Furthermore, the organization will also require less numbers of employees initially for just starting the business. Apart from that, being a start-up company, the market size of the organization will also be limited. Hence, the new organization will operate a small sized business organization. The e-waste recycling company will operate in recycling industry. There is a growing trend of recycling business in Australia. Moreover, the Australian solid waste management market has earned $6.80 billion revenue in 2013 (Bidart-Novaes et al., 2014). The new organization can also grow in this industry with huge governmental support of Australia towards recycling and e-waste management.
The startup e-waste recycling organization will initially operate in Australian market. However, later on, the organization can expand in international markets depending on the business growth. The vision of the new e-waste recycling company will be “To be the most admired and unique solution provider in the ground of environmental protection”. The strategy of the organization will be to lead the recycling industry by providing best services in reusing and recycling the e-wastes of Australia. The strategy of the organization will also be to recover the raw and reusable materials of the e-wastes. Furthermore, the organization will provide best quality recycled electronic equipment to the customers in affordable prices.
Organizational structure defines the interaction between the employers and employees within an organization (Kozubíková et al., 2015). Moreover, it defines the ways in which the activities like task allocation, supervision and coordination is directed towards achieving organizational goals. Organizational structure for startups should be simplistic for flexible interaction among the organizational members. It leads to better business understanding of the new business ideas among all the organizational members (Pina et al., 2013). Hence, the new e-waste recycling company will choose flat organizational structure for simplistic organizational interaction among the organizational members.
In flat organizational structure, the organization will have less or no middle level managers between the employees and higher level management. Moreover, the employees will be able interact with the high level managers directly share their issues in their job roles. Hence, the employees can get immediate solution to their issues and concentrate on their job role for better performance. On the other hand, the employees will also get direct support and kind supervision from the upper level managers. It will help the employees in completing any complex job role towards enhancing organizational performance. Such organizational structure will also allow the employees in organizational decision making process. Hence, such structure can foster innovative e-waste recycling business ideas from various employees, which can lead to competitive advantage for the organization.
External environment analysis is an effective strategic tool, which identifies the external market forces of an organization (Cassar, 2014). Such external market forces can have huge impact on the success level of an organization. PESTLE analysis model is the best method of analyzing external environment of an organization. In case of new e-waste recycling organization, it can get full support from the government towards reusing and recycling the solid e-wastes of the country. However, changing government policies can have negative impact on the business operation of the organization. The overall national economy of Australia has been grown significantly leading to developed economic condition (Kesting & Günzel-Jensen, 2015). Such developed economic condition of Australia can enhance the return on investment of the new startup. The community people of Australia have huge support for recycling their e-wastes (Henrekson & Sanandaji, 2014). Hence, the organization can get support from the customers in selling their recycled and second hand electronic equipments. The organization can get tax exemption from the government for managing the e-waste of the country. On the other hand, the new organization will adhere with all environment acts of the organization through environmental protection.
Internal environment analysis considers the factors within an organization, which have huge impact on organizational success (Picken, 2017). The internal environment of an organization can be analyzed through SWOT analysis model. The new e-waste recycling company will use advanced and best technology for recycling the e-waste of the country into effective reusable electronic equipments. Moreover, the organization will have separate recycling centre for effective recycling of the e-wastes. The organization will hire best and talented employees for successful recycling of the e-wastes. Lack of skilled and experienced employees in recycling field can reduce the effectiveness of the recycling process. Limited suppliers of the e-wastes can hamper the business opportunity of the new startup. On the other hand, the new concept of e-waste and environmental protection can provide the organization an opportunity of international expansion for global e-waste management. However, the organization can face tough competitive pressure in the recycling industry.
The e-waste recycling company can confront several risks in its business operation. The new e-waste recycling startup can face the risk of increased price of the commodities. Moreover, the price of the recyclable e-wastes plays a significant role in deciding upon the success level of a recycling organization (Regmi et al., 2015). Increased price of the recyclable e-wastes can leads to risk of increased operational cost for new recycling organization (Luo et al., 2017). On the other hand, with the growth in recycling industry, several recycling organizations have established their business in Australia. Therefore, the new startup can have the risk of tough competition in the recycling industry. E-waste recycling business can also be associated with injuries and harm for the employees due to the contamination and hazards residing within the e-wastes recyclables (Wibowo & Deng, 2015).
Business practices define the methods, processes, procedures and rules adopted by an organization towards achieving organizational success (Euchner & Ganguly, 2014). The new e-waste recycling company will use advanced technology for producing high quality recycled electronic equipments from the recyclable e-wastes. Such high quality recycled electronic equipments will provide unique value to the customers, which will lead to competitive gain for the organization.
The organization will always be engaged in market research for gaining new business opportunities and customer demands for producing new types of e-wastes recycled equipments. On the other hand, the business practice of the new startup will also include proper costing and pricing strategy. Moreover, the organization will source unique suppliers for getting supply for proper recyclable e-wastes at best price. It will facilitate the organization in reducing their operational cost as well as producing best recycled electronic equipments. In this way, the organization will gain profit from reduced business cost and uniqueness of the recycled products. It will also use affordable pricing for the second hand and recycled electronic equipments for the affordability of the customers. It will actually enhance the sales volume of the organization in the recycling industry.
Business functions are defined as the operation or process, which is performed routinely as the part of mission in an organization (Gonzalez, 2017). While considering the product development function, the research and development department of new e-waste recycling company will adopt innovative process of producing unique quality recycled electronic equipments. On the other hand, the organization will have large inventory for storing the recyclable e-wastes to be recycled. Such large size of inventory can facilitate in better material management of the organization. The startup company will promote the awareness of the environmental advantage of recycled products through social media channels. Furthermore, the organization will also promote the unique value of the recycled e-waste through advertising campaign and digital marketing media. It will increase the demand of recycled electronic equipments among the customers, which will lead to increased sales of such products. The human resource management function of the organization will responsible for hiring highly qualified and talented employees for proper and effective recycling of the e-wastes. Such properly and effectively recycled electronic equipments will serve to actual needs of the customers.
Conclusion
While concluding the study, it can be said that the new e-waste recycling company will recycle the electronic wastes of Australia into new electronic equipments. The organization will be aimed at being the leading recycling organization through protecting the environment by solid e-waste management. The new start-up company will use flat organizational structure for flexible interaction among the organizational members. The e-waste recycling company will get huge support from Australian government, as the company will be associated with managing the wastes of the country. The business practice of the organization will adopt advanced technology for manufacturing best quality recycled electronic equipments for customer satisfaction.
