The website www.newsweek.com is a staple of the American media for 80 years. This website provides with American weekly news to the readers. This website brings higher quality of journalism to the readers around the world. The website provides news about the international issues, business, politics, health, technology as well as culture (Wiener, Ekholm & Haller, 2015). The page size is 2.8 MB and the loading time is 12.91 seconds. The global rank of the website is 4521 while its ranks 1129 in the United States. About 63 percent of the visitors are from United States. The site is basically based on content related to current issues and breaking news. Currently, the website reaches over 45,111 people monthly, while 44 percent such as 19,804 people are from the United States (Newsweek.com, 2016). Firstly, the website focuses on analysis, then it provides with latest headlines and then the section, which are provided in the magazine. Finally, it provides news about the issues in the current week (Alexa.com, 2017). Then, there is a section “Most read”, which focuses on the news, which do the visitors mostly read or which are most popular news of the web pages.
The following are the features of the website- www.newsweek.com:
The following are the positive aspects of the website:
The following are the negative aspects of the website:
Two participants use to review the website. One the participant is of age 23, Male and he is a student. As per his point of view, the overall score of the website should be 7.5 while my opinion is 8.1. As per him, some of the pages are not using defined headings and images on some of the pages are not clear. The other participant is of age 25, male and he is an engineer. Aas per his point of view, there are many errors and warnings in the web pages. None of the pages have W3C complaint due to errors in the code. Therefore, he is not able to browse the website properly.
After identifying the limitations in the website, there is a requirement to develop the web page. The following are the suggested recommendations on the nominated website:
Link destination: The links on the pages should have destination for benefit of the screen readers as well as search engine spiders. Therefore, there is a requirement to add anchor tesxt, which describe the destination of links.
Addition of attributes: There is a requirement of both widths as well as height attributes to the image tags. Both should be specified same as the source image. In order to resize any images, there is requirement of CSS.
Resolve of validation errors: The validation errors are required to resolve as the errors are preventing the website from being fully W3C complaint.
Semantically correct headings: Some of the pages are not containing proper headings, therefore it is required to define the headings semantically correct way. Always start with H1 tag that is used to brief the content of page. Other tags such as H2, H3, H4 etc used to summarize the sections in the content.
Based on the web metrics, the website is reviewed. The web metrics play an important role in reviewing if the website performs as per the expectations of users as well as the business, which is running the website. The loading speed of the site is slow such as it loads in 12.91 seconds (Alexa.com, 2017). 81 percent of the images of the website are defined properly. About 19 percent of the images are not having defined sizes using width as well as height attribute within the HTML (Kumar & Jenamani, 2017). Those attributes are optional; however, it is required to arrange the page quickly. The domain name of the website- newsweek.com was registered in the year 1994. As the name of the domain was registered a long time ago, therefore the web pages are appearing higher within the search engine rankings as compared to younger websites. Recently, the website saw an increase into its popularity (Mohorovicic, 2013). The website is accounting for 97.8 percent of internet traffic to the newsweek.com. The web page is securely linked with the Facebook page Newsweek. It is also linked with the Twitter account such as Twitter account Newsweek (@Newsweek).
This particular website is handling the missing pages properly by sending of 404HTTP status code. As the loading time of the webpage is 12 seconds, therefore the website is served of GZIP encoding (Peterson, 2014). It helps in reducing the loading time of the page. The website is following best practice to use permanent (HTTP 301) redirect from https://newsweek.com to https://www.newsweek.com. All of this particular websites are appearing to optimize for view on the mobile phone as well as tablet (Estes, 2016). Each of the pages in the website is use of Google Tag Manager that permits to complete analysis of the visitor behavior. After the analysis, it is determined that all the pages are using the pages titles properly. The titles are appeared into the search results at the top of the browser window.

