Title of the research project is found out the “Significance of CSR practices for keeping up positive relations with Australian communities” in context of retail industries”.
The research is taken in consideration because most of the organizations are completing the responsibilities for perspective societies. CSR activities of organizations support the business functioning significantly. At the same time, it also recognizes the business in market effectively and creates value of organization In addition to this, it creates positive impact on the communities. It has become a concurrent issue in the market so it is required to analyze in a retail segment.
The main aim of this research proposal is to find out for achieving the desired outcomes. The objectives for this study are as follows:
Corporate social responsibility has become an important aspect of the business in today’s environment. CSR is necessary for the companies to main the relation with various stakeholders such investors, employees, consumers and communities. Corporate social responsibility can be defined as an activity to benefiting the society directly or indirectly. Schwartz defined that CSR is an obligation on the companies to take the corporate initiative for creating positive environment among the societies (Dudovskiy, 2013). At the same time, CSR is emerged as the business strategy to influence the broad market people and create positive impact of policy (Smith, 2011). Serveas and Tamayo described that CSR practice the different elements are evaluated such as economical, environmental, legal and social.
Along with this, the retail business segment is very wide to use the CSR activities to attract the customers and maintain the positive relation with perspective communities. In retail sector business the environment issue is the main concern for the companies to reduce the carbon emissions and power generation and less use of air conditioning. The major Australian retail business organizations are Woolworths Ltd, Wesfarmers Ltd, Westfield, Aldi and McDonalds. Woolworths is committed to implementing more than 20 corporate responsibilities for the sustainable development of society (Woolworthsgroup, 2017). Further, the Wesfarmers is also contributing in the practices of CSR to making the living of society valuable through greening the environment, reduction in green house gas and supporting the society for development (Wesfarmers, 2016). Carroll explained that effective CSR policies have positive impact on the societies and customer to take the services because organizations are also returning back to the communities.
Along with this, Lam and Lim analyzed that the retail companies are facing lot many challenges regarding to implementing the CSR policies, these challenges are containing the resource like finance, people and skills to implement effectively (Yuen, 2017). On the other hand, many organizations have not any willingness to pay for the societal development so it can also affect the other business organizations. Further, it is also stated that CSR policy of the company has multiple benefit for the company and society both. The major benefit of strategic CSR are as increase the financial performance, enhancing brand recognition, retaining the loyal customers and sustainable operation of business in perspective market.
Apart from this, implementing the CSR practices is useful for the company to sustain in the market for long time, so it is recommended to the retail companies that they should contribute in the society and environment development which is an integral part of the business process. CSR is aligned with the value enhancement of companies so the organization should implement the CSR agenda in its operation for being a responsible industry among the market (Musgravegroup, 2016). Further, the company can adopt the green retail strategy to implement around the Australia.
Research design includes different type of designs such as experimental research design, exploratory research design, and descriptive research design. In this research study, descriptive and exploratory research design will be used. It is because descriptive design will help in getting the depth information about the role of CSR policies in maintaining positive relation with Australian communities (Zikmund et al, 2013). Along with this, exploratory design will help in finding new facts and insight about CSR that how it helps retail industry in maintaining good relation with communities.
In this research study, previous researches will be studied about the research topic. Along with this, research study will help in measuring the role of CSR policies in retail industry to maintain positive relation with Australian communities. Furthermore, the opinions of Australian Communities people will be collected through selecting the people randomly and the sample size will be 250 people from the different Australian communities (Bryman and Bell, 2015).
Data collection is the procedure of collecting the data from the selected people or participants. In this research, the primary data will be collected from the Australian community’s people by the survey to fulfill the research objectives. The questionnaire will be developed to get the information from the participants about the role of CSR practices in maintaining positive relation with people (Groves et al, 2011). The questionnaire will also be distributed among the participants and after the answering the surveyor questions the questionnaire will be collected.
In research study, the data will be collected from the authentic participants and it is assured that the collected data will be actual, not copied from any source. The source of data collection also will be included in research in depth. Along with this, during the research study the guidelines of the research will be followed in ethical manner (Marshall and Rossman, 2014). In addition to this, the main aim of research is not to collect the personal information of participants and it is assured that personal information of participants will not be shared with third party.
In this research study, both primary and secondary data is collected from the participants and other sources. There are different primary data collection methods such as Survey, Interview, Focus group, and Observation. In this research, primary data will be collected by the help of questionnaire method in survey that will include close ended questions (Fowler Jr, 2013). These questions will help in collecting the opinion of participants about the CSR practices. Further, the secondary data will be collected from the articles, books, and journals.
Data analysis is a process that helps in analysis of data. It includes the different tools and techniques such as SPSS, MS Excel, Chart, Graphs, and Tables. In this research study, the analysis of data will be done by the help of MS Excel, Graphs, Tables, and Charts (Healey, 2014). It is because these selected tools help in presenting the data easily and presented data can be understand easily.
This research study will helps the Australian retail sector companies in identifying the role of CSR policies in maintaining relation with Australian community’s people. Along with this, it will help to me in completing my degree course. Further, it will help the researchers in implementing the further research study related to CSR practices. In future it will also support in getting and collecting the secondary data for the study.
The present research study has some limitations that limit the reliability of research findings. For example, in this research study, the sample size is only two hundred fifty people for survey that is not efficient to analyze the views of Australian community’s people in relation to CSR strategy of retail industry. Apart from this, the research is conducted for only retail industry. So, facts and findings cannot be implemented by the different industries. At the same time, due to shortage of budget and time, research can affect the quality and presentation of research outcomes.
