As a part of the completion of the MSc computer science course, we have been tasked by the University for the completion of the project based on sensing city. Upon completing the entire project, the deliverables would be able to convince the client successfully. The business owner could also implement sensors in order to reduce the cost. A small video clip would be attached to the deliverables of the project that would be able to showcase the action performed by the sensors. Our project would also be advertised in different social media platforms.
There should be an adoption of new ways in order to overcome the problems based on overpopulation of cities. This project would be able to provide certain knowledge based on the utilization of sensors. Some example of sensors such as door sensors would be able to help different people to complete their task in a quicker manner. Other sensors such parking space detectable sensors would be helpful for directing drivers to directly reach to the empty parking space instead of driving around and finding on their own.
This project comprises of a team of people who would work together in order to complete the showcase and thus be able to write a report. This report would focus on the working methods of sensing city. This form of improved method would be able to increase the profits of businesses and reduce several vital impacts on the environment. The primary aim of the project would be to make the working of cities and houses in an automatic manner according to previously set instructions with the help of taking physical data from sensors.
I am currently working as a team manager and I am solely accountable for the entire management of the project. It is a bit challenging to manage the team in this level. We perform a high level of communication based on a WhatsApp group along with person to person chat. Group meetings are also conducted for understanding of challenges that are faced during the completing of tasks.
During the first completion of RACI matrix and division of tasks, it was a challenge to work for first time. Hence it would took some time to get comfortable with the new group members in order to successfully the complete the RACI matrix.
I have five kinds of responsibilities for the completion of the project. The first responsibility is to fully complete the brief of the project in order to gain feedback from the client before starting of the project.
The second responsibility is to highlight the progress of the project. This would include the track the progress of the tasks. Based on this the schedule of the other tasks would be determined.
The third responsibility is to help my team with virtual showcase. This responsibility was based on a deliverable of the project. Completion of the task would require the working on a virtual platform.
The fourth responsibility is to complete the video that would require virtual showcase.
The fifth responsibility is based on the lesson that I have learnt. The main aim of the project is to depict the result based on self-learning from the project. I learned the qualities needed to be an effective team leader under pressured deadlines and getting help from the members of my team.
I have been often consulted in every part of the project. Firstly the Gantt chart would help in showing the needed steps to be taken. It would also depict the deadlines in order to deliver the entire project on time. I have also expressed my concerns based on providing the report on a structured format.
There are two things about which I have been informed. These includes the initiation of project documentation. I have also played part during the brief of the project. The initiation of the project documentation would be mostly based on the project brief. The second thing is that I have been informed about the impacts of social media and the ways in which the technology has been helpful for spreading the details of the project.
The project on sensing city faced some risks that have led to the non-completion and delay in the project.
The biggest risk was based on the completion of the task by any of the team member in order to overcome the risk. Hence, maximum people were involved with a single task such that others would be able to help if any of the members would face difficulty.
The second risk was based on working with other team members for the first time. This would compiling of the members and thus arranging them to work together.
Each of the team members respected each other and have thus completed the tasks within the proper time. As per my knowledge, each of the members were proactive all through the time.
Conclusion
The sensing city project was delivered to the client within the proper deadline successfully. We hope for a proper feedback. We have followed the appropriate guidelines by managing the accountability and taking responsibility to complete the project on time, manage the team and sharing experiences with people from various cultural background. This project has led me to exposure of sensing city and the ways in which IoT could be improved in order to make the world better.
Based on the BCA Code of Conduct, I can say that we have acted fairly in dealing with the requirements of the client. We have handled with the personal information of clients in a safe manner. We have also complied with legal requirements during the progress of the project. Various complaints of clients have been addressed properly by giving them the highest priority. I have taken account of any kind of statement based on implementation of good practices issued within the BCA. We have also cooperated with our client and have thus provided them with their required deliverables within the proper time.