Responsive web design (RWD) is the solution to multi-screen problems. Google is preferred the responsive web design as the content of the website contains only one URL as wel as same HTML (Patel et al., 2015). Therefore, it is easier to share and interact with the users. The website designer creates RWD by making sure that the navigation elements of the website, layout of screen, images and other UI elements are re-adjusted on various types of devices (Kim, 2013). Therefore, there is no need to create as well as maintain mobile site version as well as desktop site version for the website. The following are the principles of RWD:
Flow: As the size of the screen is smaller, therefore, the web content starts to take up vertical space and it is pushed down.
Relative units: The canvas is a mobile device with display of 480×640 to 700×960 pixels. As the density of pixel varies based on the device, therefore flexible density is required. The minimum height is 1 pixel, padding left is 15 pixel and padding right is 15 pixels. The relative unit is 50 percent; it means it is half of the screen.
Breakpoints: It is a mobile device, therefore the website contains of only 1 column. The CSS properties can change from one breakpoint to another (Lee et al, 2015).
Max and min value: It is a width of 100 percent and max width of 1000 pixels. It means that the content will fill the entire screen. It is not required to go over 1000 pixels.
Nested objects: Many elements are dependent on each other is become difficult to control (Six & Macefield, 2016). That is the reason wrapping elements are kept understandable as well as clean. Static units such as pixels can help and it will useful for the content.
Mobile or desktop first: The project is based on which device it will start. It helps to take decisions to start on which device.
Webfonts: The website has web fonts (Majid et al., 2015).
In order to review the website, Chrome Device Simulator is used that can emulate the website across its various screen sizes as well as resolutions. It also responsively designed by inspecting the CSS media queries. The simulator tool evaluates the load performance of the site without affecting the traffic to another tab.
Advantages of simulation tool used to review of RWD WebPages:
The simulation tool is super flexible such as the content of the website moves freely across all the screen resolutions as well as devices. The images on the website are fluid. The content of the website is accessible through any device of choice of user at anywhere and anytime (Alexa.com, 2017). Use of this tool is cost effective while compared to other simulation tool. The Google recommends it. Google states that this responsive web design is recommended the mobile configuration. This site contains of only one URL and consists of same HTML. Therefore, using this tool it is easier to test the website (Newsweek.com, 2016). In the RWD, the web designers are using of CSS code to help swap out from the current view and then change it as per the screen dimensions of viewers.
Disadvantages of simulation tool used to review of RWD WebPages:
Due to unnecessary HTML, the website takes of higher loading time. There is an implementation problem into the tool and due to this reason; it takes longer time to test as compared to expected (Baturay & Birtane, 2013). There are some unfamiliar problems into the website and due to this it is not fixed. As this tool is a new concept, therefore the users are not able to get right solutions for some unknown problems.
Google analytics: It is useful for usability testing which provides set of website data tracking as well as analysis tools. The researchers understand the usage of the website based on some factors such as behavior as well as trends. The data consists of user sessions, views of the page, visits and other (Mehta & Jha, 2014). After the testing, the tools provides with statistics as well as reports.
ProtoFluid 4: This particular tool can streamline the expansion of the responsive web design, adaptive CSS as well as layouts of fluid. The availability of this tool is free. With use of this tool, the user can quickly effect the changes as well as show the benefits (Hussain & Mkpojiogu, 2015). It can shape active as well as defined viewports that facilitates testing of the work.
Conclusion
It is concluded that the newsweek website provides news about the international issues, business, politics, health, technology as well as culture. It uses of proper web addresses throughout. Most of the visitors as well as search engines are going for the website as it is updated regularly. This website has both positive as well as negative aspects. The mobile device can access this web page properly. All the pages are showed to make use of semantic HTML that is one of the good aspects of Newsweek website. Mostly male people are using this website and it is accessed in the workplace. Apart from the positive aspect, there are negative aspects such as the loading speed is slow and the internal links of the website are poor as there are 198 links not describing their destination. There is no W3C complaint in the pages due to errors in the code. The name of the domain was registered a long time ago. The web pages are appearing higher within the search engine rankings as compared to younger websites. In order to review the website, Chrome Device Simulator is used of emulating the website crosswise its various screen sizes, resolutions and inspecting the CSS media queries.
