Facilities management refers to discipline that aim for service delivery in efficient and effective manner at the facilities. Therefore, facilities manager is the overall the manager in charge of service delivery and operation of facilities (Zipkin 2000, pp. 32). The following report explores the roles and responsibility of operation management during Share & Care event.
Facilities manager organizes or manage all the services, facilities maintenance, responsible for security, supervises the event, and ensuring good health and safety of staff and customers. Firstly, facilities manager is responsible for organization of all services or manages all services during Share & Care event. It is the responsibility of facilities manger to direct, plans and coordinates all the services at the facilities where the event takes place. Secondly, facilities manager ensure that the condition of the facilities where the Share & Care event takes place is in good condition for proper working of staffs and customers who expect good, clean and safe facility. Thirdly, according to Winter (2000, Pp. 981-996), facilities manger protects all the employees or staffs and their customer through proper maintenance of security system. Fourthly, it is the responsibility of facilities manager to supervise the staffs working and activities of staffs to ensure smooth Share & Care event. Finally, facilities manager ensures good health and safety of staffs working in the facility and customers in the Share & Care. To ensure good health for staffs and customers, the facility manager does continuous health assessment of the facility and maintenance of hygiene.
The operational aspect of facilities manager of the building in hospitality industry includes maintenance of building, purchases of equipments, managing the space in the premises and capacity, refurbishment, emergency and security of the building.
The core operational responsibility of the facilities manager is maintenance of the building or the premises (Cattani et al 2011, Pp. 1). To maintain the building in the right condition facilities manger coordinates repairs, upgrade of the building installations and catering units. Firstly, the repairs that is required such as painting, cleaning and broken parts of the dinning equipments within the hotel or restaurant. Secondly, the facilities manger upgrades the buildings spaces such as conference; dining and catering section to ensure it meet the current specifications. Finally, facility manger makes purchases for all catering equipments required for kitchen and other services (Malhotra & Grover 2005, pp. 365-396).
According to Montgomery (2012, pp.21), broken equipments within the premise are purchased by the direction of facilities manager. Hospitality industry has technical equipments that require regular upgrade and maintenance. This implies that worn out equipments should be replaced more so catering equipments that need good observance of hygiene. The facilities manger therefore, advertises and award tenders for supply of catering equipments that are used for service within the building. In addition, as part of operational aspect of the hospitality building, it is necessary for suppliers to continuously supply catering equipment under request and supervision of facilities manager.
Facilities manger allocates space and determines capacity of hospitality facility to ensure proper operation of the premises. In addition, working time regulation 1998 shows breaks, shifts, and working hours for those employees working within hospitality industry in UK. Finally, The Safety Signs and Signals Regulation Act 1996 require proper display of fire exit signs.
Employers Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969 requires that there must be adequate insurance for employees by employers. The event of accidents at work place, insurance takes care of the employees involves. Therefore, most public liability insurance firms provide this insurance deals to those employees working in the hospitality industry as the overall package.
Finally, Licensing Act 1964 requires that any hotel complies with the licensing requirements before organizing events such as Share & Care event. The facilities manager develops quality check system that accepts customer suggestions, complains and monitoring of guests behaviours such as videos recording. Effective building management requires repairs of structures through expansion, paintings and upgrades of electrical installations. Secondly, managing the building also requires purchases of new equipments, catering appliances and furniture. Thirdly, control of resources and the proper resource use is important in effective management of facilities (Tyson & Garsord 2015, Pp. 408).
Meeting customer expectation requires evaluation of quality of services offered to customers and the effectiveness of facilities operations. In order to evaluate the quality of services offered in the facility, there is need to establish customer satisfaction rating system or customer feedback system, proper use of technologies, operation cost evaluation and employees training.
Customer feedback system is important as a way to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of facilities operation. Customers that have been served need to be allowed to provide feedbacks on their satisfaction. This can be done through establishment of rating systems and most so use of social media and online business rating systems. The number of customers that provide their level of satisfaction will help tell the effectiveness of the facilities operation and quality of services. Since services are rendered to customers it is important for customers to give their level of satisfaction also called customer rating systems (Tyson & Garsord 2015, Pp.408).

The amount of money spent in operation and maintenance of services within the facilities is good evaluation criteria for quality operations. It is widely believed that trained employees offers good and quality services. Training of the employees therefore, can be used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the facility operations. Monitoring of the operation cost normally indicates losses or profit made by organization and is good quality monitor or evaluation criteria (Aquino 2007, Pp. 67).
Quality and effectiveness of the facilities operations shows that good quality and effectiveness of services was realized. Effectiveness of the operations is realized through control system, good building management, customer feedback and good employee training. Firstly, the facility management has good control systems that control use of resources, information communication flow, documentation, and utilization of resources. Densmore et al 2005, p.35), the facilities manger has good managements and therefore good quality of services. Secondly, the good building management offers effective maintenance of structures, equipments, health and safety measures that is required for delivery of quality and effectiveness operations. Thirdly, with the establishment of customer feedback system the business has quality check mechanisms that show effectiveness of facilities operations. Finally, since the employees are well trained their service delivery is heightened and quality of services high.

In conclusion, good facilities management and operations is important for the hospitality industry in UK since it ensures maintenance of services delivery, regulations and good quality of services. Before, during and after Share & Care event there is need for observance of health, safety and environmental regulations through proper building managements and control systems. Current technologies aid in control, maintenance of quality and effectiveness of facilities operations. Finally, success of organization or event is dependent of good facilities management and operations.
